Oh yeah the new 'Fat is beautiful and brave' bullshit bandwagon. I guess it's easier for some people to accept that movement then accept responsibility and do the hard work to lose weight and be healthy.
What's wrong with drinking WATER with your meal? I'm from Canada, everywhere I go in America, people are always drinking sugar-sweetened beverages like soda and iced tea with their meals in restaurants. I rarely see people drink water with their meals. That would be a good start!
Here in Australia a lot of restaurants serve free water, so people are somewhat motivated to drink water because they don't have to pay for it.. I'm not sure how it is in the US though
I think they may be shamed for asking for something that is free or very cheap. It happens here in Brazil. The more you spend the better it is to show off, even if you barely have money to pay your bills.
WC yeaaah like water is the best drink ever, and have 0 calories I remember, I was addicted to ice teas and sugar drinks i drinked like 3/4 glasses per day but i substitute it for water and now im fell much better
Agreed. I actually started cutting down how much I buy something even low calorie like soup from Panera and make my lunch at home before I leave for work; now all three meals are made at home except on Thursdays and Fridays, as a treat. The easiest way to give yourself a raise is to stop eating out so much!
I completely agree. Just the other day, I baked tilapia ($4.58 for 2 fillets) and asparagus ($2.99/bunch) and it was enough for dinner and then lunch the next day. That's $3.78 for each meal.
john mayer And you're not hungry all the time. Some believe that you really need discipline to eat nutritious food, but that is not true. I even tried a vegan LCHF diet for six months, you get used to it within a week.
I went on a no sugar low carb organic vegetarian diet eight months ago because I wanted to be healthier. My company had a meeting where everyone was offered a Christmas holiday Starbucks coffee latte. (Use to be a big fan, no hate) I didn't finish the latte because it just didn't taste as good as I remembered. Your taste buds change when you pull away from sugar.

“We can’t afford healthy food and exercise,” “We can’t afford the surgery and medicines,” Pay the farmer now or pay the doctor later, as the saying goes.
@travpoet Well most people need some guidance about working out. And it's not only jogging/walking that is necessary. They could make a policy that gyms would be cheaper or something i dont know. In my country gyms are super cheap like 69 euros per year (the cheapest), endless people subscribe but many fail to attend.
Im from Vietnam - a country with the lowest rate of obesity. It is amazing to live here as fresh fruits and vegetables are cheaper than processed and fast food.
Vietnam doesnt have cheap seed oils, chemicals, petrolium, overly pesticide foods, not sure if yall got GMO foods but we do. If all of these would be banned like in U.K or Russia, Mcdonalds would be a healthy meal choice.
@beep boop Schools, at least in America, are infamous for their poor food choices. There's not a lot of funding for schools as it is so you just have to make do with the food they provide. At my high school they won't let you walk out if you don't have any fruit or vegetables on your tray which seems to work. But in the end it's up to the kids to decide what they want to eat or not. In the mornings I usually have a cup of coffee and eat 1 meal a day which is dinner, but I know not everybody can live off the same diet.

I wonder if your government subsidizes the stuff the American one does. Corn, for example, gets heavily subsidized. So almost all of our cheap junk food is based on corn. Either it's high-fructose corn syrup, or the feed given to the beef cows, or just the food ingredient itself. The cheapest food here relies the most on corn. Economies of scale handles the rest, for us.
Lb of cheapest red apples is like $3-$2 a lb I think .that's dollar for each. this is at the main markets I go to the no name brand markets (Aldis) for the majority of my stuff 3lb bag is $5 .alot of ppl don't go there.they want a Nike banana

40ozpukeface I agree. I spend about $30 a week to buy fruits, vegetables, and meats which provide every meal I eat. No gluten, no junk food, no sweet beverage. It’s cheap and healthy. It’s just not that convenient.
But an apple cost more than a burger according to this misinformation of a video posted. Maybe apples are out of season somewhere. Haha This video is based on lies. Its always cheaper shopping at grocery stores.
People say that healthy food is expensive but I wonder if they know medical bills due to poor health is even more expensive. The majority of health problems in the USA are not genetic, they’re from bad eating habits.
Aisha Davis I know right... in the long run paying all those maintenance meds is more debts and money that could have been saved and enjoyed with family. People seriously need to think about things in the long run and how it could affect lives. They could always start planting their own fruits and vegetables... seeds are not expensive. If money was really the reason why people choose fast foods people needs to figure ways to save more and take care of self. When we take for granted our health we also lose our freedom.
"You eat fast food, and you're not getting the nutrients that you need, so you eat more trying to get those nutrients that your body needs." Great statement
When food becomes entertainment and anti-depressant, it's bound to happen. We eat when sad, anxious, happy, sulking, doing nothing, what else to expect..
If anything that kind of food favors a depressing state, quit sugar, get out that and your head fills lither, more clear, it's unbelievable what people believe they have to rely on.
I have about 6 kilos extra, and my doctor pointed it out that since it is all in my middle section, it is a health risk. When I told my best friend about this, she got offended that a doctor should not say stuff like that. Huh? I am happy he pointed it out, I feel like he cares and he gave me good tips. We are all so blinded by fat that we see it as normal. I think that is concerning.
You need to find a better friend. She is such a snowflake that is out of touch to reality. Fat shamming is good because it's a situation that can be changed through food and exercise.

Here in Japan school meals are cooked from scratch in the school kitchen, from preschool on. They are fantastic, flavorful and varied. Made largely from local ingredients, and fresh vegetables are delivered each morning. A very nice system indeed. Well done, thank you.

All of the food is disgusting. It actually used to be better and more nutritious than it is now. Trust me. Also, the portion sizes are a little ridiculous for the ages of the students targeted. At my school, 14-15 year olds are being served a 4 tiny chicken nuggets and a small packet of carrots. So no, it’s not filling or energizing.
ericakelly123 I think the problem was the food looked like prison meals. Slop. It went from a meal easily compared to a home cooked meal, to slop. It looked disgusting. The “meat” was gray with the “healthy” meals.
My mom went to the US for some courses when she was younger and she said that in a couple of months she gained 10 kilos. She said that even the bread was kind of sweet.
It's the strategy of the capitalists. They say that the market should be free. If it was for them, child labor would be in. Oh wait, it's coming back! They rather keep getting their pockets full of sugar money than to care for people.
Mc Donald's always had some sterile and fake taste to me as if their burgers came from a chemical lab or something like that. I really feel disgusted by their food.

any fast food place is gross asf. I hope gen z or any future generations in America don't go there on a daily basis. I want people to learn, and not repeat.
+mrblowhard2u It's addictive, sugar is as addictive as cocaine and a lot of people can't have it in moderation after a while. It also breaks the body and mind down so eventually they feel really bad without it. You can call that lazy beacuse that's what it looks like but I call it addicted to drugs. You can also compare it to that some people can use ilegal drugs recreational on ocasion and not suffer badly from it while other get hooked and have their lives ruined, are they bad and lazy? I don't think so, I think it is bad to sell people drugs and that it is insane to be able to do it legaly.
random fun times, yes!!! This this this!!! People really need to do their research on certain foods and their different addictive qualities. This stuff is not made up, there's been studies done on mice that actually have proven sugar to be equivalent to COCAINE in the way it chemically reacts in your brain, it is EXTREMELY addictive. Also cheese! Cheese is in so much of our food and a lot can't live without it because of the casomorphine! Which is also an addictive substance, it's made to be that way to keep the baby cows drinking the milk to grow, so when we eat it it has the same effect and we want more and more. There's so much people are kept ignorant of, but you just need to do your own research, this stuff is seriously addictive and there are food scientists who study this stuff and figure out which foods to market the most because their the most addictive, that's why dairy products are in majority of foods as well as sugar!!! So until we treat obese people as drug addicts which is really what they are, we will never get to the meat and potatoes of this issue, haha, see what I did?
mrblowhard2u It is not will power but biochemistry. It is the grains, sugars and how Big Ag has changed the DNA of foods especially wheat , which is now a 18-24" inch high plant compared to a 5 foot high plant of our grandparents.
Many people don't know this but food can either heal you or kill you. Just pick the right foods. Low carb, veggies, meat. It's hard but so is being over weight and needing meds. I was pre diabetic and I turned it around. Had high blood pressure turned it around. Was 330lbs and I've lost over 140. It's possible. It's a long hard journey but it's possible
Congrats on turning it around. You did not choose excuses and took responsibility for your life. The diet doesn’t have to be repetitive and boring. You can eat cheap, healthy, tasty food. I never understand how Americans like to think healthy food equal expensive and not tasty. I would like to add more on the healthy food options. Low good carbs: sweet potatoes, pumpkin, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, quinoa, brown rice noodles. Protein: meat, fishes, shrimps, tofu, beans, eggs. Fiber: any type of veggies. Just visit an Asian grocery store, you guys will see how many options you could have. Good fats: almonds, nuts and seeds, greek yogurt, nut butter, avocado, cheese. The easiest way to make any food taste better is adding some low sodium soy sauce or mushroom seasoning. American cuisine like to use only salt to season and it’s why lots of people have high blood pressure and diabetes at the same time.
@@itsnotif.itswhenhigh blood pressure and diabetes are caused by SUGAR not salt. They’re by byproducts of insulin resistance. People develop insulin resistance through eating too much sugar/carbs and foods high in Omega 6, also frequent eating can cause it. But your protein suggestion is good I’ll also say eat fatty meat, eat butter, and dairy (if you can tolerate it) you need saturated fats for optimal health
@Jonathan Norway I kinda agree, some people go out and say that obesity is beautiful, but most of them just say that chubby people (I mean healthy, for example, genetics?) Are valid too
Alexandrea N we do mostly veggies and lean meats from the markets. On the weekends we might stop by a local bakery and get a loaf of fresh bread or some chocolate croissants. For fast food I have taken a shine to Turkish döner kebap. They are really yummy.
Surprised to be charged more on a bottle of water than a bottle of soda when I was in the US. It made me realise how the mindset towards food is vastly different than where I come from. I probably spent a lot more on water while I was there but I have no regrets. IMO, its how the culture is shaped - they are brought up on "convenient" so fast food or anything that cut short the processes is the ultimate option. My US friends are very car-centric culture and hated walking anything more than 500m, while I'm just so used to walking everywhere - if its within 2km, I just put on my headphones and walk there. If they can take their car or the public transportation, they would (I digress on walking-centric cities tho like NY). But overall, I just told them they could increase their daily exercises by walking where they need to be. A few friends take me up on that and saw their weight dropping just by walking to shops, to their office, or just walking at the park leisurely in the morning/evening.
That's the only reason I enjoy being in a downtown area - everything is within walking distance. Unfortunately I actually live in a small town. You have to drive 15 minutes minimum to get to most businesses, so walking there and back would take hours. A lot of the U.S. is set up like that - where we rely heavily on highways to get us where we need to go, so we get used to the cars because they're necessary in most areas. There's a TON of rural places here, even though the media likes to focus on big cities. But when I do get the chance, I love to find a downtown area, park my car, and walk to the multitude of shops for about an hour or so.
But... how is it even possible? Soda needs water to even been made, how it can be cheaper than water... Also, one of the best things you can do is if in your area tap water is good, just use it to drink, instead of buying. Better for environment because less plastic bottles and much much cheaper
Most obesity in the USA is because people have forgotten the victims of nuclear war. Need to apologise and use thoughts to retrieve the nuclear bombs. The Manhattan Project produced two different types of atomic bombs, code-named Fat Man and Little Boy.
Most people who drink a lot of water have a water bottle and at home filter. Too many US citizens are sedentary and don’t make communities bike friendly and are to spread out to walk. I live on an island and love to ride bikes but on the island’s roads you are taking your life in your hands. They are slowly building bike paths and people drive from all over to utilize them but if they built bike lanes for our highways they could probably reduce traffic by about 30% in the most inhabited corridors.
I was 6 foot 1 and weighed 285 lbs. I went on diet, stood strong, avoided fast food, and worked out. I started slow and gradually worked myself up to more exercise. A few months later I lost 70 lbs. It takes time, not a miracle.
uefamikep that’s awesome keep it up. People wants quick fix in everything. The magic lose weight pill , surgery, meds. Seriously this era is just full of lazy people. Nobody wants to do things for oneself anymore. I’m not perfect and yes I’m not 💯 consistent in working out but it slaps me silly and back to my senses when I think about maintenance meds in the future if I don’t take care of myself now or how my generation might not live as long as my parents. It’s scary!!!
Thats good but it doesnt take years, it takes about 2 weeks if you work super hard, 2month medium to hard and 6 months to see a real difference. 10 years is too long, you need to sweat, breaking into a sweat means you are working at the right level
uefamikep good one you bro! Keep up the good work. Also if you smoke marijuana it burns fat cells. Keep in mind when the munchies hit in, only drink water. All the best!
@@RT-fs3tt How about a regular apple ? In a normal supermarket, not some bumbaclaat nightshop or gas station? The fact that you associate apples with such ludicrous prices means you don't know how and where to do your shopping. I ain't from the USA but other people from there posting comments here get them much cheaper. Food should be cheaper in NY like here in London, i.e. cheaper than out in the sticks, because of logistics and greater competition. Of course if I buy in a tourist shop, or a small shop in the City of London (like Manhattan, where the big bankers and stockbrokers work) it's gonna cost me 10 times what it costs in a regular grocers.
@@RT-fs3tt But you can buy a bag of non-organic apples for like $3.99 and that's going to be a lot healthier and a lot more food than any burger of equal or lesser value. Just gotta have your dried stuff stocked up and keep buying produce in small, usable amounts so they don't perish.
I don’t have energy after eating fast food. I feel heavy, weighed down and nauseous. And that’s just after eating a flimsy cheeseburger and small fries.
Absolutely true. My legs blow up if I eat any fast food and my stomach doesn't like it. I only eat at foreign family run small restaurants. No problems.
I grew up in a small province of the Philippines, where we don't have any fast food chains in the area, and we only eat vegetables, fish, and fruits all the time. I remember having my first fast food experience after I graduated college and moved to the big city. So growing up, fast food for us was a luxury, and we only drank soda if there was a celebration. To add up, because of the lifestyle I adopted and still doing while living in the US, I can say that I never got sick nor had any health issues.
Same with the word "fat". There's nothing wrong with referring to someone as fat, it literally just means having a lot of flesh on the body. It's unhealthy but that's all it means.
I live in Europe and my sister once had the opportunity to participate in a student exchange in the USA. When she was on her way back, my mother asked what she would like to have as her first meal at home. My sister said "just a salt. A real salad. Maybe some spaghetti". My mother asked what she meant by "real salad". My sister said "real salad. Just with greens and vegetables without cream without sugar without fried in it. And especially home-cooked spaghetti. I can't stand the food here anymore. It makes you sick. everything is sweet. Even the salad. No one here cooks for themselves, they can't do it anymore". About 20 years ago in Canada, I would say it was very rare to see somebody who is morbidly obese. But now, I see it more and more. I have seen that in the past three years fresh food grocery prices have gone through the roof. Now I’m starting to notice that buying fresh healthy foods is costing more and I fear that we are going to turn out exactly the same as Americans.

Yeah...but in Europe, many countries have got much superior native food that is often healthier, delicious, sophisticated and very pleasurable to eat, especially countries like France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Greece, Austria, Hungary and quite a few others. Grilled meat is very popular in much of Eastern Europe. Why would anyone want to eat burgers, fried chicken, pizza (not including real Italian Pizza) etc when you can get some incredible local food and drink? Europeans know this only too well.
@ferkemall Hahaha...that's hilarious! Unfortunately that kind of nutritionally redundant trash is also widely popular in the UK. But it's not the UK's native food.
I visited America 3 years ago and I was SO shocked how cheap fast food is. I thought I would put on weight. But the 3 weeks I was there I lost weight as I couldn't stomach the food.
@benadryl cabbagepatch I get the same response because I don't like fast food garbage... At least I won't die of a heart attack in my 20's like the fried food addicts. So, call it a weak stomach... but at least I have a stronger heart that all of these people combined. Because I actually value my health. I love my country, but our ancestors didn't binge and eat junk. I'd much rather be like them than the others of my generation who are deluded into believing that obesity isn't a problem at all.
Something that is rarely discussed is that most of these foods are soft, preventing the jaw from the exercise of chewing it needs. This in turn pushes the lower jaw in, facilitating mouth breathing and reflux. Tooth decay is another issue altogether...
Mikey moo Eating a 1,100 calorie KFC donut sandwich is not the same as eating a healthy meal that contains 500 calories. Yes portion size matters, but what you eat is much more important. Weight gain/loss is about the calories going in and out of your body.
Devin Rumer Yeah that’s true, I was only saying that for someone in the United Kingdom it wouldn’t make sense calling Uni college, because we already have a college but it’s for a different study period entirely (like community college that you can attend at 16) for comparison it would be like calling university high school.
So true! These people like most are making excuses. I can't tell you how many overweight people I know are lazy and have no self control but then get angry cause we don't allow them to use their weight and bad habits as excuses.
I was in Angola Africa back in 2015 and I was overweight back then. We went grocery shopping at a local market, and I put a snickers bar on the checkout counter. The girl working there did not speak English, but she made it very clear that I do not need that candy bar because I was already fat. That is how it ought to be; tell it like it is and quit worrying about people's feelings.
If you have been to the US, fresh vegetables and ingredients for cooking is expensive when it adds up. You can get fast food and frozen dinners for just a dollar something.
@@celesteaurigue5546 that's a misconception. To be considered "pasture raised" or "free range" the animal only needs the opportunity to go outside. Most chickens and cows that are raised are so obese that they don't even want to go outside. Oh and to be considered "all natural" just means that the animals cannot be fed non natural products or meat. Basically it says your cows have to eat grass and your chickens have to eat seeds. Finally, one of the biggest misconceptions out there is "hormone free". It is against US federal law to inject hormones into animals. Same thing with "GMO free." In 1998 a law was passed that made mutation of plants and animals illegal. However the progress was already made. A real banana is about 4 inches long. And a real strawberry is about the size of a pea. All these labels are just ploys to make you pay more. Don't fall for it.
This is crazy. This is what happens when you outsource children’s health to corporate profit/greed. When I was in school - our school lunches were outsourced to small family-owned cafeterias. So these were literally someone’s mother cooking these meals and delivering them fresh to the schools everyday (several moms/dads running small businesses). Literally “home cooked” school lunches. Not only do the kids get healthier hearty food, but you’re also providing livelihood to families.
@@4ElementGirl hi! this was just around 20 yrs ago I would say, but I’m in Asia so family-owned food business is actually quite common and of high quality. So it’s quite easy to do here :)
@@IrisAnne I'm a Sri Lankan and those kinda cafeterias are still a thing! Most of the food options are really healthy like rice & curry, chickpeas etc.
@@dilmi775 glad to hear the practice is also alive and well in your country! I hope we stop “westernizing” our practices, especially our systems around food. Coz historically our traditional food are really healthy and natural right? :)
Nowadays you can't call people fat or overweight because its "fat phobic" .I'm not a person who likes to fat shame but we can't normalize being obese and unhealthy.
I am overweight and I call myself FAT 'cause I AM FAT, I could 🤮 when I look in the mirror, I am still on a weight loss journey, but I'll get there eventually, 3 more stone to go

I remember growing up in India before moving to the U.S. As a child, a ramen noodle company would come to our school and advertise their products. They had hot plates and cooked noodles for the entire school. All the kids were hooked and it was free. I went home and wanted more. Great advertising!!!! This was 1985. Now living in the U.S. and in my 40s, I see it everywhere. You'll never see a broccoli AD on television or on a RU-vid feed. 🙄
I don’t lie. It is accurate. Dealt with all forms of childhood abuse for 6 years… Survived two forest fires and one hurricane… Saw murder in Mexico while on vacation. Lost too many people in life to unnatural deaths… Turned to food to cope which led me to being 258 pounds. Hate it. I’m Canadian. I’m also Métis one of the indigenous people. Intergenerational trauma is definitely a thing…
I am italian, in my opinion you can be addicted to junk food only during childhood, if you grew up esting good food you cannot like that when you are adult. I don' like McDonald's at all!
@@frank_zapping You do know that anecdotal evidence is worthless? I'm German, and I was a fairly sporty youth, at 21 I was a wiry 82 kilos with big muscular legs from all the cycling I did. I gradually blew up to over 130 kilos at times. And it was mostly "liquid calories" that did it for me. Cola is an evil thing. Caffeine and sugar in something fizzy that is generally served cold? I started getting hooked on that suff in my twenties. Now that I am over fourty and hitting the wall in terms of health consequences of that lifestyle, I am gradually shrinking myself down again. But it's tough. I can eat clean and drink water for weeks at a time, but there is never a time when chocolate doesn't taste good, when I couldn't drink down a litre of coke and thoroughly enjoy every sip of it. The main problem with food addictions and obesity is that whatever your problem was, once you got fat, that's a new problem with its own psychological consequences. Which one can self-medicate with more food and drink... And make no mistake: being fat isn't pleasant, especially when you have been fit before. It's also highly inconvenient at times. But when the pleasure drug is so easily available, you just keep taking it...
Exactly, my problem isn’t what I eat it’s how much. It’s been such a quick way to get endorphins for the last couple years it feels like I’m always wanting food. Luckily I reach for fruits and veg but still.

Some place literally called "food desert". Why? Because there is no supermarket to supply fresh produce. So the fast food is the monopoly food distributor on that place.
Fast food IS cheap. I can literally get a mini double cheeseburger and a spicy chicken wrap for less than $6. I can't make it that cheap at home unless I grow my own food.
To lose that much weight, you are eating healthier. Congratulations. But be careful, it takes a couple years for the body to 'forget' it was heavier and accept its new normal.
