@@ryanhostudio When I'm using the hip dac 2. With my samsung galaxy ultra 22 smartphone, can I also charge the hip dac into a wall socket, while I'm listening to the headphones?
The hip dac 2 IS that good. My hard to drive bass light DT 880 600 ohm phones sound fantastic with the high gain switch and the non muddy bass switch engaged
So I just bought the hifiman edition xs, and the ifi hip dac 2. I'll be using them with my Lenovo lap top, but ALSO with my samsung galaxy ultra 22 smartphone. While listening to music on my computer, can the hip dac 2. Be charging? And when listening with my samsung galaxy ultra 22 smartphone, is charging into a wall socket possible? Since the hip dac has a built in battery, that should save my smartphone battery, is this correct?
A Bluetooth chip in the hip dac would be so handy, ifi alone have so many portable amp DACs now option paralysis is real ! The gryphon is too big and expensive, a $200 BT hip dac would satisfy 90% of people
I use an iPhone 11pro so I’ve been happy with using Bluetooth or otg cables with my btr7/qudelix ….. but I just want a bit more power lol. My dt990 pros barely work well with the btr7 and qudelix. If it had a balanced cable I’d be just fine.
it has a better processor for full mqa decoding but also "upgraded crystal clock eradicates jitter (digital distortion), using iFi’s GMT femto precision clocking system. This maintains the integrity of the digital signal until conversion to analogue and enhances sound quality." But also I downloaded the GTO firmware for v2 which I didn't have when I reviewed v1
Ah yes this is exactly what I was looking for. I really want a gryphon (right now I have a btr7) to use with my edition xs and slew of iems. I think it’s the bass and space I seek.
To me, using my new iPHone14 for music is a fool's errand. It seems like Apple has gone out of their way to put people off from using the phones for hires music, since they removed the headphone out and given the fact that there's no real amp in the smartphones. And even to use something like the Hip Dac v2 with the iPhone, you need like two adapters. Half the time my phone stays in my jacket pocket and I use it BT wise in the car, as well, I'm not walking around with it per se anymore, so it's not practical to pair it with a headphone amp. There are other reasons why I hate smartphones for music, commercials, interruptions, lack of quality. I just ordered the hip dac v 2 and intend to use it strictly with my couple of Fiio music players, with wired headphones and IEMs. To me, that's the main reason to buy one of these, power and a quality upgrade and for wired sources. Why waste it on shitty sounding Bluetooth garbage?
because apple wants you to buy wireless airpods which than have batteries that die so you gotta buy new ones every few years and they can sell you more airpods to make more $$
@@ryanhostudio Um, yeah! You got it. A TOTAL moneymaking scam. I was just at an Apple store yesterday and they got rid of any high end audio products, all they offer now are Airpods or headphones and Beats. They used to have Audeze and Bower and Wilkins. No more. Now, all wireless junk. So sad.
yeah I have reviewed the Ifi IDSD signature, I do think the signature sounds more expansive and slightly more refined. signature has IE match and MUCH more power output too. I think you can find them for $500 now on adorama which is a much better price than when i reviewed it
Hello, excellent review. I would like to ask you if the Hip Dac 2 connected to my Shanling M3X would be capable of driving a Hifiman he400se or a Sundara? Thank you.
@@ryanhostudio I have the Hifiman He400is and I find they can be driven very well with most good headphone amps. You don't have to use an amp with the Hifiman planar headphones but I personally feel that you're never going to get their full potential without a good amp. They are all a bit power-hungry. Most dynamic headphones or IEMs I've heard or owned haven't been like that. I've heard though dynamics like Sennheiser HD600s etc. require a really good amp to drive them.
I got confused with your comparison between the hip DAC and the gryphon, you started saying there's a huge difference in sound, and then you conclude that the hip DAC sound very close to the gryphon for a lot less. Could you please reiterate that? In terms of pure sound quality (forget the features) how do they compare?
Subbed and liked! What do you recommend for me? Just ordered HD800 s for CS-GO only. Looking to get a DAC amp for it that will work just fine for what I’m using it. Have no idea what to get
Can I use this with my android phone and my car stereo which has a 3.5mm input would it work? If yes would it make a difference compared to a regular 3.5mm output device plugged to the car stereo 3.5mm input thanks.
I think you could just plug your phone using an adapter to output 3.5mm into your car stereo. The hip dac v2 does not have an output line but the ifi gryphon does so that is probably better for your use case
Do you like the optional GTO firmware for this? I need outside opinions because honestly I can't tell the difference. Hard to AB test when you need to flash firmware.
Decent product but most definitely not worth it, bought their hip dac 2 and six months later their usb cable started to malfunction and here the kicker..their 'technical support" is non existent, about 7 emails later directly through their website (only way to reach their "support") still getting some robot named jesse to no conclusion, its just a usb cable! Just ship the dam thing! You have my address! Jesus crocks!
