Hi and Welcome to my RU-vid Channel were I will mainly be covering Budget HiFi Audio
This will mainly include Vinatge HiFi

I will also be covering some simple repairs that a person with very little experience can do without getting to technical
and hopefully look at a few items you might not come across before on above items

Also for time to time I will be posting some random stuff that I think that is pretty good or some people might find interesting

Very helpful review i know don't like tge au2900 but how is the bass compared to these two amplifiers?
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates День назад
The bass was on par with the au2200, but the au101 bass has more punch and body a much better souning amp than the 2900. I still have the 101 in my collection its a good little amp. My 2900 was not that great at all, I sold it straight away, could be there was something a miss with it, but talking to a few others that I take notice of they said its one to pass by.

Chances are the shouty character is because the 4.7 uF capacitor on the tweeter has drifted off value.I have a pair here that measured 5.8uF and 5.6uF so too much upper midrange /lower treble would be going to the tweeter.Replacing them with metalized poly caps at exactly 4.7 improved the sound greatly.They sound very good and better than most modern stand mounts.

Hola como puedo regular la velocidad de un reel ...cuando grabo se pierde un canal
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates 5 дней назад

i did not feel these needed a sub at all, these should sound good on any old Sansui amp or receiver pre 80's, I also had these set up running on a Sony STR V3L receiver which worked well. Any amp with reasonal amount of bass punch will be fine. They are a livley sounded pair of speakers.

Thanks for the commet, cd's are so cheap at the moment 2nd hand, seen some charity shops 10 for a quid, most now 50p or £1, much better value than Vinyl. As long as they look clean, unlike a lot of 2nd hand records I have bought, look ok but when played crackles all over the place.

@@MichaelYates yes. Nothing against records, by the way, to each his own. I just think that following the trends mindlessly is not what we music lovers should support. I’ve owned a pair of these since about 1980. They sat unloved in a cupboard for many years as I moved on to greater things, but I recently purchased a WiiM Amp streamer and hooked these little Wharfdales up to it, along with a sub to help with the obvious lack of low down oomph that these tiny boxes could never be expected to deliver. Since 2 years I have 2 VHS tape recorders: one is for pal cassettes, and the 2nd one is for NTSC. I didn't buy CRT TV, it works fine with my Sony smart TV made in 2021. To make recordings, I need just a small white box attached converting HDMI signal from the satellite tuner into RCA. It's so much fun to make my own collection on tapes, in Europe there are available many free to watch channels showing things unavailable online. And frankly, as a true VHS fan, I don't give a heck about the 8k definition lack :P
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates 11 дней назад
You know what that sounds interesting, converting the HDMI of the Satellite Box to RCA for the input on the VCR and I suppose a RCA to HDMI to connect to the TV. Now I fancy some of that. Might have to get a VCR up and running. Thanks for the comment.

Hi Michael, it looks like a nice deck. JVC was a serious HiFi brand back then, specially with turntables. I have a Kenwood deck that I paid 7 Euro for on eBay. I bought it becasue it was so cheap, no one else was bidding. And it turns out it is working fine, though it was sold as un-tested. If you open it up it is a Toshiba inside. Any way, it also has headphones out without volume control. I totally not get that, specially if you can vary the line out. I would much rather have the opposite. They must have been smoking too much pod back then.

They are listed at £200+ now so I both got a bargain and clearly this era, even bottom end, is being valued and looked for. I know I could hear and buy better, but it's pretty darn good running quadraphonic, mainly vinyl in my small basement study / studio. I find it warm,, detailed and very reliable. The loudness switch adds bass and depth and my 180g vinyl reissues of Blue Note classics sound incredible through it (driving AE floor-standers and Roxel bookshelves running in parallel. I'm very happy with it as the body in my Frankenstein home hi-fi set up. Great vid BTW.

If I remember correctly, it cost a little over £100 at the time - just out of my price range, so I settled on the KD-A2 and had no regrets. JVC absolutely knocked it out of the park with the KD-A series. They sound great, they look good and they're well made. People are put off by the apparent lack of Dolby B, but ANRS is totally compatible (so much so that JVC ended up paying Dolby royalties anyway). Super ANRS is a different system altogether, more along the lines of dbx and Dolby C, and isn't compatible. Definitely a keeper!

Had mixed success with replacing belts. I managed it on a Panasonic portable cassette player and a JVC mini system I have but failed on 2 Panasonic boomboxes. The belts were actually wrong size. My Technics cassette deck has worked fine since buying it 2 years ago. This one here worked fine but as you mentioned, when recording first couple of times it sounded distorted. I never knew that about the switches, I would have used some contact cleaner. After a few recordings, it actually sounded quite good.

Some can be a nightmare on a lot of decks, at the time they did not think anyone would want to replace the belt 20 or so years later. They are so many parts that can wear out. A lot of technics decks have the same problem make a ticking or clicking sound when playing, its a plastic cog that has a split and it and can be very hard to get to.

Good advice, Michael. The vintage cassette player market is on fire at present. Never seen prices so high. Of all vintage equipment cassette players are most troublesome & fiddly to work on. Might just be undoing a few screws just a little bit and seeing if they free up the meter and seeing if the front comes off.
