Probably the best in car video, with explanations, I remember seeing. Brings together much of what y’all have described previously. Seeing Clay acknowledge everyone, before getting into the car, makes me think, it’s probably part of his own mental checklist, and his recognition of the importance of everyone on the team, for the part they play. Reminded me of launching aircraft, in the military.

Great opening salvo for sure. It just blows my mind how much power those engines produce and the quickness and speed these cars achieve. The technology today to be able to put the power to the pavement is fantastic. The evolution over 70+ years is pretty amazing.👍👍🇨🇦

My brain is in overdrive trying to figure out if clay was racing when I use to watch NHRA in my teens and early 20’s (34 now). I mainly watched for the funny cars and still am a John force fan. Didn’t have a tv for almost 15 years, just worked so much I didn’t have time, then stumbled onto RU-vid on my phone long time ago and seen a giraffe with a white corvette and weather balloons and exhaust whistles and been stuck ever since 😂 if ya know, ya know

How clay gets his brass balls into that cockpit. I never knew how tight it was in those dragsters. God forbid a crash would happen clay could never get out of there in a hurry. But I'm sure they have guys down the track already for that if it was to happen so they could get him out as fast as possible

For reference: Mike Salinas' 300mph to the 1/8 pass was .842 to 60' and 2.091 to 330. 2.936 at 300.80. I firmly believe that Clay would have been the second person ever to 300 in the 1/8 mile had he stuck with it. That car was aggressive as all shit though. .828 60' is absolutely unheard of. The rest of that timeslip would have been absolutely incredible.

Thanks for the info. New top fuel watcher here from way overseas. Something puzzles me. Can you explain how the cars only accelerate another 30mph or so through the second half of the track?

@@HighMaintenancePS The cars are already moving so fast that they cover the back half of the track (660 feet to 1000 feet) in well under a second. If they were still racing to the quarter mile, we would have seen 340 in 2016 when Robert Hight went 337.66 in Topeka.

It is worth it. The experience in real life is indescribable to someone who hasn't been. You have to live it, to understand the thumbing of these engines from hundreds of feet away of your body, breathing nitro and having up close access to a team of professionals rebuilding a hot car in 30-45 minutes.

I wonder what a 360° camera mounted on the wheelie bar or the wing could capture. Especially on an extended mount. I've seen a couple 360° videos of dragsters, but they're kinda lower quality.
