FYI… with so much wrong info about this in the comments… here are the REAL facts. This was American player Wesley Bryan, playing the BMW Championship as part of the 2017 FedEx Cup. His playing partner, Danny Lee, had to withdraw due to a wrist injury the day before so Bryan was left playing alone. He had no chance of qualifying for the East Lake game the following week, so he decided to take a shot at the speed record. He finished the round in 1 hour and 29 minutes, shot a 2 under par round of 69 (birdying the 18th) and secured the record. There you go!

Since the video gave absolutely no context, let me explain why this happened. It had nothing to do with a flight time. This is Wesley Bryan, playing his last round of golf for the 2016-2017 season. He was so far down in the rankings that it would be impossible for him to qualify for the Tour Championship at this point. He had the first tee time of the day and his partner, Danny Lee, that was supposed to play the 18-holes with him had withdrawn from the event so Wesley was playing solo. Wesley wasn't playing well this tourney and was +6 after 3 rounds, so this round really didn't matter for him. He was interviewed after and said that he woke up and decided he was just going to have fun and play a quick game. However, after hole 6 he thought why not keep the crazy pace. Once he got to the back 9, he realized that it might be possible to finish under an hour and a half, so he decided to go for it. His final time was 88 minutes. This is an unofficial record only because the PGA doesn't keep track of the fastest times, but it is definitely the fastest. The average time to finish a round in the pros is 4 - 4.5 hours and this was less than 1.5 hours. Not only that, but this ended up being Wesley's best round of the tourney. He got 14 pars, 3 birdies, and only one bogey. The craziest stat that I saw was when someone did the math on how far he had to walk and realized that he essentially played 18 holes while running 13.5 minute miles. That's nuts!

I do not play alot of golf but from what I've learned playing other sports and golf, I feel golfers take toi much time occasionally or maybe often ?, and over think and possibly psyche themselves out.....I've hit thousands of balls in my lifetime and the best ball strikes ever were the ones that I didnt take too much time on. Not saying speed golf or this pace is better, but I do realize some thinking and analyzing is needed for this game.

Sometimes when you play with a guy whose slow you can still push him to pickup the pace. We always play ready golf and on the green, regardless of distance, I would putt right away and finish up. While he’s still reading the break I’m headed to the next tee box prepare or tee off right away. I would do this until we are in pace with the group ahead. Our golf round is 3.8 hrs walking with this method or 4.5 walking if I don’t speedup the group.

About the halfway point between Wesley’s pace shown here and the actual pace of play on Tour is ideal, and should be Standard, with shot clocks and penalties, with few exceptions. Then it’s more watchable. Scores would be no different. Players would adapt quickly. And many of them actually want it. Far less mentally grueling rounds. If not, fewer will watch the Tours, and watch channels such as Wesley’s and other influencers instead. Mark my words. Your welcome. Thank you, Wesley
