A faulty Power On Off Switch that was intermittent causing interference and bulbs flickering on this Marantz Vintage Receiver.
This would be pretty much the same as replacing a Power Switch in an Amplifier.
Such as a Sansui, Rotel, Pioneer, Nad etc
I did try contact cleaner, but this switch is pretty much a sealed unit.
After making this video, I realized that I maybe should have done some footage of me unsoldering the switch as well, so I apologise for not doing so. But pretty straight forward with just 6 wires and 2 caps to be removed.
Just be careful not to burn any wire sleeving.
If you are unsure then be careful as you could do more damaged than good

Thanks for reminding me, I did forget to mention that the switch is pretty much a sealed unit, though I did give it a good go with contact cleaner, but to no avail.

Hi sir, it's really a good presentation video. And do you have the type name or model name of this new power switch? I bought a new one from e-bay and it's only have 4 pins and don't know how to wired it. Thank you.

Hi, a 4 pin switch is no good , you need one like shown in video for this Receiver, eBay do have them but these are not cheap at £20 plus postage, link here or look for simular www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265383926275?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110013%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIMRXI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D250943%26meid%3D5e56a7e32e384f5eb63f10f2ac64d2d3%26pid%3D101196%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D7%26sd%3D403266090402%26itm%3D265383926275%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675%26algv%3DPromotedRVI%26brand%3DITT&_trksid=p2047675.c101196.m2219&amdata=cksum%3A2653839262755e56a7e32e384f5eb63f10f2ac64d2d3%7Cenc%3AAQAIAAAA4BFMeJ9vNoeV5R6diewUBS22B53h8Rise7Ex9bak3TZs6o%252B0Z%252F4yA%252BLe7DRHMYOHUD6CHEHZDoH4toT5RVJ4IU2XvHco4XunDYRWrI3Q93ypo6j2kzaaQPhaF64iomgZEANOa9duHupJtzbdh36AvRi5ufkdgyxRdbb6tLncNL2C5wvIu18F1fwYfMsJdAcU6JjNMXMv5ptYDyYCWwa%252F2zy%252FLVAqIS6CoscIjkX%252Fafa5XgkQggCSz9hfNM9EfoYg%252Br4roFYTCa1y1lyuPY4zKEzCmL1fV9qDPmOec%252Blw3k%252Fu%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2047675

I'm having the same flickering light issue on my 2216B. I took out my power switch and of course it would be different than yours. I've only got 4 wires going to my old switch. I wonder if's difference between US and Europe models? Anyways, thanks for posting!

Could well be a slight difference in the wiring between the US and Europe models on the power switch for some reason or an earlier and later revision of the model maybe

May I ask where you got that replacement switch?

I did get mine from a seller on eBay from Germany but I can not see any for sale on there now apart from sellers in the USA and you would need to take the silver mounting bracket off your old one and put it on the new one. They are not cheap here is a link to one for sale www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116042705476?chn=ps&_ul=GB&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=116042705476&targetid=2270718620845&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9045016&poi=&campaignid=20938568783&mkgroupid=160131055320&rlsatarget=pla-2270718620845&abcId=9367980&merchantid=110360246&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjww_iwBhApEiwAuG6ccMbGAFmLehkRM1dREkRsqUAzRmT5s8XiGC4050g4zUnQDeIb4HTnghoCt-QQAvD_BwE

@@MichaelYates Thanks. I think I've managed to solve this by gluing in the pins with hot glue in the position where the problem doesn't show up. I hope it holds up.

That is good hope it does the trick, but if it does not then investing in a new switch will save spikes in mains voltage and damage to the unit in the long run.

Hi, I am from Essex, but I am sorry I do not do any private repairs, as I still work and not a lot of time and room If the switch in the 2238bl is the same as this, which I think it is, I got mine from eBay, link here www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262844871162?hash=item3d32c671fa:g:vf0AAOSwWTRWzISM

@@MichaelYates thank you Michael..im only over the river in Gravesend !! my 2238 is also giving static through both channels after 20 mins or so when warmed up..!! will this be a power switch problem also or is it something different ? am looking for someone local to look at it for me really !!
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates 3 года назад
@@jo15518 I would have thought if it was the switch, that it could happen anytime, from turning on till a few hours, if it is after 20 mins or so and its warming up so to speak, it could well be a noisy component, transistor maybe, might be worth given "AH-Fix-It" a shout on RU-vid, he seems to do a lot of work on Marantz receivers and might know your receiver better.
