Highlights from Jim Furyk's historic 58 at Travelers Championship

Self taught. His only swing coach ever was his dad. Two finger overhand grip. An American original. And humble as apple pie. Probably had his swing commented on in just about every tournament he ever played. My PGA hero .Miss you Jim. PS And who couldn't love that walrus mustached caddie. Miss you too Mike.

Not young Not ripped Does not have a pretty swing Does not hit moon balls that go 320-330 Just proof that all you have to be is consistent to be good.

Whats even more scary is that he left a few shots out there.

The other record I forgot about was that Furyk is now the first golfer ever to card two rounds under 60. Greatness

I shot a 58 last week...big deal. But then I had to play the back 9 also.

Helps when you hit every single fairway. This guy's accuracy off the tee is incredible.

You know, I'd never seen this round till just now (though I'd heard about it of course) but he made some unbelievable long putts and barely misses a few others. He almost shot 55 or 56. What a stellar round of golf.

Crazy that that 58 had a lip out from 6 feet and a almost straight 10 footer he missed. Furyk is the only player with 2 sub 60 rounds on tour. And his 59 had a bogey in it!

Should have really shown the highlights from the Front 9... 27 at the turn is incredible

Shoots the lowest round in PGA tour history....despite messing up 3 holes in a row that he should have birdied. 55/56 was on the table. Golf is nuts

What's crazy is that it could have easily been a 55 or even better.

Only difference between this and many of his rounds is he made the putts! Drive for show , putt for doe!

I was there that day, my wife won tickets on the radio it was my first pga tour event and he goes and does something like this....58 really?! It was an honor to watch that back nine Jim!

I always figured if someone shot a 58 they'd have one hole in one. If Furyk had luck on his side 100% he'd have shot a 55 which is insane to think of.

And he missed three putts for birdie too! He could have shot 55.

58 is amazing and is even better than a 60 on a par 72 because there are 2 less par 5’s to play which are normally the easiest birdie holes

Christ, that was an "easy" 58. He pared a par 5, horseshoed one, and had a real good look on another just on the back.

Just goes to show that its not always about the young guys.

Here's the deal. Furyk shot a 12 under par 58 on a par 70 course. Awesome. Some here say not awesome because a few others have gone 13 under on a par 72 course. Ok. Let's just say the course designers hypothetically said two of those par 4's Were really difficult enough to be par 5's and then the PGA suits made them par 5's. Now they tell Furyk, hey, those two birdies you made were really eagles and you really shot a 14 under 58. Furyk without changing anything he did just became awesome to those that thought 12 under was not. Case closed.

That's the equivalent of shooting an 870 or 880 series in bowling. Just insane

I was in attendance this day in Cromwell Connecticut and between the few holes I followed him on and the video Ive seen this round absolutely could an maybe should have been a 55-56. More so than a 60 thats for sure. He would say he left 2 shots out there that day, both with the short stick.

This is proof that good approach shots beats long drives. This guy was very consistent with his approach shots.

Great example of smart course management. Set up to play to your strengths rather than looking to bomb it at every opportunity.

I shot a 58 once, I don’t see what the big deal is..the only difference is that I had 17 holes left.

DANG IT....I missed some live history being made by one of my favorite golfers... Jim Furyk is a class act...

Man his caddy must be in great shape for his age. Lugging all that around is a chore.

Sure. Its a par 70. Do you know how many people on the PGA tour have played on a par 70 in its history? An absurd amount of rounds you probably never count in your life. And even though you may not think its the lowest round in history, its still absolutely the lowest round on a par 70 in history which is still absurdly impressive. A par 70 also means there are more par 3s which are the hardest pars in golf to score on. Just think about this, there were about 150 payers in the field. Half of them played two rounds (75*2) and the other half played four rounds (75*4). Add them up and thats 450 rounds approximately. Think about how many tournaments and oppourtunities there were in the history of the PGA tour to shoot 58. And this is the only time its been done. So many rounds in just one week and there are 52 weeks in a year, over 100 years of golf and this is the single lowest round in PGA TOUR HISTORY.

He shot a 58 and probably should have shot 56 or 55. Simply amazing and he's shot 59 twice in tour

I played the Florida mini-tours in the early 90s, and also earned a spot in the '93 PGA tour qualifying school. I shot 58 in a practice round. It was truly amazing. I got a spiritual/mental feeling with the putter that day, that I never got again. My technique was perfect, and my stroke was so smooth and balanced. I made 2 eagles and 8 birdies. I never putted like that again. It was a very interesting once in a lifetime experience. Furyk was so great to shoot 58 on tour. He will greatly enjoy that the rest of his life.

And to think he lipped out a couple that would’ve been a 55

On one accasion I shot 17 under my 27 handicap and felt mentally, that I could have done anything on the course that day, playing many levels above my capability. Jim has shown too, how much the game is "mental", by literally having the ball on a string and playing "outside himself". We golfers all experience this at one stage and it is fascinating as to why this appears not to repeat itself on the next immediate game. Unless your name is Tiger.

unbelievableround but duval had 13 under 59 -and didnt hole a put outside 10ft, wasnt hitting wedges in and won the tournament! Duval played the greatest round ever played.

Yep, one of the greatest golfers, happy to share the name! 'tis the reason why I chose to watch him in particular as a kid lol, made the right choice cuz the guy ends up winning the Fed Ex Cup and player of the year a few years later XD lol

Everybody should aspire to play like this man. We might not get the same results but it's a thing of beauty watching this man hit the fairway and attack the pin. Simple and effective.

He doesn't hit it long,not the most elegant swing.It just goes to show it,s not how,it,s how many.That round was incredible.

funny i was talkin swing thoughts on the course recently & how the swing look has nothing 2 do with the result & jim was mentioned as a great player who stuck with his own swing,despite all the advice & flew high with it!go jimmy!

I had the pleasure of walking Colonial with Mr. Furyk, years back,while being a caddy for an AM during pro/am. One of the nicest guys on the tour for sure.

I honestly watch this video like once a month, and that one horshoe missed putt sucked. Literally like six inches before the cup, the ball just breaks right and he narrowly missed. Could've a 57.

Read all the sad hater comments in this thread. Just to put in perspective: 58 on the PGA tour has only happened once - Furyk. 59 on the PGA tour has only happened 5 times - Furyk is one of them. Now Major League baseball. 4 Home runs in a game is the most all time - Been done 18 times. Perfect games? 23 times by 23 different pitchers. Positively PEDESTRIAN. NBA - 100 points in a game - ONCE by Wilt The Stilt. NFL - 2 safeties in one game by Fred Dryer - never equaled 2000 yard rushers - 7 different players 99 yard rush from scrimmage - twice ever Furyk holds arguably the most distinguished single round/game/match record in history and he did it TWICE.

I know last year there was a string of record breaking birdies but this is not that easy of a course.

And just to think he could have shot 56 with a little luck on that par 5, and coming up a tat short on 18. Amazing. Congratulations to Jim Furyk!

Goes to show what a brutal game golf is. These shots didn't even look great...had a ton of missed strokes and still took the record. WILD

Crazy to think he's gone sub-60 twice now and still didn't win either event or join "-13 club". Great ball-striker, who could've gone lower both times. The difference between Furyk's score and the 'field average' on the day of his 59 round was the largest on record AFAIK.

Wow....Mr .Jim Furyk proves the look of a swing as measure of performance is grossly exaggerated....58 , the lowest score ever by a touring professional player....What is scary is that his best score before this was a 59....

Does anybody remember commercial of two golfers in an elevator? Both of them pushed numbers of the floors going from 72 to 59 on which they stopped, because it's concidered to be pretty impossible to score better than 59. I guess it's impossible for some but not for Jim.
