Sam Blankenship With your field of study being concentrated on US Presidents shouldn't you already know all of this, at least a majority of it? Why would this video make you feel further educated on this subject matter..? I don't see how one feels educated watching something they've already learned/knew prior to this video. Maybe you should have said that feel you're feeling refreshed on this subject. That's a dumb ass field to be putting the majority of your time into, what job do you plan on getting with you majoring in the history of US Presidents lmao.
Very underrated film. Of course it's very silly and bizarre, but still a fun watch. Lincoln killing vampires was less of a stretch than lincoln's wife being hot. Seriously, look her up, she looked the spitting image of john goodman, but in the film she was hot
The thing with how much Polk treasured his wife was really sweet. No fancy words, just a final "I love you" to the person most important to him. Not to mention the fact that he valued her (a woman's) opinion in politics is pretty impressive considering the time.
My thoughts exactly. And it was comforting that, even though it wasn’t mentioned they considered their wives opinions as much, a number of presidents did say goodbye to their wives with their last words
One fun fact that was missed about Garfield - the first prototype for a metal detector was invented to find the bullet! And a precursor to air conditioning was used to keep him comfortable.
olluman123 i thought that was hilariouse, spoke of about 5 seconds and the topic was his pants, poor guy. Shouldve bought 500 pairs of pants and become a legend.

Oh my gosh yes also if they would hint of things that people do in that state typically because I want to visit every 50 state and do something that that state is known for
Alabama: Alabama is mostly known for the segregationist governor George Wallace's "segregation forever" policy, but did you know it's also known for sibling marriage?

Cadwaladr the first sitting president to be photographed was William Henry Harrison in 1841. John Quincy Adams was only photographed after he was president in 1843. Therefore Harrison was the first president ever to be photographed.
The next time you're tempted to use the word "literally" try using the same sentence but without that word. I'll bet that 99.9% the time the omission won't make even the tiniest fucking difference to the meaning of the sentence.
Opus Buddly or, you know, use it to emphasize an extreme situation that is out of the norm. Like, say, being shot and continuing a speech, instead of stopping the speech because of a minor cold

What I don't get is how Theodore Roosevelt didn't crush FDR's skull with his bare hands for how he treated Eleanor. Teddy: You may be my cousin, but your actions are unmanly! *crunch*
@Robert Ortiz-Wilson She couldn't bear to have a rather common need of men so he looked for sex elsewhere. He obviously loved her and was loyal to the spirit of their union. FDR was a Union kind of guy. It was Eleanor who set an unreasonable boundary and then left him for not meeting it.
Him moralizing his brother for his adultery ended rather poorly. If you're interested in the family drama of the Roosevelt family, I would suggest "War of the Roosevelts" as something to read
Livy Lu ... I know you posted a month ago, but I just watched this. I had the exact same thought when they were talking about people still being alive! “I’m not dead yet!” “Yes you are!” “No I’m not, I’m feeling much better”. I love Monty Python. It was strangely more historically accurate than many of the serious movies of that genre of the time. That was the era of the clean clothes, etc. I especially love the lines “How can you tell he’s King?” And the other peasant replies “Well, he’s the only one without shit on him!”
“I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world - no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men.“ -Woodrow Wilson. He took their money to get elected and sold out the American people. The creation of the FRB is the most devastating event in the history of the United States of America. Shocked that it was neither mentioned in the video nor commented upon.
@@geraldstevens7919 Obama isn't even close to the record. Fake news manufactured by Trump. If ur talking basketball , maybe. Trump has already played every Saturday & Sunday since being in office .
DubiousN00B A lot of the First Ladies did a lot of work for the general public, one of the most famous being Eleanor Roosevelt, Michelle Obama, etc; and I think you should show more respect to them
It was unknown at the time of his birth whether Chester A. Arthur had been born in Northern Vermont, or in Canada. Apparently, his birthplace was so close to Canada many people accused him of being Canadian. His wife also died shortly before he was chosen as Vice-President. He also hid the fact that he was ill with Bright's Disease his last year in office. He died soon after Grover Cleveland took office.
Politicians, as a whole, have to social creatures... interacting with people all day, every day, is sort of their job description. But to be a president, you have to be the sort of person who will throw themselves in front of an entire stadium full of sports fans - shouting and dancing and chanting... until that entire stadium loves to watch what you do. A popular and successful cheerleader is the BEST choice of person to run for president. People say that actors have a "special gift" of convincing the people watching that what they do is "real", rather than being filmed on a stage at a studio. Top-level politicians absolutely have to learn a similar skill, to stand in front of a large crowd of people and use words, passion, antics, etc., to convince that large group of people to like who they are. THAT is how you become president. Not through any knowledge, or skill, regarding the actual job you have to eventually do. You get elected by making people LIKE you. I've seen countless interviews of people who disagreed with Bill Clinton politically, and they all say to the camera/interviewer that (in personal conversations) Bill could make you really LIKE him, as an individual, even if you severely disagreed with him on some political topic.
Man, those were the days I loved watching History Channel... Then all that bs with Ice Road Truckers and Ancient Aliens started. RIP only decent history source on TV.
Chester A Arthur, a president so boring the only interesting fact you could list was that he owned a lot of pants and changed his pants often. ROFLMAO I'm dying.
Fun fact: Although Calvin Coolidge was the first President to throw out a World Series pitch, the first president to do so on Opening Day was William Taft, who had a special seat made in the Washington Senators home park (additional fun fact: the person to receive the first pitch was Walter Johnson)
These sort of videos are right up my alley. I'm a huge history nerd. I memorized all the Presidents and their terms when I was in fifth grade. I was obsessed with a President's book my Dad bought me.
Certainly the longest video you guys have made. I would imagine that the research and scripting for it took quite a lot longer than the filming. Entertaining and informative, as always. Thank you for posting this. ;)
BioCapsule ... So true so true. But aside from the presidency, Bernie Sanders has recently denied to endorse his son who is running for Senate not because his son has not good qualities but because of dynasticy. He thinks his son should win the election on his own accord and not from Bernie Sanders recent Fame. Now that is honesty similar to that which Truman was also displaying towards the honesty and respect he had of public service
I am not a fan of Truman as a president (I wish Henry Wallace was still the VP when FDR died), and I completely disagree with his decision to drop the atomic bombs, but he was an honest man and his slogan of "The buck stops here" where he would take responsibility not just for his actions, but the actions of an entire nation, makes me respect him. If I cant get a president that I agree with politicly at least give me one I can respect.
Also Edith Wilson was arguably the acting first female president. She served while Wilson was recovering from a stroke, and it was under her watch that women's suffrage was passed.
You are absolutely right about Edith Wilson, she had an incredible amount of power while he was incapacitated for the final months of his presidency. That would never happen today. But the suffrage vote would have likely passed anyway.
Bravo! This was just amazing! It was a great idea for you guys to alternate, it kept the pace going, and made it more interesting. The energy was sustained all the way to the end, and you found a lot of interesting facts that not everyone knows. I really enjoyed this! :)
Not sure if this has been tackled in the year since this video’s release, but I’d love to see a similar list for British Prime Ministers. Here in the states, we aren’t taught much of anything about foreign leaders in school, save for any of the ones we’ve fought wars against. As such, it would be very interesting to learn more about the PMs of UK history in some general detail and what kind of impact or influence they may have had. Thanks so much for the great content!
"I could never lend myself to any transaction, however respectable, that would commercialize on the prestige and the dignity of the office of the Presidency." -Lessons from Truman that we could use right now.................

Agreed, we get some education about the U.S., but nothing that really details all the presidents. Like, obviously our own Canadian history and leadership gets prioritized, which is totally logical and fair, but it is nice to learn about other countries, especially fun facts like this! It actually makes me miss Heritage Minutes XD Because they were regularly repeated, you really got the info memorized. It's like a short documentary clip from a RU-vid video, but as a commercial, for those reading this and wondering what Heritage Minutes were, lol! Considering how many presidents there were for the U.S., I think that same format would be good to help teach the public as it is a very effective yet super passive learning format. : )
Fun fact, Sarah Polk attended Salem Academy, the fourth oldest private school in the us. It is an all girls school. She is my Salem sister ( everyone who attends is considered a sister)
'Saved by the bell' literally comes from burying people prematurely. A line from a bell above ground was led down into the coffin, in case the poor person woke up. People were hired to be at the cemeteries to listen out for the bells tinkling!!
The JKF "Ich bin ein Berliner" quote does mean "I am a jelly donut." A German would say "Ich bin Berliner" because a person from Berlin and a Jelly donut are called the same thing, but when Germans describe themselves, the article "ein" is considered unnecessary. About the closest mistake one could do in English would be to say something like "I am from Big Apple" or "I am from a Big Apple" instead of saying "I am from the Big Apple." Every native speaker easily knows that the person is talking about New York, not a literal big apple, but they also do not say that statement that way. So, was JFK "wrong?" Yes, but not enough to confuse anyone.
See our full article on the subject here for our full explanation www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2012/04/john-f-kennedys-statement-ich-bin-ein-berliner-was-not-interpreted-as-i-am-a-jelly-filled-doughnut/
@106516818349294501849 Citing your own article, an article without any citations, by the way, doesn't really support your point any more than before. However, I found this article that supports "ich bin ein Berliner" is the correct wording for Kennedy's speech. www.jstor.org/stable/30153239?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents That said, it seems more likely that JFK got lucky with this than that he had such a marvelous grasp on the language that he would know the "ein" made the difference between a metaphorical comparison and a declarative statement. He himself admitted that his German was bad. The only way to know the difference between him getting lucky here and him knowing his German grammar would be if we saw him say either "ich bin Amerikaner" or "ich bin ein Amerikaner," since the second would clearly be wrong.
+88michaelandersen I feel like your evaluation of the reasons Mr. Kennedy's speech including the right diction leaves out another, in my opinion vastly more likely, explanation: The President usually has a pretty significant staff of language coaches, speech writers, and other supports for his responsibility as diplomat-in-chief. It's a lot easier to appear to understand the intricacies of the German language if you have an employee whose job is to do exactly that.
it was so interesting that i thought it was short didnt realize that it was almost an hour ...but i guess we have had that many presidents ...keep up the good work ...all your vdos are interesting

Mine is that William Howard Taft was so large that when he stepped in the tub to take a bath, it instantly overflowed and flooded the floor. Then it soaked through to the next floor down where a banker's conference was being held, a conference he was expected to be at. He did that on purpose.

Yeah, feel bad that he lost his son while President-elect, but scorn him at the same time for his lack of leadership and inaction as the nation went down the shitter and became more and more divided during his presidency.
Very possibly. There's some interesting stuff there, particularly contrasting his previous attempt at a presidential run and how it contrasted with a lot of the things he said in his current run. Although, that might just be a separate video and a follow up president fact one might be better served to wait until his time as president is done.
+Reventon_ I'm from Canada and found this video extremely interesting more so than a lot of americans I know that could care less about history even if it is about their own country.
I want to begin by saying this was a high quality and all around entertaining video. It is loaded with interesting facts some of which are important to know as they are part of our history here in America, and some that will make you an asset to your next trivia team if nothing else. Thank you for all of the time and effort you have put into this video man, I bet it isn't easy to keep the attention of most people nowadays, including myself. Failed to mention he adopted. Married Frenchman Lafayette . Lafayette fought in the Battle Brandywine and was shot and wounded September 11 1777 . It was Lafayette who had stern words for George when he permitted the practice of slavery . Even so they remained life long friends .
