hey mark, i’ve been drag racing with rc cars for 3 years or so now, a couple of quick tips for you to get the car a bit quicker: id go down to the 50t spur or smaller if you can find one to fit as well as a bigger pinion. also the car isnt transferring weight and is spinning when you launch so id raise the wheelie bar some and put some softer springs on if you can. lastly id turn the tsm off if you’re comfortable with that, it limits your throttle as well as steering it for you which will slow the car down. with that system the car you wont be hitting sub 2’s on the gnss (which is even faster than that on a timing system) but it should get a good bit quicker! good luck with future projects and keep making great vids sir!
Nice to see AWD. Here in AZ we tried putting together a Pro4 AWD class but couldn’t get enough interest. There really only ended up being a handful of us. Same class rules as the 2wd class with the exception of the 3s option. Fastest I was able to run on rubber tires and no prep was 2.1 with most of my consistency at 2.2-2.3. Breaking sub 2’s would be cool to see but short of running foam tires with prep, it would be a tough time to beat. Good video though!
Truck looks good, can hear it spinning for the first how ever many feet, then it hooks up, got my thumb steers in the mail they are sweet, love the colors...
Mark, that looks KILLER dude!! Love the stance, she looks mean and looking to kick some ass. I've been checking out your channel from time to time, and you've got some pretty solid videos bruh. Keep on rocking it in Texas my man!!!!👍💯💯☝
Some cars removing the front springs or going super stiff on Front Springs help a lot for straight line dragging. Just a tip I learned from other draggers.
Very cool, definitely different!!! I would not thought of a 4x4 truck drag car. Maybe they will make a class for it. Just ordered my Traxxas 4x4 chassis for my next build AND a Jamie Powell shirt!!! I'll post the pictures on the MSM Drivers Meeting when they come in! 🔥🏁🤘
@@SoulciaLight I appreciate you and Mark! You guys have shown me a world of joy. I feel like a kid again at the races. Every time I work on my truck or watch my son and his drift car, it reminds me of my dad and I. We lost him two years ago, but I feel him every time I enjoy this wonderful hobby. I like spreading the love of it as much as I can. So again, I appreciate you guys and all you do! 🔥🤘
Great video I am also making a Traxxas slash 4x4 drag car except I ran a 2.91 at 43 mph with a 13 tooth pinion and 58 spur gear all completely stock I just added some weight I'll be posting a video on that on my channel shortly.
Great videos! Check your to see if the slipper is loose with 4wd & 4 slicks with suace makes for a bunch of traction. You just might have to lock it up.
Truck looks awesome Mark. Love your videos. I think the wheelie bar touching the ground might be steering the truck a little. Kinda like a boat rudder steers a boat. That might be why you're getting the wiggle. Looks amazing though. Nice build buddy👍
Mark, I have a Tekno SCT410 with Slicks all around, that I race with my neighbors, it has an SMC 1900 KV motor with a 4S Battery, It fly's down the street!
Another reason for the turning Mark might also be that the balance of the vehicle is off center. Is the weight evenly distributed? By the looks of it when the body is off, the answer is a big "NO." that might be another reason it is so squirrely. the weight/balance needs to be the same on both sides or the vehicle is always going to go squirrely. Great video, bro. Good Luck with all the project cars and upcoming events.
Part of the problem may be the rear unloading and spinning from the wheely bar not letting the rear squat. You need to find a happy medium of the rear squatting but the front not lifting and unloading too badly. I’d raise the wheely bar and maybe let the front travel down more more so it has to raise higher to break contact for the front. Maybe try weight on front also.
Very cool project. Do you have sway bars? I noticed it’s still a little squirrelly on launch. Maybe add preload to the rear shocks where needed.. I know you had the TSM on, but did you try turning it off even for S&G’s? So many factors! Plus you said it was cold where you’re at so that may play a factor even with the sauce. Hopefully we’ll see more videos on this particular car.
I did it with mine but its alittle wonky to use. I put a normally closed button on my controller. Only down side is it goes in reverse if the button is hit so i gotta hit it while the wheels are spinning so it cancels it out and it will sit still with any throttle input until i release the button.
Hey Mark cool video, you could try out the Hot Racing sway bars to help your drag Tundra get more traction. Hot Racing makes sway bars for both the 2WD and 4x4 Slash.
Mark try using a higher "C" battery. I run ZEEE 5500mah 120c 3s battery on my Slash 4x4. I use a Hobbywing MAX 8 ESC. I also use Foam Tires instead of rubber. I drag race every Sunday night in my RC club in Brunswick Georgia. I am currently running 1.9 at 92mph
@@eastonchristensen3601 I had an issue just recently where my Velineon VXL 3s ESC caught on fire with one of my ZEEE 3s battery's plugged in and the battery still works lol. BTW, Traxxas is awesome!!! They replaced my ESC, ESC fan, and my motor free of charge.
@@eastonchristensen3601 I was gifted a VXL system for Christmas. I called them up. Explained what happened. Printed out the mail slip. Then sent it off to them. After that, they took care of me.
I think you might need more toe-in front and rear to help make the truck slightly less “responsive” to steering inputs. I know I’ve chased drivability issues only to discover my alignment was slightly out, not where I thought it was let alone where I wanted it to be. She’s a ripper though!
You should try putting heavier diff fluid in the rear or even install the hot racing diff locker and maybe lower the front and raise the rear so the truck can squat for more traction
Hey I was going to put m/t I’m my fully built rally but it didn’t seem practical and a week later I see you on the idea please get the rally and do it it’s such a fun car
Few things that I would do. So you definitely want to get the wheelie bar off the ground it could be the reason your all over the place. 1 million diff fluid rear for sure and maybe up front 500k or better. Add some front weight to help keep the front end down and planted, do not use the wheelie bar it's more for flip protection than anything else. Stiffen up the suspension in the rear either more preload or thicker oil. For the front I'd go little lighter on the oil than rear and add preload so when the front comes up it still trys to push it into the ground if that makes sense. Then make sure your weight is even left to right that could cause it to pull to one side or the other. Tuning for 4wd is gonna be difficult but I would absolutely love to see you hit low 2s. Good luck cant wait for future uploads.
the reason you're spinning on take off as opposed to just holding the car, when you take off you're getting a load transfer from the front to the rear squatting the back of your car, ultimately reducing traction up front which is probably/most likely where you're take off wheel spin is coming from, you have a decent camera, put it beside the truck and watch in slow mo as you do your launches, I'm sure you'll see the weight transfer and the wheel spin up front.
slipper clutch slipping a lot, easy to hear if you know what to listen for... that jump in G's mid run is the clutch finally grabbing, not tire spin. If you lock that clutch down hard you probably could go low 2's
I think I read that alot of guys use tire warmers to help not only get the tire prep ready but to get some heat in the tires before they take a practice run
I wonder if the slipper clutch is starting to spin on it cuz you have so much traction and it's not the tires spinning that would make sense for this soft launch and picking up a lot of speed really fast Midway through the Run
18 t pinion.im running a 31t and it moves crazy. Those front tires are balloning to much thats why you have a line in the middle of your tires.great stuff
Mark, it looks bloody amazing. Keep tweeking it and having fun. Love the vids but only just subbed. Get a crappy shell that one is too nice. Or don't crash. Lol
I have been drag racing in Ohio and if you use prep, you need to clean the tires with simple green if prep is a little sticky or non-clorinated brake cleaner if prep is really sticky. Also after every pass you should clean and re prep your tires. But I am excited to see how your car goes.
Hey Ive been tuning and building drag set ups and in your situation I thing it’s best even thought this sounds counter intuitive you need to put wheight on it you can buy rc car wheights or make your own
I think if you can spend some time setting up the suspension you’ll go a lot faster :D. Either that or go to a surface that is better prepped for drag racing ;) Not sure how it’s done in the RC world but it the real drag world they sauce the track :P
Without TSM you have to adjust the the steering expo. So you just have a very small amount of steering. When the car is all over place that's you overcompensating. But i say it's you but really it's the truck making you do it. I know you have other car you can just put it down and they feel planted and you can drive it straight as arrow. You have to set it up so it goes nice and straight. But you still only need very little steering.Just try it..You won't have to fight it to keep it straight.I don't drag race but i raced oval for many years and i would think getting it to go straight without touching the steering wheel and scrubbing speed off. Great suggestions from kobe shutter, Below. BTW Love both tundra's!!!!
It takes a lot of work to get then to run the numbers, I have run 2.54@55 on a rally with a vxl system on 3s, it was geared 18/50 on foams, sub 2 will be a lot of work my best pass in a rally on 3s with no wheelie bar has been 2.41@60mph using a blx185 esc with a 3800kv 3665 eBay motor. My new setup for this year will be a MMX8s and a cnhl 9500 90c 3s battery and a tp motor.
