I have just done this exact configuration with a Kinsgton NV2 2TB. Connecting with the USB-C you can get 1000M/s Read and Write, the maximum is always 1250 capped by the port, still a very good alternative. One thing I noticed is that if you use it intensly it tends to get hot. Just remove the outside of the case the temperature will drop 10 celsius just by doing that. Great video.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and providing a valuable advice about the case removal! I had no idea, that removing the outside of the case can make such a significant difference in temperature.

I would always recommend spinning harddrives for important data and backup. If data gets erased by accident, you can recover it, if there is physical damage, phorensics can rebuild the drive.

Thanks for review. Was quite clear but left me with couple of questions. A lot of reviewers of some enclosures report issues coming out of some. Ugreen actually attracted me in that it seems maybe a good one. They advertise a solid controller. Have you had in use over time - Any heating issues? Any disconnects? s whats usb A performance like on your nitro? The reason I enquire as to these is I would want it as external OS boot drive and would really like to find a solid/reliable one as possible. thanks

Hello! Haven't faced anything like that. I would have mentioned that in the review if I did. Enclosure does get hot, but not burning hot. I have edited large video projects with all the files on the drive for up to 6hr straight + a couple hours of rendering - and had 0 disconnects. With usb-a you get a significant (almost half) speed drop, so I use that only to transfer some smaller files. I would definitely recommend type-c connection if you're planning to use this as system drive. Though even with usb-a it should still be snappier compared to traditional HDDs.

Hi! Links are in the video description. I've used Ugreen NVMe enclosure and Hynix Gold P31 1Tb NVMe SSD.

I'm looking to buy this for a WD850 - does the SSD need to have a heatsink attached for it to work properly?
@NickBorodenko
@NickBorodenko Год назад
This enclosure is not designed for an SSD with an additional heatsink as it is too slim. However, it is capable of effectively dissipating heat by itself. Another option to consider is the Orico enclosure which comes with a heatsink for the SSD.

Sorry to hear that. You could have picked m.2 SATA (so called NGFF) ssd and NVMe enclosure or vice versa. What is the model of your ssd?

Thank you brother the video. While transferring big files does it get hot and how much speed does it drop? from 500 to 20/30MBps?
@NickBorodenko
@NickBorodenko 2 года назад
Hi, and thanks for feedback! Actually, it doesn't drop speed for larger files (tested for file transfers of up to 100 gb) - constant 700+ mb/s when connected via usb-c. It stays cool if You're just transferring files for less than 15 min. When using the drive for something like video editing footage straight from it for a couple of hours it will get hot, but not to a degree when it can burn Your hand.

@@NickBorodenko thanks again for the kind reply. I was expecting something good as it's a nvme ssd which generally doesn't get that hot anyways.

@@NickBorodenko can I ask you about one more thing? I want to know about the included cable it came with. Was that an only USB C to C cable? Any USB A to C cable? I do have a portable ssd (Sata) which came with both USB C to C & A to C.
@NickBorodenko
@NickBorodenko 2 года назад
@@MarkAelham That depends on where You're buying it. I ordered mine from China and there was an option to include both type-A and type-C cables. Standard package is type-c to type-c cable only.
