Fat Day in Cyprus 

My routine in Cyprus includes a walk to my fave coffee shop. They have work stations there designed for people like me. Powerpoint and wifi.
I pass a potters shop, hairdresser, florist and recruitment place on the way. On this particular day all the business owners were out on the street having a party.
As I walked past, my acquaintance from the potters shop called me over, a lady thrust a beer in my hand (I used to call him Harry because I didn't know his name). I sat with my new friends and broke bread, well, to be honest, I had just eaten.
It was Tsiknopempti day (Fat Day) The final feast before fasting.
This was the day to over do it before the long drought.
I ADORE these traditions! In 10 days it becomes "Clean Day" and on this occasion all the neighborhoods fly kites. Nobody could explain why, but thats what everyone does.
What an absolute treat and honor to be included in this festivity.
