You know Paul, as we are building our new horse farm, we try to design things as lean as possible to start with. We try to keep that in mind, and of course improvements will have to be continuous. The funny thing is that when we catch something that isn't very lean, we will give each other a hard time and ask "What would Paul say?!" Or "Paul wouldn't like that!" hahahaha. Paul and lean are definitely a part of our lives. Brad

Sounds like a good company to work for. The places I have worked at says work smarter not harder, but when you do something to make your job easier or use something not used traditionally, they say you can't do that or use it.

I liked the trolley with the block to put it on a angle, I had a similar idea, now i know how to do it! I already have wheels mounted permanently to a milk crate which is the frame. So the height can easily be doubled by just adding an additional crate. Crate can also be used as storage.

Came here because of the Kaizen foam. I'm from Australia, and it looks a great product. I'm thinking of making up some cut outs for my microphones and tools. Love the dogs on site. I have found a distributor in Melbourne, so I'm really pleased.

Hi Paul was watching your video, do your outbount pallets don't have fixed locations? @22:10 Also at @22:47, you might want to add a measuring stick to the palletsealer so he can just drop down a horizontal stick that reads the hight... That way he won't have to grab a measuring tape... :)

Alicia screw counter can works better with a spring, what can't allow the mistake that Paul did. And the right hand's motion is not necessary. If you can check the left hand is waiting for the right. With a bit longer arm on the cone, she can fill the bag with one hand immediately like a sodamachine.

I'm curious about the balance between process improvement and actual production work. Do you improve process just as a result of 3S-ing, or also during normal production? And if you also improve during normal production, do you stop the line to improve (or only in case of defects) or do you write the improvement down and implement it after you've finished producing what is currently requested downstream?
@jimbobsjourney

From reading 2 second lean I’m pretty sure they do 15 mins in the morning of cleaning, 15 mins improvement work where they come up with the ideas, and then go into their morning meeting before production.
@cynthiaschapansky2008
@cynthiaschapansky2008 3 года назад
I used to work there and we were allowed to stop struggling and improve immediately depending on situation as well as in the morning. Then we would share that improvement in morning meeting next day. We improved immediately often times so you wouldn't have to struggle through whole order with what is bugging you. You didn't have to "wait" to enjoy benefit of improvement.

i just had to share this video with a colleague, he said something like " we are making 'chairs', i am not going to spent time on lean, i will do what makes us money that is making chairs not lean projects" he is a senior tech with tons of lean training on him and still don't get it. i hope his thinking changes.

In this video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qZgG6PMJMNI.html) Paul discusses how to make lean effective by using your sphere of influence. Don't push lean on anyone. Get good at it yourself. Get your team good at it and they will begin to notice.

Would his thought processes work for Amazon Prime...?don't think so. Or take "Chewy dog food". I order a bag of dog food and the bag arrives at my door sometimes the next day. So this Lean thought of inventory does NOT work for the largest distributor in the world - AMAZON

So when you dont have final product inventory and the economy is "I want it now" and the distributor calls to say I need 10,000 widgets shipped by Monday...humm how does the lean thought work not....what happens is the distributor goes to someone else that has he product. Simple business 101 stuff. So Lean thoughts on inventory is a good thing but it cannot always be implemented in every situation. FastCap videos all push the same thing...produce when the order comes in...not good in most manufactures that make a product that must be available now....valves, pipe, health care products, etc. Businesses what the product shipped the day after order....cannot do that with his style of Lean...

That's a lot of words to say "I don't know anything about manufacturing, supply chain, or lean methodology."
@chubbyguyschannel6864
@chubbyguyschannel6864 3 года назад
@@bubbagump4703 You type of lean works for your business. I do think you do know something about lean. But only if you have time to fill the orders and at your size of business. Your style would not work in other manufacturing businesses...just my thoughts. Sorry I was not trying to poop on your parade.
@bubbagump4703
@bubbagump4703 3 года назад
@@chubbyguyschannel6864 Idk what you think, but the video is not mine, its not my business. I'm more saying that you don't know what you're talking about and don't know about lean methodology. Maybe some misinformed BUS 101 professor told you something, idk. Lean can work for every business and every manufacturer, because it is different for every business. Lean does not mean you have 0 inventory, it just means you don't have more inventory than you need to absorb demand uncertainty. This amount is different for every business. If you deal on short term high volume, then you would hold high levels of inventory. If you deal with lower volume with slightly longer lead times, then you should carry lower levels of inventory. Inventory and the facilities to hold it cost, and it is all about reducing that cost to no more than necessary. The idea that large companies with high volume and fast delivery don't operate with a lean methodology in mind is ridiculous, and anyone involved in supply chain design and management at any such place will tell you so.
@derpjenkins1001

If toyota the founders of lean can do it for their huuge orders and daily requirments then i dont see how your point works in saying lean doesnt work for big distribution companies. And like others have stated. Amazon does a lot of lean principals and they are only a huuuuge distrivution company.
