It has been for years, as developers would often thank him for critiques and insist that they were well aware of the respective game's situation. It's just that often enough the publishers wouldn't listen, big surprise there.

Well now you've acknowledged it, that battery is definitely going to need replacing within the next week or so.

This is why I don't take reviewer takes seriously when I decide what to buy. Friend recs and customer reviews are much more valuable.

"Might" nothin', that's one of the problems inherent in being a critic. It doesn't just apply to games, either; any kind of art critic is going to have a very, VERY different perspective from a casual consumer. Its one of the reasons why its probably not the greatest idea to rely on critic reviews exclusively to inform your purchase; you gotta mix in user reviews, as well. Take movies: the average dude isn't going to be paying attention to things like cinematography (unless its REALLY bad) when watching a movie. Your usual guy is going to be paying attention to the characters, the action, and the story. A professional critic, though, is going to have seen those same types of characters and stories many, many, MANY times over in a very short span of time. Thus, they're gonna be looking at camera work, sound design, and colour palette. Its one of the reasons you can watch a movie that's critically acclaimed...and walk away thinking they must be idiots because what you saw was a boring pile of pretentious nonsense that stopped just shy of puttin' ya to sleep.

Makes sense, considering how much he seemed to love Windfarer. And in my 25 years of living, i've never come across a game like that before or since

It may also be something I've been complaining about to my friends for the last 5 years. EVERY game is the same now. Watchdogs legion is mechanically identical to spiderman is the same as Zelda is the same as horizon zero dawn is the same as assassins creed is the same as... all games are becoming this Grey mush of being exactly the same kind of sandbox with a mild crafting system, mild stealth and or climbing abilities with RPG elements and a weapon wheel and a billion identical sidequests filling up your menus. It's just, really fucking depressing. I stopped playing major games for tha reason. But similar things are happening to indie games too. So I' not sure where I'm going to go in 5 years

Just to be clear, I’m not complaining. I use reviews to gauge how I might like game, from reviewers I agree and don’t agree with. I just try to keep this in mind.

I read that in the cadence of "grasslands, desert, ocean, jungle". I've been watching ZP episodes on shuffle far too long.

I dunno, he ripped into the game a few times, but true to character the game always sewed up the holes in its design and turned into a patchwork design of character and pizzazz. The bottom might have fallen off the game's trousers at the end, like Yahtzee said, but damn if the game didn't make it work anyway.

The rarest of Yahtzee thumbs up that even ends with a positive note. Must've completely made your day. Gonna have to check out your game now.

Honestly though, yeah. Not that you should do that exact thing for every person you date, but "figure out a consistent way to cheer up your S.O. when they're having a bad time" is a pretty solid piece of advice

You should try his books, they're several hour long versions of these videos + some plot. For the audiobooks he does the reading himself too.

Yeah he's really losing his curmudgeonly charm in his old age, ironically enough. Most people do it the other way around. But the transition from bachelor to spouse is always a bit of a roller coaster, we're just seeing the aftereffects.

Watch Civvie-11, he reviews a lot of boomer shooters, old and new - good and terrible. Other games that are very well made boomer shooters are DUSK, Ion Fury, Amid Evil, and Selaco.

Yahtzee said is one of his top/bottom/bland 10 videos that bland is the opposite of both good and bad.

@@VakarisJ he also said that good and bad are roughly equally interesting to review, it's the bland ones that feel like a chore.

Dev here! I'm glad you enjoyed the movement mechanics. They seem to click for some and suck for others.. We probably should have taught the proper usage better in-game so more people could get the hang of them!

@@Patsui wow thx for lightning quick reaction to feedback! In my mind I was mostly comparing FPS to Doom Eternal because they hit same gameplay bits - huge reward for correct weapons usage and a lot of platforming attached. And as far as I see people tend to have same criticism, because people aren't used to platforming in general in these games, while they are perfectly fine and functional. Unfortuanetly I feel it's unavoidable moment when something just doesn't mix with people if they really like one genre and not really into other elements.

@@Patsui Yeah, tutorials always get people. He does primarially MMO stuff, But Josh Strife Hayes has some very good arguments for how to tutor people on new mechanics

@@armorhide406 subnautica (the first, not bz). While it had its flaws, it had a certain charm that made the magic that captivated you and made you look back on the whole experience think "man, that was fun"

close. It isn't just the finishing them off part - it's ALL damage. If you stop whaling on them for any length of time, every enemy will regenerate. So if you whittled down 1/4 of a baddy's health but couldn't smack them with a secondary, that damage will recover. Dodgy targeting and movement means fighting more than one enemy at a time gets squirrely and frustrating, and can become protracted if you can't get a secondary hit off every so often. I love the aesthetics of the game, but it genuinely felt terrible to play, especially since the 'secondary' weapon feels like a special attack but has no fluidity with your primary weapon.
