You owe it to yourself to see these cars in person at least once in your life. Completely different experience. Sit near the starting line and you will feel it in your chest when these cars take off. Thanks for the upload.
@@steviejd5803 good question.depends on where you live. They may have a strip in or around where you live.ask a auto parts store they should be able to help you out or goggle nearest race car strip to you.good luck.
I love watching these videos but they don't do them justice. Seeing, hearing, smelling, and feeling them in person is indescribable. There is nothing like it.
Not very many people at US 66 for the Friday night time trials! Stands were empty . The NHRA should take some notes from NASCAR. No charge for parking , and they allow you to bring in coolers instead of charging you $8.00/beer !
@@ddmau7995 Yeah forreal tho, huh!?!? That 8 dollars for a guzzle or two of brew is such a jew move! I'm totally for the event making money in order to take place but dude c'mon that's just highway frickin robbery, damnit!!!
That has to be possibly the best video of this type ever; no idle time between runs with ego-chat, lots of fabulous machines and superb quality video. Thanks for making and sharing.
0 to 300+ MPH in less than 4 sec. Spewing sheets of flames out of the exhausts the whole time. You wanna talk about "more power!", Clarkson? Wrap your head around this. Those stands should be packed, btw. Please support this amazing and truly American motorsport.
Amazes me every time I see drag race uploads from the USA. Empty stands............ I mentioned It before, but I think, there is a drag strip in every corner of every state and every weekend there's a top fuel event in the US of A, I guess. Over here, we have 6 topfuel events during the whole year. The nearest event for me is @ Hockenheim once a year a 285 mile trip.
@@brianiswrong Dunno what costs are in the USA. Some number overhere: quali tickets (only saturday) burnout zone, €120,- End zone, €80,-. weekend tickets €150,-/€100,-
Having been a drag strip kid since i was seven i can appreciate what these cars can do. Having been with Tommy Ivo, Don Garlits and Shirley Muldowney, I am proud that drag racing is in my blood.
If I did this right: for a 30 frame/sec camera (normal movie rate) (using 320 mph) 15.6 feet per frame would be traveled. 320 mph x 5280 ft/mi ÷ 3600 s/hr ÷ 30 frames/s = 15.6 ft/frame 15.6 ft/fr = 187 in/fr so 30 fr/s x 187 = 5610 fr/s, minimum, needed for 1 inch increments. Suddenly 10,000 frames/sec (1/2") is somewhat course (for 320 mph). (Don't ask me to do this twice 😵)
Now this is racing...great finishes sooo close..amazing cars, crazy speeds. Love it. Bought tickets for me and my 12 yr old son to the gatornationals in Gainesville March 15th..cant wait😁
So excited for you guys Gary Smith! I grew up on the tracks in the 70s (born Dec '73) through late 80s.. My Uncle Johnny Dowey raced The Homewrecker, Funny car Pro-Stock. Shirley Muldowney & Bunny Burkett were like an Aunts to me! The best memories of my life. Oh, ear plugs won't get the job done for your boy 😏 Big head 'phones' Y'all take pictures for memories, have a blast!!! 🚦🏎️🏁
@@trhenryvlogs9638 I can't wait either ! Last year was pretty awesome. Lots to look at 👀👀 , things to see.... Oh and some bad ass cars too...😁 It's worth the price of admission....
I lived miles away from the only 1/4 mile on Oahu growing up and every Sat night my dad and I would wait till we could hear the big boys start cranking up then we’d drive over in our 68 RS/SS Camaro. Those are some of my best childhood memories getting some fries or a hotdog from the concession stand. I was so comfortable at the track as a kid that I’d fall asleep up in the stands since the races would go past midnight some nights. This was in the 90’s before people wore hearing protection lol so in between my years and years at the track and in garages around loud cars and my love for going to concerts and being right by the speakers plus my years of shooting guns I have a nice case of selective hearing lol.
Thanks for the great footage! Most of the time videos taken from the bleachers or the starting line or Finish Line, show way more of the power, speed and acceleration. Videos like yours bring more eyes to this great sport!!!!! 🤘🏻
For anyone who has never been to the drag races, you need to go. Get pit passes when you go. Best experience on the planet. Especially if you get to watch jet cars. These cars are so loud that the ground and the entire bleachers shake.
I had the privilege to shoot both Top Fuel and Funny car right at the starting line, just over the wall. Needless to say, the percussion in my chest was unreal, not to mention my teeth vibrated as well. My ear plugs were the best in the business, and thankfully my camera and lens held up to the 150 decibels of 2, 11,000 horsepower dragsters, pulling 8g's in a second when the light turns green! Wow!
There is some really interesting videos that describe what happens to these machines throughout the race on a mechanical level. It's unbelievable that they don't literally explode off the line from the extreme power transfer.
They are diesel engines by the end of the run since the spark plugs are melted by that point. The clutch plates weld themselves together. Basically every moving part is destroyed each run.
Its been over a year since ive seen this still mind blowing. The comment made hear too, i wouldn't dought that one bit, one run and everything melted, I've heard after one run, they pull the entire motor apart and rebuild the whole lot, carry sport and mind boggling
I have enjoyed National events many times and have introduced several people to the pure exhilaration of top fuel cars. There is nothing like them in any sport. I can only hope that things get back to normal sometime in the near future where we can enjoy these thing (all things) again.
Yeah buddy.......lost our race this year. Moved it 13 1/2 months from last year and now nothing. Another 13 1/2 months till 2021. Could travel to Reading....8hrs from where I am.
No, you need at least 100W of quality sound into the biggest speakers you can fit in your living room. It helps to live a bit away from your neighbours, too.
Hi from UK Loved this Sport from late 70s. U Can't beat it . Shame its not 1/4 mile anymore .The Speed they Go . its OVER 2 Soon . Great Vid .As We Now do not get this on UK TV ???
Can remember when they were trying too set to the 260 mph mark . Too see a 300 mph plus set , is just , just , and with a regularity , almost unbelievable .
I've been to many NHRA venues in the past 45yrs. From the Prudhome era thru Sox&Martin, Grumpy Genkins, Don Garlits, Shirley....so many others. We've seen horrific devastation and lives taken. With defeat comes safety. Development in the way these machines are heavily protected now shows how much these men are determined to conquer that 1000ft of real estate in less than 3.5 sec. I've support the NHRA for all the sacrifices these warriors go through at each event. It's worth every penny I've spent over the years.
I enjoy going to the winternationals. Every other year, and taking my Grandkids they love& enjoy it as much as i do. Such beautiful machines with such power & speed and the people who build. Them.😃😀😛😜
OMG!! FLASHBACK!! The blonde track girl at 00:55 takes me back to the days of the original Ms. Hurst, Linda Vaughn! Great to see the sport still has its priorities!! Oh, uhhh...and the cars are great too...
There's absolutely no other sport on earth as AWSOME as top fuel dragsters and funny cars. You can be sitting 10 rows up and every muscle on your body feels the AWSOME power
Excllent video, TY for sharing. It is incredible that the GOAT, John Force is still piloting these monsters, handling the incredible G forces at his age isn't it. These machines truely do STOP Mother Earth's rotation when those M&H's grab her surface for a 3.79/333mph dash for 1000 feet!
Sorry to be the fly in the ointment but seriously every frickin car is running a modified hemi. How is this racing? The teams with the most money who can afford the best driver win. Whooooo hoooo who would beleive that. Same reason nasscar sucks. I want to see Men with ingenuity and grit who can build a car with blood sweat and tears. Not a corporate sponsored team that gets to go to disney world for getting the best support money can buy. Give me a brake. 😄
What sort of brake? Like a hand brake, or a foot brake? Just a brake shoe, perhaps? I've got some laying around. Oh, and top fuel is still awesome even though you dont understand it. It's all about the best of the best of everything engine building, chassis setup and the forever search for how to put that power to the ground. That and the fact that a mere mortal like myself would most likely black out from the g forces created off the line.
david duncan true it takes cubic dollars to run these but as a crew chief there is far more knowledge and talent than just money and a driver. We run promod which isn’t the same as top fuel but there are crossovers, we are pitted right next to them all the time and often they come over to check out our little race team. They are often amazed that we do what we do with the limited dollars and crew. It takes enormous amounts of money for top fuel and it is an addiction.
Yes trust me I grew up 1 mile from the dragstrip and have chatted with the greats. I understand what makes these 11,000+ horsepower get down the track and all the safety improvements. I also understand the hard work and dedication the teams and drivers have. These are rolling gernades and driving or working on them you litterly risk your life. With that being said God bless everyone who is involved with putting on one of the most excitting experiances you will ever have. Now how about a new class of old school Type raceing. No holds bar! First accross the finish line wins. Run what u brung. That helps create alot bragging between racers, and how I love great stories. 😄
You think it's just the driver that gets a team the Wally? You need to do a little more research. The driver doesn't decide on the clutch setup, timing advance, or a number of other factors. Winning cars have winning TEAMS.
Need to invite Greta. Me: so Greta how do you like those cars Greta: how dare you😲😵😭😡 Me: what's that? You can't hear me😂 Greta: no, I said how dare you😡 Me: I know, it's loud, it's difficult to hear anyone with all that American muscle on the track🇺🇸💪👍gotta love that nitro Greta: I don't like any of it😡 Me: you want to see more of it? No problem, the racing will last for another 4 hours. I knew you'd like it, you were just in denial🇺🇸💪👍😂
For me this is the local track. Look at the speeds they are getting on that track. It's my belief that was the fastest track on the circuit. Flat, smooth, and good grip. It was shut down during covid protocol. It hasn't reopened since. There is one hell of a huge unanswered question there.
Videos never do these justice. Everyone should go see a race like this at least once. It's the loudest, most powerful thing you'll ever hear. Only MAYBE a space rocket launch might come close. Even a military air show isn't as loud....all the Blue Angels together could fly by on afterburner, and you wouldn't hear them over 2 Funny Cars.
The Supercharger on these could eat both turbos off those street outlaw cars and still have room for a nitrous kit or 2 ;) These rattle every bone and organ in your body when they are set free. The next county over can hear them also.
I know what a 2000hp car feels like from the side of the strip, I could only imagine the experience. Definitely plan on seeing some funny cars/top fuel cars in my life
I have been to the Rt. 66 drag strip several times. I love to get my nitro fix there when I can but that was a few years ago. But for some reason almost every time the NHRA is there, there is a very severe storm. They even had a tornado touch down very close to the track. It was shown on ESPN.
@@AutoMotoCha9L It really is a very nice drag strip but I am only interested in my once a year nitro fix when I can get there. I have been to Indy for the U.S. Nationals a couple of times but that was several years ago. I wanted to go to the drag strip where you can go underneath it but never was able to.
The trick is to apply the horsepower to the tires in a fashon that does not cause loss of adhesion to the racing surface. Once the tires lose their grip acceleration is lost. Sounds simple.... Its not.
It seems like it's at the point now where the sport needs a completely new tire design in order to get any lower times. Maybe some sort of internal structure that would prevent the tire from ballooning up due to the huge rotational forces.
Just awesome to see 11000 horse power rip I've felt 5 and 6 thousand horse power Top flule cars vibration thru me but 11000 put your drink down before that thing rips great to watch but
It actually takes a top fuel dragster twice as long to hit 100 mph 0.8s as it took sammy Miller's car 0.4s. A reciprocating engine can not compete with a rocket.
