WESTLAKE DISTRICT - One person is dead and two others are in the hospital after they were shot in the Westlake District Saturday night. The shooting happened within 30 minutes of another shooting on the 400 block of South Rampart. Two people were shot there. Nearby, a man was stabbed after someone approached him and asked him a question, this according to a paramedic. It is unclear if all the incidents are related. A sergeant allowed our crew beyond the crime scene after saying, "Come inside and record all this. I want everyone to see the consequences of being in a gang." The victim killed is believed to be a woman. The other two victims are men.

This is horrible viloence. Wish there were a peace treaty and everyone got along and helped each other work, make money, and support their familys, and teach raise the younger generation to evolve into someone special in life who helps others not kills others. Remember we are all in this as one, created as one as flesh blood and bone. Do the rite thing and you shall cherish and live a lush happy life style! Shit like this is why CA needs to go back to being a red state. Getting so damn tired of all this trash. I've grown up in a neighborhood in LA similar to this one. The first friend I made when I moved there became a gang banger and is now in prison. 3 damn drivebys aimed at the house next to mine in the span of a year.

So I guess the integrity of the crime scene and "officer safety" is now at the discretion of individual officers ? That's good you got press access to show what LAPD wanted to show. How about when media wants to show something LAPD doesn't want you to show ? I am constantly lectured by LAPD about "respecting the privacy" of individuals involved in shootings or accidents. They used this excuse to infringe and obstruct free press. I guess LAPD changed their policy and now wants the family members of dead and dying people to be filmed and posted on the internet. Next time I film LAPD I am going to expect an open invitation into the active and unsecured crime scene.

I don't recall the section of the First Amendment that defined press the way that you just did. In fact, its the exact opposite. Free speech and free press rights were specifically designed so that opinions and thoughts were protected no matter their content. What you just described is the epitome of what the founding fathers wanted to avoid. They didn't want the government to sanction press that was favorable and prevent press that was unfavorable. Plus, every major "real press" outlet expresses opinions in their pieces however slight and often times extremely overt. Ever heard of the OPINION section of the LA Times, NY Times, Wall Street Journal etc.... ? A company like Loudlabs doesn't provide person thought or opinions in their videos....they sell the videos to a corporation that puts THEIR opinions and thoughts in and over the video. I guess that's what you call "real press".
