I will advice you my friend to be patient and keep waiting until more individuals come across you and realise your value, because surely you will be highly appreciated not that long in the future, and I say that with a certainty because the products that you offered to us, have introduced me to ideas of utmost importance that impacted me on a profound level and made me reconsider multiple aspects of our deep understanding of reality and our current technological forefront. Keep on doing your hard work, and thank you for what I'm going to now watch and enjoy!

Quantum Tunneling is one of those concepts that are very difficult to visualise because of our macroscopic understanding of the word 'barrier'. All representations I have seen depict the 'barrier' as a hard edged, usually rectangular shape, while the atom is either a wave or a fuzzy ball (as is the case in the diagrams you included). This mixing of macroscopic and atoscopic (if no descriptor exists, I propose 'atoscopic' to describe the atomic level viewpoint) is undoubtedly wrong. So too is the latest(?) visualization of wave functions, as those are calculated for a single, isolated atom. It will be some time before we 'see' what they really look like at the molecular level, especially when electromagnetic forces (and consciousness perhaps) are in play. I imagine wave functions are a lot better defined when you consider the interactions between the atom and all its neighbours. I feel we might need a simulation akin to that used to depict galaxy formation and collisions, but at an atoscopic scale (oh, look at that - it's catching on already!) to gain a better view of what's really going on.
@RatherBSquidding
@RatherBSquidding 2 года назад
Totally agree! Visualizations past the single particle are very lacking. I dig the term 'atoscopic' as well! :) Thanks Millisecond Falcon!
@voteindependentforindepend7181
@voteindependentforindepend7181 2 года назад
Also, as your craft approaches the speed of light it will become atoscopic meaning you wont have a macroscopic barrier to travers. There is the question however as to whether all the particles would tunnel through or just a portion of them with some perhaps hitting and bouncing back off of the barrier, effectively disintergrating the vessel....

I think it will turn out that those we think are time traveling are merely experiencing a different experience of time which each of us have separately. I sent you a link to some cool video I just made based on some cool data I discovered but you and Luis are big timers now and don't have time for us plebeians :) haha We all experience time differently. A dragonfly experiences time differently than humans. So when you say travel faster than light? What are your reference points? Anyhoo :) We also experience things differently based on our understanding. When you allow your mind to zoom out far enough or in far enough things have their own perception of time based on that zoom level. Nature is stranger than fiction we will find out soon I think.

If you got stuck at around the speed of light. fail to go fast enough you are going to become a really heavy for it's matter black hole, then explode as you are likely just energy now, not matter, so the mass would go down to the matter put in, and boom, you explode. I would also imagine that since you would become close to infinately massive for an exceptionally small amount of time, it would be a crazy heavy gravity burst of insane porportions, but sof rshuch a small amount of time, that the actuall effect would be not only massively more effective locally, but not very much more than that of increasing the mass of the ship just a bit, as gravity is acceleration, and in zero time, you get zero velocity, as well as zero force in zero time too, but a crazy burts of acceleration for an infitestimally shor ta mount of time would be an object hardly accelerating at all. However, a uber massive black hole, even for a small amount of time that it's like an asteroid, would probably create some unique time dialation effects, like bringing time ticks down to neraly zero for that short amount of time, meaning there may be long time realtive to the area effective, for that light speed fast buble of gravitons and space region. it might be possible that time and space trade roles for a bit, and who know what that would do. I would imagine that something bursitng with huge amounts of mass for a short amount of time would be imens, especially since a wave is more powerful if it drops. If you have huge gravity force come inot existance, then go out of existance, that would likely be more of an impact than just a sudden increase in gravity.

If you weren't moving fast enough to tunnel, you wouldn't reach the speed of light, but you would get closer and closer. Your inertial mass increases near lightspeed, but not your actual mass.

That graph at 4:30 shows the infinite energy requirement, then the required energy to go faster decreasing… so one, you’d have to then add energy to slow down, and add it fast enough to tunnel past the barrier again right? Because seems like you wouldn’t be able to slow down otherwise… without getting into the graph for time dilation would start curving the other way, going backwards in time, and contraction towards the distance of travel becoming negative and making a mirror image of itself?

But assuming that the speed of light is exceeded, how will the spaceship interact with the medium in which it is traveling at that speed? Does the kinetic energy rule apply to it? Doesn't this mean that any collision with even one cosmic dust will generate tremendous energy? Also, just as the spaceship needs a huge acceleration to exceed the speed of light, it also needs a huge deceleration immediately after it exceeds the speed of light in order to be able to maintain its tachyonic state
@ericgolightly8450
@ericgolightly8450 Год назад
That's a question I have. My guess is the particle will tunnel straight through the ship. But you would interact with other superluminal particles. If you hit a particle at 10c, it will create a force equivalent to hitting a particle at 0.1c.

@@ericgolightly8450 Do you mean that the law of kinetic energy works in reverse? This means that the higher the speed of the tachyon the lower its energy yeah very possible due to the inverted nature of tachyon compared to the laws of the universe as we know it

great content if i may make a suggestion though your eye position as you read your script is fairly hard to watch as it seems unnatural or tense try positioning the prompter or camera a bit differently or adding cuts and committing sections to short term memory to help prevent the unnerving effect you have at the moment ( like i said this isnt a jab, you have great clarity and Im interested to watch your channel grow but i can see your eyes flicking across the text and the avoidance of looking into the camera is limiting your overall presence and ability to connect to the audience fully with body language ) cheers from Canada mate!

The idea that a wavefunctions evolve in such a way that results in a nonzero probability of going FTL is well-known. It's also not real: it's an indication of the breakdown of single-particle wavefunctions as a useful concept in relativistic physics. When you move to the correct framework of quantum field theory this issue disappears.

Without some form of inertial dampening the human body could not survive that type of acceleration. I doubt the structure of the craft could survive the acceleration without the same inertial dampeners.
@Cobalt985
@Cobalt985 10 месяцев назад
If there were some way to accelerate _everything_ inside a spacecraft that wouldn't be an issue. The problem with acceleration on a human body is Newton's first law, things at rest tend to stay at rest - acceleration moves bits of your body separately which in this case means your organs go splat against your back. If there were a way to accelerate the whole body, contents and all simultaneously, that would solve the issue. But that's once again going into the realm of sci-fi.

i wonder if "macroscopic" tunneling has been observed on earth? makes me think of the plasma kugel ball lightning passing through glass windows,(japanese scientists) ive always wondered how that is possible.. perhaps a hint at the many advantages to having plasma around your craft?
@chrisford3858
@chrisford3858 2 года назад
So the extreme acceleration always triggers that quantum tunneling? Or is there just a chance? At 4:34 it says "That violent acceleration makes possible for the spaceship to tunnel through the light barrier" and I am curious if that is possible as in the case of the incredibly thin keyring on the nanometer hook, or possible as in the case of the regular items? Also, in the case of those infinitessimal sample items, what is the rate of incidence this occurs at, and are we able to manipulate that? Great video by the way, just spitting out some thoughts I had on developing this as technology.
@RatherBSquidding
@RatherBSquidding 2 года назад
Great questions Christopher! Mushas paper seems to imply that accelerating at 10^60 m/s^2 would cause a 100 ton craft to tunnel to light speed. I have the same questions you have though -- I can see how this would occur at a particle level, but I haven't wrapped my head around the entire craft tunneling. The paper doesn't address the rate of tunneling either, or potentials to manipulate the rate. I do have a hunch we might be able to influence these things more as we continue our understanding of the quantum realm.

Why warp spacetime when we could just travel around it altogether? Not necessarily through wormholes. New discoveries at the LHC from particle scattering amplitudes suggest there are geometries beyond spacetime influencing our own. In fact, these new geometries, outside spacetime, reduce the calculation of particle scattering amplitudes to a simple few terms, but when done with classical quantum math inside spacetime, you need a supercomputer. Many physicists now believe and see spacetime itself as not as fundamental as we once thought. It does make sense! The Planck scale, the limit of spacetime, at 10^-33 meters, is NOT incredibly tiny compared to most things in the universe. We also have Nobel Prize-winning experiments proving non-locality - no distance, beyond spacetime - and black hole math hints at something beyond spacetime altogether! Could warping spacetime for traveling through space be our Mickey Mouse thinking, we falsely assume spacetime is fundamental, so we naively try hard to travel through it when we could just go around it? Maybe that's why we don't see NHI's (UAP/UFOs with the 5 observables that suggest they might not be like Warp Engineering from Star Trek). We think they all travel through spacetime, but in fact, they are inter-dimensional, outside spacetime (as some conspiracy theories say).

Using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, astronomers have seen that the famous giant black hole in Messier 87 is propelling particles at speeds greater than 99% of the speed of light. So if you could control gravity and make a machine like this could you then go 99% greater than the speed of light. If this could be the case it would just not be traveling in your own galaxy but could other galaxies could be within reach.😉

This is interesting. As a current engineering student I’ve played with the idea of utilizing quantum phenomena for FTL travel. However, my idea differs in a few ways I would propose we could send smaller drone craft (even at subluminal speeds) to construct a type of gateway connected to one here through quantum entanglement that would allow the creation of a bridge between two points in space however this would be better suited for colonizing another star system. Rather than having each ship equipped with some type of FTL drive we have a sort of highway that allows a large amount craft to travel between points
@magearamil8626
