Some people call it their, "telephone voice," "White voice," or their, "courtroom voice," etc. but it's the same thing: sounding/appearing more bland and, "proper." Code switching isn't the same as just expressing different aspects of oneself; it's the intentional adoption of different personas in order to fit in, accompanied by actively downplaying or hiding other aspects of one's background & influences.
Yea and this does apply to white people as well. I still put on telephone voice or courtroom voice and drastically change my speech for that, but those voices are white-coded in american culture, so I'd imagine for POCs it's basically just sounding white. I naturally talk more loosely in my day to day life cus I wasn't raised prim and proper. My mom grew up in the hood so I picked up a decent amount of her own mannerisms also, so I definitely feel that we all code switch to a degree, it's just that certain codes are more racially oriented than not unfortunately. I've been told to act whiter than I do by people of other races and other white ppl, so I think u nailed it when u said it is about masking your background and influences

Drake’s challenged blackness has been less about heritage and more about culture. You can be dark skinned but culturally white and you can be lighter than light but the blackest person in the room. Unfortunately Drake was raised in a segregated white community by an all white family. He came into adulthood with a lot of anti blackness as many of us do coming out predominantly white communities. IMO some of that embedded anti blackness was shown on Family Matters.

Im biracial too and I feel you on code switching. But I think the point was not to code switch for personal gain to just be yourself.
