The production values have really come into their own now - this show now feels like a proper educational piece of entertainment rather than a series of tutorials. You guys are knocking it out of the park, and your mini-docs on Freepour are also stellar, I can't wait for what's next! (Oh yeah, the drink is also awesome, I'm glad to finally have a proper, go-to Singapore Sling recipe, so thank you)!
Hey Leandro, Singapore native here! Have you thought about how you could combine Singapore's Singapore Sling and Malaysia's Jungle Bird to create the ultimate Southeast Asian cocktail? Take that as my challenge to you ;) Also, you should come visit when our borders finally open, happy to show you around and more than just the Long Bar!
I appreciate the excellent tasting notes and history. There are a couple bars here in San Francisco that have some vintage cocktail shaking machines similar to what you show in the clip. They of course don’t use them on the regular but they’re fun to see. Cheers
Your videos get better and better..! I had my first Singapore Sling at the Raffles in about '68, did not notice how they made it because I was shmoozing a lovely lady (hey, I was a Sailor!), but my first impression was less than positive, and I quickly reverted to my my usual scotch/water. It would be another year before a (lovelier) lady in Hong Kong converted me to gin/tonic for my breath quality. It's been a long journey but now I will drink anything, sadly...
One of my favorite drinks. I was thinking about making one last night. Now I’m definitely making them tonight. Also - I love the drink first, history second format. Well done!
I haven’t made one yet, but that will soon change. There’s something about seeing certain drinks being made that gets me over that hump. I’ll also be checking out Somebody Feed Phil-it’s been on my Netflix list.
Ooh this one is almost like the Difford's version. I like this combination of juices (and the inclusion of triple sec) a lot more than the "traditional" one some make with lemon juice.
Now the show is perfect! I would love to see your friend taste the cocktail too. Was nice to hear the reaction of someone who's not professional, it's really important to hear that, it's like having a customer opinion.
Nevermind. Let's get right to the heart of this thing. Twenty-four hours ago we were sitting in the Pogo Lounge of the Beverly Heights Hotel--in the patio section of course--drinking Singapore Slings with mezcal on the side, hiding from the brutish realities of this foul year of our Lord, two-thousand and twenty-one.
The intro really sets the mood and gives you the dust jacket teaser to whet your appetite. I use tongs to place ice in a glass so I don't drop it and splash what's in there, out of there.
I am so grateful, that I have actually been to Singapore in the raffles hotel and got a Singapore Sling right where it was invented. That's one of those vacations you don't forget
Just to save time I've made a small batch of "Sling Mix" which includes equal parts of Heering Cherry, Benedictine, Clémont Créole Shrubb, Grenadine, and a few dashes of Angostura Orange bitters Add gin and fruit juice and TADA I suppose I could add the gin as well. Hmmm
For me personal , I love your drinks!! This one is a little bit too weak for me. I like the version of Anderson better :) cheers!! But I take notes from your other super delicious cocktails! For example , your Mojito and Caiperinha versions are sooo delicious!!! 😊
I just no made one to your exact specifications (not exactly the same brands) and it is DELICIOUS! Thanks. Another tropical drink to add to my recipes.
Me: Hmm what drink should I try this weekend with the bottle of Tanqueray Rangpur Lime Gin I bought yesterday? Leandro: Lemme drop a quick little video your ya ;)
I watched Somebody Feed Phil and they did not appear to add Benedictine at the Long Bar. In Smuggler's Cove, they do not add pineapple juice. I definitely like it better with pineapple juice. Maybe next time I'll try it without Benedictine, which isn't really my favorite part of the flavor profile.
Damn, I thought I caught an anachronism in The Shining. There is a moment in the book where a woman orders a Singapore Sling, and it's the first time I heard of the cocktail, but that was 1921. Maybe Stephen King did his cocktail research 🤷
I love that you are redoing some of your earlier videos. This one is a very nicely done. When you first did this tutorial over two years ago, I think I had only two of the ingredients on hand. Now I have them all! Okay, I have to go get a pineapple, but otherwise I have them all. Is that cocktail pick from Tracy Hargrove, by any chance?
I was watching this 80's show Crime Story and this guy ordered a Singapore Sling with whipped cream. Was bright red, in a hurricane glass no ice with whipped cream filling half the glass. Might have to try that
The first time I had a Singapore Sling, it tasted like someone spiked a Capri Sun drink. Not a pleasant taste. THIS is something I know I will enjoy. 😊
Y'know the thing about a Leandro, he's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When he shakes a drink, he doesn't seem to be livin'... until he bites ya
Hm, any close subs for Benedictine? I promise to make it tomorrow and tag if there is one 😜! I was thinking something amongst Drambuie, Amaro Montenegro, and yellow Chartreuse could work 🤔
Getting more of a TOTR feel to this vid.. from the close ups to the slow mo’s and just the whole vibe over all. 👌🏽💯❤️🔥 • which, btw.. you introduced to me. 🙏🏽🇨🇦
I actually do wear a mask when driving alone, because it's somehow the law here and we get a major fine if we don't! This drink though... de-freaking-licious.. great tasting notes Leandro :)
This seems like the manly version of this drink ;D The recipe at Raffles has a lot more pineapple juice in it which makes it more of a lady pleaser I guess. Anyways I've tried quite a few of your recipes by now and noticed that a lot of them are on the tart/sour side. Especially if you compare them to the official IBA versions. So I usually opt for a slightly less acidic version of your recipes but to each his own
I've tried so many variations of this drink because I've had this weird obsession over really wanting to like it despite being disappointed over and over, which I attribute to my love since childhood for the movie Cocktail. I've finally perfected my own version and here's the changes I would make to this recipe: 1/2 oz Cointreau 1/2 oz pineapple 1/2 oz lemon 1/2 oz lime Dash each of orange and angostura bitters
Great video, Leandro! I just tried making one, and think this is my favorite version of this drink. To me, it always looks like you put in twice as many dashes of bitters than what you are saying. I looked up your older video on this drink, and noticed the specs are a little different. I assume you like this version better?
One of my fav cocktails I made all throughout the last pandemic summer (minus the club soda)… I used the death and co specs. Loved the reminder to make them again!
