I would love to see a one planet challenge! As far as I know, it was not possible to beat DSP on one planet before (due to titanium), but this changed with the dark fog. Just imagine the crushing of your enemies after you finally "escape" from the planet, with much more research than normal, completely wiping the dark fog and so on.

Wonder if there would be enough copper for that.

I've done it, at least on infinite resources. You don't even need to build a Dyson Sphere or Swarm if you don't mind farming for long enough! I bet TDA could pull it off on lower resource scarcity. But would love to see it as well! :D

One of the things you can do to make early game repairs easier is to have a sorter pulling directly from the battlefield analysis station into an assembler making replacement turrets with at least one slot filtered slot filtered for each ingredient and crafted turrets.

I think a one planet playthrough would be a lot of fun. I wonder though, would a "pretty hard but less than max" setup make for better viewing?

I think showcasing the drops and various turrets would be interesting. How different are the standard and supersonic missiles? Why have two splitters per item? Can’t you assign storage spaces to an item type and stack it on a single splitter? One you make energy storage, would all energy turrets be feasible? Fun series. I would not have thought of a single planet challenge.

The other advantage of setting up your defenses further away is it creates a separation between the air and ground units so that: A. Your turrets take less burst damage since they only take the air unit damage first, then the slower ground units after. B. Your turrets focus on the faster air units first, then the slower ground units after. For the Loot Filter, I would use the Larger Boxes and use multiple filtered Sorters and program each box with their own filters as well. I would use 3-6 filters per box depending on the volume of the particular loot or which loot is used to send to Smelters/Factories/Chemical Plants. Use one direction for all the incoming unsorted loot, like North to South, and use the other direction, like East to West for outgoing loot to feed Manufacturing buildings.

One Planet challenge would be interesting, but I feel that would be a major grind. Also interesting in how planet expansion and Hive take downs would be. I've seen how some others are approaching it but would be curious on your take of that.

@aimozg

This game, I believe, is 1200% (max DF + x1 resources). 3000% (max DF + x0.1 resources) is even more challenging as you can't turtle indefinitely - you'll run out of copper.

Doesn't the enemy drop copper plates and ores? If you were using lasers primarily maybe you could sustain it.@@aimozg
@aimozg
@aimozg 7 месяцев назад
@@binaryalgorithm I'm not sure. You see, lasers are late red science (same research as planetary shield with particle container as prerequisite) and I think you might burn through planetary copper reserves before you get to them. And the drop rates are partially affected by resource factor: x0.1 resource is x0.3 drops IIRC.

Drop rate is also affected by planet type, for example, since starting planet lacks titanium the drop rate of titanium is nerfed.

Different scenarios can be started with the slide bars at start up. For instance I thought it was ridiculous that they default setting for the fog is 100% of space, and I presume they start with a base on every planet. But to level the playing I slide it to 1% of space since the are starting out somewhere. The numbers on this I estimate is 64x3x0.01=1.92 planets they start on similar to you. And set their progress bar to 300% AI have much better control so 300 might be to high

I left the aggression at the default. Unfortunately my machine immediatly slow down to 5fps so too much

You must integrate the manufacturing into the sorter mall so it builds instead of using it to pick manually.

The one-planet challenge sounds like a bit of fun. That might actually entice me to play with a difficult Dark Fog setting. At least once. Sushi belts look like a pain to deal with, given the amount of resources. I’m visualizing three separate sushi belts going past each battle analysis building, which outputs items on each - for the overall extraction bandwidth. Also some ugly-looking filtered belt-to-belt sorter shenanigans to skim off certain items before running the remainder through a box-of-shame sorter.
@Yardiff
@Yardiff 7 месяцев назад
Alternatively, run the three belts through filtered splitters, with filtered boxes on top - take the filtered output as input to a mall.

Your ammo replicators are starved, you don't need that many for the amount of copper that you are supplying them. each one of them need like 4 copper per second, If you use 3 sorters for each assembler, you can fully consume the 6/s belt with only 2 of them, reducing the footprint and power consumption

if you can survive the onslaught of the constant attacks, you can just creep up on them and be out of range of the buildings but in range of the patrols and eventually you'll just drain them of matter and they will only send what they can mine to produce units. and at that point you wont need such a large defense force. and then go around destroying the rest of the bases and instead of capping them with geothermal plants or fill them up with dirt, just put a signal tower to have missiles destroy the base as it gets created, they wont sent a new relay out until their cap gets increased. this way you dont have to worry about strays coming from other angles and you dont have to worry about other bases as well. as for how to destroy the other bases with signal towers, just add a row of turrets behind, just make sure you have a supply of ammo with you, or wait till you have laser turrets and use them instead. this way when you provoke them, the turrets can protect the signal tower while the artillery rains down on them.
@starburst98
@starburst98 7 месяцев назад
When a relay runs out of matter to make bases it leaves to the hive to refill and then makes a new base.

I'd both enjoy watching a successful one planet playthrough and as a baseline for future speed runs of the same. However, I don't think it should be limited to one planet alone, instead as a "mining fog farms only, excepting the first planet" play through. This way you can feel free to build ILS tech, land on all the other worlds to build farms, logistics, or anything else excepting mining. This may speed up the drop rate collection( more farms) and give you the surface area needed for demonstrating the ability to build the dyson sphere as a success condition. The only other condition would be to clear all the hives( and by extension their relay's) from the local system. I know that bases can exist after the hives and relays are cleared, but I am unsure if they will still spawn ad infinitum or up to some limit or timeframe. If the former then clearing the hives should be a win condition, if the latter then maybe it should not be a win condition until your dyson sphere is complete. Either way I do look forward to seeing your take on this challenge. Additionally I have a thought, I believe the entire fog loot table has 57 items, 5 of which are new to DSP and unique to the fog... the dark fox matrix, I think, is used a paint in proliferators. Your splitter system is taking an input, to a filtered output and the rest sent through to the next splitter. I've seen many used this method, but it seems more efficient to run 2 filtered outputs off each splitter instead. In addition, if you split the output of the last into the input of the first with the BAB belt you can recycle/ring the inventory( as you were doing with the bullets for the turrets). An item ring system could allow you to input multiple BAB loot belts into as many locations within the loop as wanted or needed by running into a splitter without the 2nd filtered output, thus using it as an input instead. A few unfiltered depots on the 2 input lines to buffer and you could blueprint a fog farm filter around a latitude line and take BAB belts from a planet farming 20+ bases at a time outputting the haul to the rest of the system( or build on this one, setting shields up in areas you don't want new bases).
@Yardiff
@Yardiff 7 месяцев назад
I hadn’t realized that it was possible to have two filtered outputs on a splitter. Nice one. :) Edit: Actually it's not possible to have two filtered outputs off the same splitter. Darn.

Ok so, a slight modification of your 1 planet challenge. Instead what about doing a Dark Fog only challenge, this would mean not allowed to do any hand mining or hand crafting. But instead gathering your first few iron plates and copper plates from the dark fog drops. Since you can get all the way to white science with dark fog drops. It would be interesting to see automation and base building powered and fueled by the dark fog. Maybe calling this the WAR Campain

The filtering is nice, but on higher difficulties the slow belt is not enough. On difficulty 10 (maxed out everything) I got 3 planetary bases and 3 hives, with the 4th planetary base landing in the first 15 minutes of the game. I just researched some red tech (mainly damage, cause I need it) and the attacks are constant. I am getting so much crap, the green belt is barely enough. I am burning wood, shards and plant material in 3 different power plants just to keep the belts flowing. And soon be adding combustibles too.
@TheDutchActuary
@TheDutchActuary 7 месяцев назад
Yep you end up needing at least 1 MK3 belt / 2 bases, potentially even just a 1:1 ratio to avoid bottlenecks.

I would love to see a proper take on a One World challenge. I've done it on infinite resources, but I bet you could pull it off on some harder setting ;). Heck, you can complete the game not only without visiting another planet but also without building one Dyson Sphere cell or one Dyson Swarm sail! You just need to farm the high level enemies enough... If you'd like to see how my attempt looked, it's on my gaming channel - Gaius Caelus.

Well, the DFF (Dark Fog Farming) "nerf" didn't happen!? I'd also like a compare and contrast between Hard mode and regular ppl mode that enjoy less of a challenge, like myself learning the game coming back from 2 years ago (!). What's applicable to reg gameplay and what's not? Either way it was interesting to watch.
@starburst98
@starburst98 7 месяцев назад
The nerf is based on resource quantity. If you lower the resources to scarce the fog drops 0.3x items, so you can't replace mining with fog farming.

@@starburst98 Lucky or unlucky for me, normal is good enough atm, I don't like how I'm laying out my bases and I've only gotten to the first spraying fluid atm, which didn't exist 2 years ago. I'm getting better, but have restarted 3x already trying to reinforce what I learned in the prior iterations. Then, yesterday, one of the ytuber guys said directly the drops were nerfed, and the DSP discord guys said the same. I can't tell because I such a noob atm.

How do all these youtubers only get like 2 or 3 enemy bases, and i get 5 at every seed, making it nearly impossible. Nice job though
@TheDutchActuary
@TheDutchActuary 7 месяцев назад
I'm a bit surprised that the variability is so high on exactly the same settings. I'm guessing it's something about the seed that prevents (or causes) hives spawning, and potentially the number of bases is directly related to the number of hives.

i think you're laughing too soon, the materials you get from farming is only enough to build a mall, you'll hit a bottle neck with research very soon, if you want a full belt of white cubes you still need to scale up the production of all those basic components, but i'd watch that regardless
@MichaelDomer
@MichaelDomer 7 месяцев назад
Don't watch it.... figure it our yourself. All I cared about is the title "Farming the Dark Fog without even leaving your planet" (never watched the video), it's then up to me to figure out how to do that. You're not going to boost your creativity long term by copying others, plus copying others doesn't give you any satisfaction, and you get bored quickly.
