Nah, not that much. At most 9.70, because, ironically, if you run harder at the end while tensing up, you're going slower.

Relaxation in sprinting is key, as contradictory as it sounds. Often the shutting down of winners at the line is them realising they have reached maximum velocity fatigue. This means that trying to maintain the high speed they're going at will slow them down significantly. At that level they are so aware of their abilities that shutting it down makes them run a better time then trying to maintain form and losing more in the process. For that very reason coaches train athletes to run through the line so that in a race the distance will never feel longer then they're used too

It was not the final round but a Qualifying run. He likely did not think he was going that fast. Easily sub 9.7 if He Had finished the Run in a normal way.

I actually think Collins' smoking late-career times are the reason why Gatlin hasn't retired yet. He saw the possibilities after seeing Kim Collins excel at uncommon ages for a sprinter.

A man who has fallen, paid his penance… done his time. This is a man who instead of just wallowing in the miasma of guilt over an offense that he has paid for in full - has rebuilt from the ashes and kept running way after the age people consider the prime of running. He has done it the right way! Mad respect for defying the odds and stepping up and not allowing a bad turn/decision in his past to determine the outcome of his future.

But you just don’t see too many guys who can run a sub 10 second 100m at 40. Even Yohan Blake’s subtle rise since the 2012-2016 Olympics has been impressive to see since he didn’t compete in these previous Olympics

This is a creative analysis, kudos. I’ve watched Gatlin since he was a Vol, and to see his career rise and fall has had me crying at times. But the way he came back with humility and dedication renewed my faith in him. I think his legacy will be redemption and endurance.

Imo the 3 most amazing are Bolt's 9.58, Gatlin's 9.74 & Collin's 9.93 in terms of speed compared to age. Bolt's 9.69, Gay's 9.69 & Bolt's 9.63 also spectacular (well any sub 9.7 is amazing/suuuuuuuuper rare, so Blake's too).

Yea but not really....Bolt became too Complacent and loves to party (trust me i'm Jamaican i know, he even said it) It took Blake to beat him and push him Back to his best in 2012; since Blake beat him he ran the second fastest and third fastest he has ever ran.

He saw Justin Gatlin on TV tell a radio host that he was going to strut the gold medal like a gold chain from LA to New York and when he heard Gatlin say this he knew he couldn’t let him win

@@alexreid2365 probably not faster than 9.58. He wasn't celebrating early in that WR sprint of his. Even the 2008 olympic final where he was celebrating before he won, if he had maxed out, it wouldn't have made him go more than 0.10 s faster, cuz it was only in the last 15m or so when he celebrated and 0.10 s faster is really a lot in 100m race. So probably 9.58 was really his best
