Here are three things that I have personally learned over my 25 years in lifting that have made all of the difference. And the more and more great lifters I talk to, they all seem to say the same thing...That these three things are the most important to an individual's success in this game. I hope they help you out!

I am a 64 year old female who just started lifting two years ago. When I started I could not even do an air squat. I can now squat 60 pounds which I know seems pathetic but I worked really hard to get to this point and a big accomplishment for me. Wish I had started younger but better late than never. Thanks for inspiring me Brian!

This is some great advice man. I was thinking about my own experience when i was learning sign language...i was spending at least 3 hrs a week just associating with deaf people and other volunteers who signed, let alone the time i spent practicing and going through lessons. All those principals truly do apply to all parts of life. And i too would love to see you start a podcast

Brian, you are so very right! I'm 61, been lifting since I was 13. I know that strength does not happen overnight, that it takes really hard work to be really strong, and that you cannot miss too many workouts if you want to maintain/increase that strength. I am so very blessed and so very grateful that at my age I can still squat, bench, and deadlift with heavy weight, though I do take a bit longer to recover. Thanx so much for your videos. It's nice to be nice.

This was an awesome video. I was noticing some weak points in my lifts and have been consistently trying to fix them and I'll admit, I do get discouraged when I don't see the progress that I expect to see. But, nonetheless, I go back downstairs to my basement gym and grind it out. I'm a SAHM so it's easy for me to be consistent. I love the idea of going over the plan for the workout the day before, that struck me as gold!! Thanks Brian

Hey Brian, great content. It’s important to teach people the value of hard work regardless as to what they are endeavoring to achieve. I make my son repeat “hard work pays off” several times a day everyday, hoping that by saying this over and over the message will sink in. Sadly our society has morphed into one whereby there is either a sense of entitlement, or the need for a shortcut. No one wants to actually work for anything. It’s good to see you imparting this life lesson to your viewers.

Earlier I was talking to someone about scheduling and said, “then I have to go to the gym,” and they said “well, you don’t HAVE to,” and that made me think. The priority I hold for my training is at the same level as school or any other obligation and I realized not everyone who works out thinks that way. I know that I didn’t build that idea myself, but I subconsciously made it my philosophy. A podcast similar to the talk you had with Dave a while back would be quite enjoyable, I generally dig them because I can throw them on when I’m doing other things.

A few... Okay several years ago I decided to complete the reps no matter what. If I needed to rest a few seconds or even a minute I was going to finish that amount of reps in that set. if for some reason I absolutely cannot complete this that I drop the weight and add 2x the reps I couldn't do. I don't know if it has made me stronger physically, but it has helped me in other ways. Good use of the word pontificate!!!

Excellent. I definitely fall into the neurotic category right now. I had two moves across the country in little over a year (2018), and all of the stress, financial hardship, and logistical nightmares took their toll on me. I lost twenty-some pounds, going from 185lbs @6' and decently strong, to weak and nothing at 160-165lbs... I'm on the path to recovery, as I've reinvented my educational path (mechanical engineering / manufacturing), and am once again in a position to really feed myself, as well as invest into my own gym equipment for the basement. (I had gotten to a point just before leaving the Marines that I was really happy with, and I maintained that for a long time through 2017 to mid 2018). It's a slow process regaining a lot of lost ground, but I do not believe it is an option to not do it. It burns me that I even let myself falter, but I have to recognize that there wasn't an avenue of approach to rectify that issue during the calamity. All of that said, this is what I needed to hear. I have followed you for a long time (Since just before the Thrall Era. I also sent you the Washington State flag that's hanging in your gym), and I've executed your programs since that time, and have always made headway with them. Long winded, I know, but I appreciate you, Brian. I definitely need to remain patient, and treat every workout as another piece to a greater, stronger whole (and stop checking my scale. If I'm getting stronger, but not necessarily gaining weight, that's not necessarily an issue, right?) 2019's CNY's Strongest Competition is coming up in May, but that is a pipe-dream right now. 2020, however, I am determined to compete, and for the first time be able to enjoy the fruits of my labor, in a sport I've been trying to get into for sometime. As for your podcast, that would be great. I would certainly tune in.

My experience with giving advice is actually quite simple:don't give advice, people just want to be listened to. the worst vice is advice as they say. i see a lot of people doing wrong stuff but i know from my own point of view... i practiced going to the gym for two years not knowing what am i doing. and now(not that i am not significantly better than before) i learned that i had to do the mistake to learn the lesson. someone coming up and giving it to you can be a great thing but you'll never learn to examine yourself bc you know every detail of yourself, you can examine better as long as you know how. these three things can be useful and carry you for long but it take a lot of running just to stay in place if you know what I mean. its like everything in life. everyone can try it but its not for everyone. thanks for the advice its just that i need it to be on my wall or something just so i can be constantly remined of it.
