@@oddsandwindsocks5905 Marlene Ottey is one of my favourite sprinter of all time, she managed to race amongst the best in the world for 24 years straight, winning 9 medals in 5 different olympic games and she is ranked fourth on the all-time list over 60m. A true legend.
Very nice, except that it is obvious thaY=t Flo Jo's 10.49 was a fluke, which is well known, since the wind gauge malfunctioned. Flo Jo's best legal-wind time was 10.61 in the Indianapolis trials final, a WR at the time, but only until 2021. Thus, the actual top-3 list should be : 10.54, 10.60 and 10.61.
As for the world record, rather than doping I honestly believe it was more to do with the wind speed on the day and faulty equipment meaning the record stuck. The airspeed was measured as 0.0m/s but it was visibly VERY windy. Many of the other runners on that same day also got CAREER bests by often as much as 0.3 seconds and never came close to it again. Her Olympic Record from 1988 is most likely her true pace and is the same as Thompson-Herah
Agreed, except she ran 10.61 in the US trials that year (slightly faster than the 10.62 OR). If that stood instead of the 10.49, she would have held the world record until 2021. So the rush to ratify the 10.49 was completely unnecessary. Another detail that should put to bed any arguments against the faulty wind gauge is that it actually read 0.00 m/s (not just 0.0). The probability of the wind being still to that level of precision is wildly low. The gauge most likely rebooted to factory settings.
Definitely agree even every expert agree the wind was way over the limit but I'm guessing because its the usa they won't let anyone do anything about it for me Thompson has the record
When IVET LALOVA achieved her time of 10.77 on June 19th, 2004 at a competition in Bulgaria, her last name was NOT yet COLLIO, because she wasn't married (yet.) It was almost a DECADE later in 2013 when she married Italian sprinter Simone Collio.

FloJo achieved those incredible times only during a time period of three months (June, July and August 1988). She was a good sprinter before with times around 11 seconds in 100m and 22 seconds in 200m. When it was announced that there will be random tests later in 1989, she retired.
It is so clear when the PED-period started in the mid-70's, systematically, and well into the early 90's. The Eastern block before China took over on long-distances and swimming. Flo-Jo ran with a strong tailwind and why is Marion Jones on this list still?
And some of those athletes were proven to be guilty. Just like athletes in the 90's, 2000's and today. But nearly 40 years later there has been nothing because there is nothing. Trust me, if the Olympics are willing to bring down Carl Lewis, Lance Armstrong and Marion Jones for doping, they would have no issues bringing down Flo-Jo if the allegations were true.
Ottey came on the radar winning bronze in 200m in 1980 and lasted until 2000 winning 100m bronze and barely missed the 2004 final by 0.01 sec. Thats 7 Olympics being competitive. No other woman has had such longevity
@@RJ12347 there is plenty of evidence out there. Pretty much every neutral observer agrees that it was clearly windy, the triple jump beside the track had significant tail wind readings around that time. The wind reading given for that race was 0.0, which is incredibly rare even on a still day, then the following race also had a 0.0 reading. The officials claimed that the wind was swirling, but the odds of a swirling wind giving two 0.0 readings in a row is so close to zero it might as well be impossible. Then there were the other athletes in the race. Many of them achieved lifetime bests that were far beyond any other times they ran. That race was a quarter-final, and everyone who progressed ran significantly slower times in the semi-final (when the times should have been faster). Flo-Jo herself ran 10.61 in the final, which should have been the legitimate world record until ETH broke it.
@@HamishGarland Wind assisted or not, she is the is officially the fastest 100m woman sprinter of all time according to World Athletics, if they decide to nullify her time in the future I will remove her from the video.
There're a couple of suspicious ones at the top of that final list... Stunning to see all those East German athletes posting times in the late 70s, too. Extraordinary coincidence!
1:50 Marlies Oelsner = Marlies Göhr She got married and her surname changed. By the way, Marlies Oelsner is the only U20 athlte ever who broke a senior World Record.
I wonder when Griffith-Joyner's record will be broken; it's such a longstanding record that I've given up hope of seeing it happen in my lifetime, and I'm not an old guy.

@TheHuskyK9 She spent her life being second best, then took tenths off her PBs in a year and a half. Bolt was a genetic freak who clearly had FAR more to give than everyone else.
@@WestCoastWilliam don't forget she took a 4 year layoff to help her family and was basically working only to come back in 88 with more muscle mass which she attributed to her "new training weigh lifting regiment", 4 year layoff to an Olympic year to smash her PB by tenths😂😂😂😂 and let's not forget 88 Olympics was a steroid rush with the Russians, Germans and Americans juicing to the gills more than anyone else, ay man idk how we can't even be a little suspicious ( super euphemism btw).

Based on the comments it seems that Jamaicans are still hurting over the Paris Olympics. No sprint golds, athletes just quitting or dropping out. It’s going to be a long four years for 🇯🇲. Get over it. You just aren’t what you used to be and that’s okay.
Strange that pole vaulter Armand Duplantis just an hour ago, beat all the best times by women, by running 10:37. I mean women always say they're equal to or better than men! Strange that Mondo beat the women's world record if they're eqal?!
Flo Jo had the perfect technique. Her records were analyzed so many times. You can't justify that with wind aid or doping. She was the greatest female sprinter with an unmatched by any male or female technique to this day. It is possible to beat her records. You just have to be really good.
