Mike is a genuinely nice dude but sometimes he's too in character and people don't pick up on his dark humor. Stop trying to take him or what he says seriously. Just enjoy the show.
@@galleryofrogues I consider myself to be a pretty empathetic person who strives to consider how other people will take my humor or commentary before I speak (esp. if they don't know me well) and I find Fat Mike to be refreshing and wise behind his snarkyness.
@Old man old comment I know, but telling people to grow up just makes clear you are sour and joyless, I genuinely believe that. It's not unprofessional to be happy you know... Why can't people live the way they like, without some prick having to pass judgement?
I cant stand people like Rollins. So afraid that someone might think hes not tough. So hes gotta pick fights with people. My good friend was always the guy to get in the face of the tough guys and put them out on their ass. And then they were even more embarrassed when they found out they just got manhandled by a gay man lmfao i love it!
@Frank DeFalco granted, by the use of the word "derp " you're in kindergarten, but the fact that Mike and Artie have been on and off drugs, like most artists, has about as much to do with the reason I like them as the color of their hair does
@@Justcarlosdiaz Why does everybody equate punk with asshole? My neighborhood in Pittsburgh is chock full of punks and 99 percent are the nicest people.
@That Flippin Guy no it's not marketing he's been like that from the beginning since '89. I guarantee that he would be exactly the same way if you had a drink with him and not even knowing who he is.
That Flippin Guy Did you just learn about marketing techniques and decided they applied to this guy because he says edgy shit? Like he has his entire life.
I used to be a massive hardcore punk fan, now it's been like 15 years that I "gave it up" and started listening to completely different music. The only punk band I still love is nofx (well OF COURSE the mighty bad brains too). when it comes to nofx i just can't help but keeping up with what they are doing, listening to their new songs, looking for interviews. and fat mike... i just love the guy!
You "gave it up" - You can't give a lifestyle up so were always an outsider looking in. Music now, sucks dog shit that's been thawing out over the spring so you gave it up for bitch boy drake and the weeknd. Props
@@Popskull_666 ahahah!! wow that's a really specific picture you get from the sentence "I gave it up"! I never said I was following punk as a lifestyle anyway, I only said I was a fan of the music. Thank god we have true punks like you correcting people on RU-vid and putting phonies like me back to our place.
Saw NOFX this summer in a french festival. It was great and I laughed a lot. Fat Mike is a true punk, dirty annoying and provocative. But he's definitely not an idiot.
Fat Mike is pretty funny. I like him and i love NOFX. He help so many bands with Fat Wreck Chords. People have an easy judgement about him but he's a nice person!
Me and my homie were riding around smoking some blunts in Fort Worth right before Punk in Drublic fest. On our way to store to pick up some brews we saw Fat Mike riding around in his bike with his mohawk up and in a dress. My homie just released their first studio album. He claws at my door and chases down fat mike on foot to hand him a copy of his album. I think the best part about that day was my homie had an expired ID. He had a plus one to get me in. So we're pretty much fucked at that point trying to get into the fest. We go down to office depot. I'm waiting in the car for 20 mins. I walk in and I hear the chick from behind the counter say please don't tell my boss I let you do this. Homeboy has photoshopped his ID, scanned the old, modiefied it, printed it once, forged a fake signature, scanned it and printed it again. And the same exact security we saw bought into it xD
That Flippin Guy you do seem like the kind of toolbag to stupidly bring up Urban Outfitters or Hot Topic lol never been to either of those awful places. Glad I could take you back a couple years ass clown
I had no idea that Cometbus is still alive and kicking as a zine. I used to read it back in the 90's. I am going to pick up a couple of issues now. Thanks, Amoeba!
@@nicholasmontoto9346 Lol. I always expect someone with an opinion like that. Anyway i never thought punk was about being top, high in ranks or caring about the tastes of anyone.
@@nicholasmontoto9346 by the way everybody who says nofx or green day is not punk for the music thay made usually never question if ramones or the clash are punk for exactly the same reason. Anyway i dont care. My musical tastes are probably wider than anyone you know.
@@666gorewhore he is still a functional adult and music producer. I think he is being weird in the last years, with his hobby of trying drugs and bdsm. I hope his 40s crisis ends up and he goes back to focus on making greater records like nofx used to.
@@olitraiga Socrates throwing shade like bitch tell me what you know, cuz all i know is shit. All I know is that I don't knooow. All I know is that I don't know nuthin'. Weeeee get told to decide, just like. As if. I'm not gonna change my mind. This time I got it all figured out. And that's. That's fine.
It’s not weird at all. You see one comment was meant to be shocking to an audience he was performing for. And the other comment was sincere. There are these things called “jokes”.
Helped so many bands and encouraged bands to cross the line between independent | mainstream if that's what they really wanted. For example, blink-182. This man is such a joy, a national treasure.
Henry and Glenn forever has to be one of the funniest shit ever. Those two macho guys, both not married, LMAO. PS. Love Henry Rollins, hate his music tho, from Black Flag all the way up to this day Hate Glenn Danzig, love his music tho, from the Misfits all the way up to late 90s
I like how in those comics, Rollins is consistently drawn to be larger, more muscular and more brutish looking than Glenn even though Rollins was only jacked for a short period of time. That cover had me in tears.
I can tell that I could only hang around this dude for a few hours at a time before I couldn't stand him anymore. Lol... I know several people like that and I always think it will be different this time around.
rome8180 I’ll admit that “Real artist” is a pretty subjective term to begin with but a dude that plays in a whiny pop punk band barely has artistic merit lol .
Robert Craig I believe you . And don’t get me wrong there’s a time and a place for some whiny/fun pop punk . But if you want to throw around the term “real artist” you can go a lot deeper than NOFX . Maybe you don’t want to dig deeper and that’s cool too but circling back to the original comment, there are far better artists with far better personalities than this dude lol
@@nicholasmontoto9346 to each their own. But I think that between '91 and '99, they put out some of the best punk records ever made. Super clever lyrics, complex music with unique chord progressions, etc. I really don't think the characterization as "whiny pop punk" is fair. Besides maybe Bad Religion, they're the most melodic and intelligent punk band. They also spawned a whole style through their record label. So yeah, I think he's an artist. Unfortunately, he's lost a lot of his inspiration in recent years.
"I have a dungeon... and the next time I have someone tied up there, I'm playing this for them." Why does this seem perfectly acceptable, from Fat Mike?
I remember seeing Run Lola Run in NYC when it debuted. We actually went to see The Blair Witch Project, but it was sold out. Run Lola Run turned out to be way better!
thnx amoeba for your series. i enjoy seeing/hearing other folks point of view. i take in what resonates with me and let go of rest. i clicked on your vid cause i was curious to find out what is in their bag. i'm not going to crap on them just because i don't agree with them...but i appreciate being able to have the option to click on ur vid and be exposed to a variety of personalities....so thnx.
Henry wants to beat everyone up. I’m not surprised if Henry just gets a glimpse of a random person he would try and fight him. But that’s why he’s great. I love that guy.
Again, I respect Mike's honesty and humor. No person can be expected to parallel another 100%. So I think people need to cut Mike some slack. There's an awful lot of crude judgement towards him or his music. I absolutely love the guy. He's a genius. And to be honest, hate me if you will, I thought that joke about the Vegas shooting was very funny. I laughed. I didn't laugh because people were hurt or killed. I wasn't laughing because country fans were the only ones impacted by the event. I laughed because the joke was unexpected and ahead of what society calls "the right time". It was a quick way to get some Shock from the audience and to Pat the punk fans on the back that were at that show. But everyone took it personal and through NoFx under the bus for it. It's really sad and pathetic.
He's proof that I could be the complete opposite of somebody in a lot of ways and absolutely love them as a soul, Just a f****** real one. Fat Mike is awesome, I laughed so hard at the Henry part
The Counterfeiters is a very good movie. It wasn't that popular in the US because it's in German/French with English subtitles. Anyone who enjoy's WWII movies shouldn't pass it up. Definitely in my top 3 favorite WWII movies next to Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List.
Woah! Cometbus, what a trip, I forgot about those, i have 46-48. I'm pretty sure I ordered them through lookout! before he stopped writing them for a couple years. I totally forgot bout those interesting little zines, and i used lookout! for 7inches and they would always send me extra stuff. Or I'd order something and the package would show up months later with handwritten notes saying, sorry we don't have anymore of those... heres this instead.
@@Nantosuelta there are a lot of different genres. Are you like a causalities kid or something? Madball or cromags? Bad brains, Fugazi, infest, fear, etc... all punk to me.
Yeah fairly hypocritical - I'm fine with the joke, just dont feign empathy for victims then. Cant have it both ways. (Unless you're in his dungeon!). But even the bands who were on stage for those slaughters handled it differently: Ironically, the Eagles front man is like a SUPER pro-gun jackass, (I dont even feel that thats subjective after the shit he publicly says), with a "the only way to stop gun violence is with everyone having guns" mentality; [www.theguardian.com/world/2016/feb/16/eagles-of-death-metal-frontman]; - but yeah he came down hard the past few years after the shooting, even slamming peaceful anti-violence protests.: [www.theguardian.com/music/2018/mar/26/eagles-of-death-metal-jesse-hughes-march-for-our-lives-bataclan]; kind of odd for a punk. -- then in the USA we have the Las Vegas shooting - where there were plenty of guns - literally armed cops at the event, even the band had rifles and guns in their bus. But still couldn't do anything. Ironically Caleb Keeter the guitarist on stage who had a gun in the bus and always defended guns, literally believing "having guns was a necessity" - that night said he was changing his tune and giving up his guns, the only way to stop that shooting wasn't other guns, it was no guns; kind of odd for a country guy. [www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/oct/02/las-vegas-gun-control-caleb-keeter-josh-abbott-band] So the concert shootings made one guy want more guns, the other to get rid of guns. Just shows how different we all are I guess. How we handle stress or make ourselves feel safe.
@@squidracerX one things for sure - the 9 terrorists who carried out those paris attacks would have wiped out a group of anti violence protestors with ease
They didn’t get banned from playing in the US, dude. 😆The government can’t ban artists. But businesses can choose to not work with you. That’s businesses using their own freedom.
