Brian: I don't like sitting on the ground pressing, if you have legs use 'em! Me: Oh, he's probably not a fan of Z pressing Brian: If I had someone do assistance for pressing, I'd have them do Z press. It's one of the best. Me: -__-

The concept of throwing and catching the weight has blown my mind. I never thought of it in those terms but as I've experimented with this, the amount I can put over my head has increased dramatically. And I am far from good at it. Man.... thank you so much. Much love and respect.

Literally one week ago I changed my primary overhead lift for the next 12 weeks to the push press from strict press. Aside from stabilizing overhead, I think the overloaded negative of bringing the weight back down to my shoulders will help immensely with my strict press. Time to go reprogram the rest of my assistance work. :) I've been watching your videos for a couple months now and you're changing the game for me. You're improving lives, brother. I’ve been running the Darkhorse program for about 9 weeks and just hit 62.5kg x 1 on a Z press. 9 weeks ago, my standing max was 60. So either I don’t lose much in my Z press or darkhorse is magic hahah. Either way, it’s an extremely fun program and I love how you’ve solved the problem of movement frequency that the usual conjugate method has.

Awesome video Brian thank you, what are your thoughts on pausing in the rack position between reps while pressing vs a touch and go type cadence? I have been doing pauses because it makes the reps harder but honestly dont know if one is better than the other for strength development. I see you always doing touch and go, likely because you train for strongman. Just wondering if you have any wisdom for the different training effect of each. Thanks for all the effort you put into these videos.

Work out in the cellar and don't have a power rack. So, drilled some pieces of 2 x 8 to accept a piece of 1 1/2" steel pipe. Cut the pipe to length so it would fit between the joists overhead. put a piece of 2 x 8 over each end of the pipe, slid them up between the joists and bolted the 2 x 8 to the joists. I use 2 ten foot lengths of 3/8 chain and some carabiners to form loops hanging from the pipe overhead. I suspend the bar in the two loops of chain. I can vary the height of the bar using the caribiner to change the length of the loop of chain. This is a great set up for doing partial or full reps for almost any exercise. I've worked with 500 pounds on the bar with no problems. Where there's a will there's a way. Brian, thanks for all you do and share, you're a great inspiration for all of us.

@ianfleming446
@ianfleming446 5 лет назад
As far as racking the trap bar, if you have access to a yoke with j cups (Rogue, I think Titan too), you can remove the center crosspiece and just move the uprights closer. Not quite as stable as a power rack but like Brian said you won't be using as much weight on the trap bar press.

Squat q&a question. Have you ever had issue with hitting depth? If so what are some mobility exercises that can help? Love your channel man!
@joshjohnston7388
@joshjohnston7388 5 лет назад
In the squat, yes? Just take some weight off the bar and concentrate on hitting depth. Tempo, box, and pause work can really help. Keep the weight on the bar at a level you can actually lift out of the hole without getting squirrelly, and concentrate on hitting depth every single time. Couple of weeks and it'll be habit.

This is a very cool video with lots of new ideas. I have been using a SAND BAG recently as an overhead press variation. Any thoughts on that? My grip is with a flat hand As you lift it up it shakes a little bit not much but you have to stabilize it. Anyway even with lighter weights compared to barbell it destroys my shoulders in a good way.

@fleecemaster

Hey Brian, great video! I was wondering if you knew anything about Erb's Palsy? I have damage to just my C5 nerve which means I can't use some of my shoulder muscles. I've been trying really hard to work on it my whole life but even now I can only lift a max of about 10kg above my head on my weak side. Just wondered if you had come across it before or had any ideas of things I could try? I'd love to do strongman one day, but with this issue clearly I'm never going to be able to press anything significant! Keep up the great work Brian! Love your videos! :)

Used to progress nicely using push press with strict press. The push press, however, murders my patella tendons because of the leg drive (the sharp change of direction)

@HUCY1709

@@BrianAlsruheOfficial God point. Thanks man. I do think it was strength because on one side i could go a few pounds heavier and on same weight same side usually went for more reps.
