My mother suffered mild stoke last january 2022, till now she has difficulty sleeping. What should we do to help her improve her sleeping patterns? is it safe for her to take sleeping pills? Thank you

I wonder if the people who hand out this kind of advice realise how patronising and repetitive it becomes after a few years of seeking help for undiagnosed and untreated sleep disorders. The standard approach from doctors is to tell you that you're living your life wrong with no attempt to diagnose the actual problem. I've tried all this advice for years, none of it has any affect on my inability to fall asleep. And the idea of having a 'team' or getting any kind of rehab post-stroke is a bitterly unrealistic dream for most stroke survivors. I'm 5 years post-stroke and still haven't seen a neurologist or had any attempt made to diagnose my severe insomnia.

Would love to hear from an MD who has recovered from a stroke and has experienced this unusual fatigue. They tell you to go to sleep and take a rest well the ironic truth is you can’t rest and you’re not tired! And then at night you can’t sleep because you have incontinence or insomnia! Actually everything I look up so far tells you to rest when you have fatigue but what they’re not understanding is that you’re not tired you feel as though a magnet or a energy is pulling you down like a force which has nothing to do with rest or actually being tired. Which researchers in the year 2022 would study this phenomenon instead of putting it at the back burner and saying just rest you’ll get Get better! Add more insult to injury they tell you it’s depression and you should take drugs for your depression? How does this work if your neurons in neurologically your unsound how does the medicine know how to put you in the right mood or give you the right energy, this is laughable. Looking for answers lost in the abyss!
