This video made me cry. It's so full of emotion and passion. I wish more booktubers talked about books like you do here. Hearing you talk about those books- the ones that saved you, that come just when you need them, the books that just get it- made me feel the need to read them. Thank you, Cece.

SO many great books on this list. Added "Radio Silence" to my holds list at the library. It has been included on tons of favorites of 2018 lists, and it sounds amazing!

My favorite book of the year was The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne which I think you’d really love Cece. It’s a queer story and is just so meaningful.

Oh I'm so glad to hear talk like that about Crooked Kingdom, because I felt the same way about Six of Crows and was a little nervous about CK.

In none of the other descriptions of Darius I’ve seen has Star Trek been mentioned and now I will absolutely be reading it.

Yes! He talks about Nex Gen constantly. It's so ingrained in his relationship with his dad and how he processes things. When I read the book I had never seen a single episode of Next Generation and now I've watched almost the entire show. I can't wait to reread having more context.

ProblemsofaBookNerd Star Trek is kind of my favorite thing after books and my cat. I feel like it explores what it means to be a human just as much as like...space stuff. The other series, with the exception of the original series (personal preference), build on that so much in so many different ways. If you like TNG, check out the others too! 💜

My favorite books this year have basically been the whole Wayward Children series, Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day by Seanan McGuire, The Raven Boys, The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, and City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

I enjoyed city of ghosts too! So many people were hating on it because she usually does adult and YA, but for a middle grade book it was great!

I didn't read near as much as I wanted to in 2018, but the two books that stand out most for me were definitely 'anger is a gift' by Mark Oshiro, and almost moreso 'dreadnought' by April Daniels, currently I'm reading and loving 'an absolutely remarkable thing' by Hank Green

Radio Silence was also one of my favorite books in 2018. The relationship between Aled and Frances is the closest I’ve ever seen to me and one of my best friends. We definitely need to see more platonic soulmates. Also Aled saying “I’m demisexual” in page made me cry

Just from how much you've talked about it in recent videos, I just knew what your top pick of the year would be! As for me, I did read nearly as many books as I normally do. My reading slump hit in early April and continued until a few weeks ago. So of the ten books I read last year, my top picks were Shaun David Hutchinson's "We Are the Ants" and Kevin Kwan's "Crazy Rich Asians." I picked up the first one because of your rave reviews about in earlier episode. I absolutely loved it for all the ways it simply broke my heart. I need to read more of SDH's books. And "Crazy Rich Asians" was just a really fun ride, just like the movie adaptation, which I actually preferred. There were some plot details that got cut for the sake of the movie, but I really enjoyed reading about them. I just finished the sequel "China Rich Girlfriend" last weekend, which was really interesting as well.

what a lot of these seem to have in common is that they focus a lot on characters and have a very strong element of introspection which i think says a lot about the sort of books that you enjoy? and it's in general a very good indicator of an amazing story, because that means it's more human. i have no idea where i'm going with this, but just know that i want to read all of these that i haven't already and that i trust your judgement a lot when it comes to the media you enjoy, because it is so close to my own.
@ProblemsofaBookNerd

theo I fucking love this comment wow. I definitely think that this year was the year of reading and loving character driven books above everything else, and yes yes yes introspection was so key in almost all of these books. I read for characters in 2019 and I loved it.

I have definitely said this in another comment on another video, but Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper comic is pretty great (Aled and the others show up) and it’s cute and queer af! :D I recommend it! (it is being published formally in Feb/March, too, but you can check it out on Tumblr on heartstoppercomic)

I adored Homegoing... except for the very end. I thought it was so unnecessary and unrealistic. I thought it pretty much went against the rest of the book. And I'm not talking about the final 2 characters' view of their African roots. I'm talking about the weird sort of magical realism element that made the ending kind of just happen.
@ProblemsofaBookNerd

Aw, that's actually the thing I loved. I thought it was such a lovely way to tie the entire story together, and it's definitely what made me sob the hardest as I read that last chapter.
