the art in this show is terrible, once again. Maybe hire an illustrator that knows the clothing of the period you're working on, because this doesn't look accurate at all.

I find the series very interesting but the art depiction put me off. It came across very frumpy and didn’t translate the beauty of the garments well

They actually do show her shoes in her second outfit. When she sings reflection, she jumps onto the bridge and we can see her shoes.

You need to spend some more money on an artist. The person who does these has probably used a lot of time making them, but if the clothes (which is what is focused on) isn't represented in a visible nice way, it ruins the picture. With historical clothes the viewers feel way more excited seeing the clothes drawn prettily and recognizable (and in this case, closer to the disney art style maybe) and not this that looks too off and a bit dirty. As I've mentioned in another video of yours, I will gladly do your drawings. That, or at least spend a bit more on a professional artist.

I like how Disney actually took the time to make Mulan's cloths culturally appropriate for the time era and only making a few slight modern changes to it. I always appreciate it when someone actually takes the time to do their research and showcase true cultural diversity.

Mulan is wealthy, look at her house, anchestral pavillion and clothing. She's not a farmer.

OH MY GOD I usually ignore the level of art skill in these videos but this time it's insulting my eyes!!! also the speaker sounds less enthusiastic than usual.. almost like they really don't wanna do this but has to edit: my comment was NOT meant against the artist personally.. as an artist myself I know the struggle with lacking skills and knowledge however I always cheered for them for being able to grow while working on the videos but this time I am disappointed! even if it was inspired by the ballad the visuals were poorly executed, it feels half assly done in comparison to the other videos and in combination with the lackluster speech of the moderator it felt lowkey like they didn't care about Mulan because they it's a Chinese lore

It was said in the audio commentary that some of the clothing styles were inspired by the Tang Dynasty fashion. That may be why the collar is a bit more open.

Also really weird how you made all those comments about the area she lived in, but made no references to it when referring to the clothes? I imagine illustrations of people outside of court would have been rare, so referencing some of those images don't really convince me.

Did you consider the fact mulan grandmother gave her the jade beads which means it's possible one of her ancestors could have passed it down to her grandmother who we saw gave to mulan.

A better artist for the renders would have really helped the video but this was an interesting watch regardless!

Oh God. This video, the references are a mess and all over the place. While you are trying to make a 'historical accuracy check' video, don't reference Qing dynasty (1644-1911 AD) pictures and Han dynasty (221-206 BC) pictures , when you have clearly said yourself that the story of Mulan happens in Northern dynasty (420-589 AD). How is that historically accurate at all?

My 2cents- In India there is a word similar to Shang Gee - Janggia means under pants. That did sound similar to me, may have some connection or not. 2. The instructor said in video Silk worms - source of all natural silk- which is incorrect as in India itself we have many other variety of natural silks, thus more in world am sure. Thank you

As someone spends her time to study ancient chinese clothing and han fu especially in Six Dynasties period, using qing dynasty reference sound so wrong to me, and the terminology is very modern not much historical accurate(and the undergarment doesnt sound that right), 3:25 mentioned the visible chest would be inaccurate actually are not always, it might be inaccurate for the earlier period but possible to happen in Mulan period (and the cartoon drawing style tend to draw the under layer a bit lower)

While her family did farm, with the armor her father had it suggest he held a higher ranking in the Chinese army. So yes, possibly she could have worn jade if it was passed down generational wise.

When I first watched Mulan, I was pretty surprised at how somewhat modern some of the outfits she was wearing were. Example, the very first outfit we see her wearing when we were introduced to her (cuz I assumed those were probably her pj’s), the blue shirt and white skirt she had on after she got her hair done, and the beige outfit she wore when she was waking up to do her war training

I love how Disney was very accurate here. Little elaborate details are missing which is understandable as it would've been difficult to animate and would've taken more time. Good job to them!

Putting aside the terrible drawing…..Mulan’s family were pretty well off going by their residence alone. Not to mention her father was a literal retired war hero that people knew and respected. Not to mention the beads are a family heirloom just like the comb was.

Mulan take place during the northern wei dynasty in the 400s because in Mulan 2 there is an Attila reference( so Mulan must take place during or after Attila's life) and Mulan's grandma has the calendar with the Fire ox year

I wish they would do one of these for Spirited Away. I love the costumes in that movie
