My starter instant Locs grow faster when I put braids over them and it helps me keep my hand off my hair. My second set of Locs growing beautifully but I leave my braids in for two to three weeks . Spray with water every other day to keep my hair underneath the braids healthy.
I am 65 days loc'd I was contemplating putting in some jumbo box braids over my locs. This was helpful. The patience game is truly a journey and I am getting bored of it honestly. I've always braided my own hair so the cost isn't an issue for men I even did my own micro locs . I think I'll get a wig😂😂😂
I tend to agree. Just leave your locs alone, keep them groomed and twisted and clean, and watch your locs reward you with health, strength, and beauty. Locs don;t need to be in a "protective style"---they ARE the protective style! You don't want to pull and stress your locs at all., especially when they're babies.
@@vannessajohnson7304 I wash mine probably every month and deep condition with coconut milk and avocado. In between, I run a few suds through them in the shower every 5 days or so, and they stay clean and fresh. Air dry, NO heat. I don't use a lot of product in my hair as a rule. Locs aren't supposed to be shiny! Clean locs are healthy locs. Mine are 2 feet long and mature, maybe so they're not going to unravel anytime soon lol.
Thanks for this video. I have mature locs (8 years) and I am just looking for a change of pace so I contacted several stylists and I ended up going with someone who told me that knotless was the best for all the reasons you mentioned. She was so knowledgeable and it was really great to see your video aligned with what she said. I now feel confident getting it done!
A new thing I started to do was wash my braids regularly and I also oiled my hair like normal I recently got locs (100) and when I took my braids down I had zero of that gunk because I treated my braids as my hair. I do plan on wearing faux locs over my starter locs only for the color length and versatility but still keep the loc style.
Amen honey she’s absolutely correct but this is the exact type of comment I was looking for because I’m the same way I’m like we’re women no way I’m the only one washing them😩
I'm 7 months microloc'd - I bought faux microlocs with the intention to crochet them in...after this video I think I'm just going to do a ponytail. Thanks for the suggestions and tips Courtney!
I am 16months in and restarting my loc journey. I struggled with the ugly phase and braided over them, I regret it!! Locs are thinning at the root and have indentation as a result of the tension. I wish I saw this video before I got my braids in. Thanks for the information looking forward to my 2nd journey with more experience 😀
Good for you and best luck. Locs don't need protecting! Leave them alone and they'll do everything they're meant to be--long, strong, healthy. Be patient. Quit yearning for long hair and concentrate on the journey, and you will have locs that love you back!
Waiting for your locs to mature, I agree. Also stop using so much product. I wore crochet over my locs for two weeks. I made three french braids, little gel on the front of my hair, that's it. No problem with removing crochets or washing my locs. I do want to try knotless. I'm on my second set of locs, 4 years. First set of locs I had for seventeen years.
Hello 👋🏽 I’m new here! This is my 2nd or 3rd video of yours Ive come across, & you are the only 1 who has made me feel more confident & comfortable. I’ve decided to now start me & my kids loc journey. Thank you for all the REALNESS in advice! I can tell you are very passionate in your gift! I just subscribed! I’m here for all this❤️thanks goddess ❤
Different strokes for different folks. Some people don’t want to dye their locs and or can’t do certain styles based on the type that they have. Everyone will have their reasons. Focus on yourself & don’t be concerned with others.
On my second set had my first set 3 years.Im 4months in im loving this so called ugly phase. I can appreciate my locs all i need is baby hair and earrings and its perfect.
Yeaa I waited till my locs fully matured before I did my 2 strand twist. I love it so much. I don’t care for braids over my locs but I did a Regular 2 strand twist then added some Marley hair for more volume and length. I cleaned my hair really well and conditioned my locs prior to styling my hair. Also will continue to mist my hair daily so it doesn’t get dry. I’ll take them out in 3 weeks. Just needed something new. No weaves for over a yr? I mean I love it but everyone needs a change lol .
Im tryna do this with new locs, to hide th "ugly phase" for work, i cant wait till they mature but can take em doen every 2-3weeks as i can braid my own hair
This is my second set and I am.going on vacation and I don't want to worry about them will I am enjoying my vacation. I did purchase a large swim cap also
Thanks for the advice Courtney! I'm 21mths in and the shrinkage is making me miss my loose natural hair. I need a new look but want to protect my progress...
I appreciate this video. My birthday is in two weeks and I was going to try box braids but Nope! I had faux locs over my locs for a month when I was 3 months in and it helped my hair loc pretty good because I towel washed my scalp and sprayed the style with water. I didn't want faux locs but I think I mite do some crochet loose human hair or something crochet since it's lighter. Thanks again 💕
Question! I’m starting my locs and I’m curious about how you’d advise my wig moments… I love a good throw on curly synthetic number or a glueless install of a body wave “20, but I’m not sure how the under cap maintenance shifts with my locs… any guidance is appreciated😊
Thanks for the video. I have a quick question. I’ve had locs for two years and I use the interlocking methods…I know I’ll want braids over my locs for a summer vacay. Would you still suggest knotless for some who has interlocks. Ps they are sisterlocks or micros but they are in between small and medium
My daughter has starter locs. I'm thinking about putting box plaits over her locs because she's going with her dad for the summer and I know he's not going to take care of her hair, plus they will be going to the beach. She is 2 months in. She's 8 years old. What do you think? I'll take them out when she returns home.
I'm no expert, but im 16months in my loc journey and thinking of restarting my loc journey because braids damaged my locs. They have indentations and thining at the root 😓. Also I kept my braids in for like 3months which might be another reason for the damage.
I wouldn’t recommend it! I would say put it in a style and maybe get her and appointment out there? She may be doing a lot of tugging on her hair without even knowing, and she’d need to really tie her hair up every night. I say put her locs in a style, have someone take them out and wash after a month and braid them down again
I have really soft and fine hair and my loc retwists never hold and the hair at the roots grows out of the locs making them thing. I thought putting faux locs over them would make the retwist hold, is that a good idea?
I agree with Ms. Grayton. LEAVE YOUR LOCS ALONE! They'll be healthier and stronger. Long locs means you put in the time...if I could tell my sisters anything, it's to quit yearning for long locs and concentrate on strong locs.
what if i leave in the braids for 2-3 weeks? Im going into my senior year of high school and want to get my locs done now before i head to college (originally i wanted to wait until graduation next spring but im very busy this school year starting in 3 weeks so i want them now) I want to put in french curl braids for my senior photos but i will leave them in for 2 weeks because i know how to do my own hair. Will it make them break? i have fragile 4c hair
Bad idea . I put soft locs on my 7 month starter locs and the weight pull down some of my hair . I accumulate some dirts … my locs did not swell like when they were free. It slow down the process . si think it’s better to do this type of hair style when locs are mature
I'm thinking about putting soft locs over my starter locs, I will probably only keep them in for a fee days to a week or so, since I'll do them myself. I don't want any possibility of build up to occur in the starter locs🥲
I am about to do the same .. I’m not using any product just water and oil as I usually would. Soft locs should not need product. Avoid crochet and braiding over starter loc . There are ways to do them without so much manipulation
