Even if I prefere Grindelwald over Voldemort, we have to consider the fact that when Voldemort says that line, he was in front of Dumbledore...even for Voldemort was impossible to fight Albus + Aurors alone
I still cannot fathom how Fudge could have been so foolish to think that he, Dolores Umbridge, Shakelbolt and Dawlish stood a chance against the man who defeated Grindelwald in duel ... watching this scene it's plainly clear that Dumbledore could have, if he so desired, taken on the entire Auror Office of the British Ministry for Magic.
Well yes but actually no, i think that the one thing rita was right about dumbledore is that there was no duel in the end. even tho i think that dumbledore could have done that, it's not due to his win against grindelwald
THIS. So very much this. One thing that gives me hope that we'll see Graves again; the fact that in 'GoF', they needed to keep Moody alive to use Polyjuice to keep impersonating him...
gamer1884 I kept thinking: Dumbledore defeated this man in duel, how on earth could Fudge actually think that two Aurors, Umbridge and himself could EVER stand a chance against Dumbledore?! Cornelius Fudge is quite possibly the dumbest Minister of Magic in the history of the Ministry!
StichLooWeen Did you notice that he kept waving his arm in a semi-circular fashion and turning his wrist clockwise and anti-clockwise? I've come to believe that he didn't actually created several shields, but one very strong shield charm that he kept feeding, possibly Protego Maxima (or Totalum - given that the shield walk with him)
+alonelychild Not only did Dumbledorebest him in a duel, Dumbledore bested him in a duel when he had the elder wand. Here he doesn't even have the elder wand.
Julian Smit now that you mention it, I'm interested in seeing Aberforth. He's described as a very powerful duelist with an aggressive style and it would be cool seeing the other Dumbledore in action.
Yeah unfortunanetly the next film takes place in like 1928 or 1929, and the duel is in 1945. Unless there's a huge time jump, it'll be in movie 5, which is going to be in like 2024. I HOPE that the series is pure Dumbledore+Newt+Grindelwald and features the flashbacks mentioned above, and more backstory.
I can’t but their duel is 3 hours long so Rowling is going to have to do some jump cuts during it so we can it pan out. Hopefully it’s over 5 minutes though.
That makes no sense. In Deathly Hallows, it was established that no one knows what the wand looks like. So, Grindelwald should have easily been able to pass the wand off.
StarKiller 56 the Americans have wand registration thingy as mentioned in the movie since ehe was impersonating Graves he would have to use Graves wand or else his cover would be easily blown. Plus in the movie u see he isn't using the elder wand.
true but tina still disarmed him right? that should make her the new master of the elder wand unless as I personally suspect he hadn't actually retrieved at this point in the story which if you think about it makes him all the more frightening although that does kind of screw up my theory of how grindlewald was defeated by Dumbledore in 1945
Colin Farrell killed it in this movie. He was a brilliant choice for Graves and honestly should have been kept alive to return in future sequels, as Graves was a powerful auror enough that his displays of magic seen by the ministry, including wandless magic, drew no significant suspicion to him up until this point.
I like how the president is terrifyingly realising that this man is not Graves. Hopefully Farrell will return in the sequals as the real Graves. It would be a waste of talent if does not return.
well I suppose difference in cultures and the times could say something for it, I mean I imagine moving to the new world they wouldn't have necessarily been confined to the same rigid ways. (By that I mean that I imagine the only reason that wizards don't wear more modern clothing is that their superior powers(magical), give them a certain sense of self superiority which make themselves too arrogant to potentially improve their own society using muggle aspects in England. Potentially this is something that to a certain aspect they have decided that the US don't need, at least not in terms of borrowing aspects of No mag society in order to improve their own.)
@@MegaMerlin5 US magical society was even more Insular than the European ones . No majs and magical people were not even allowed to marry , so it's not a case of them being more open
@@hannahdyson5603 i agree, the American magical community would have made a point of guarding themselves with anonymity and would wear clothing fashionable to their time just to guarantee that they wouldn't stand out.
I think my favorite part of this entire thing. Is that despite how many Aurors there were. Something like 15 to 20 easily. He was still supremely confident he could take all of them at the same time. And honestly, he was doing just that.
yasss, and he wasnt even moving backwards as in a defensive manner, he was just straight going for their asses, it was a really good scene, I just wish it lasted a little longer.
He stood his ground for not very long. How are people saying he was doing just that or hes that powerful when all he did was block the spells and rebounded a few lol ridiculous.
@Sameer Vadlamani Even so. Saying he was "doing just that" and taking them all on is ridiculous. He reflected two spells and took out two of them. Wasnt like a bunch were going down. Also funny how they are all casting the same spell at him. Not surprise he was continuously deflecting the same spell over and over. People even on here saying hes more powerful than Voldemort which is laughable.
Grindelwald is a total badass, he probably let himself get captured since he could have easily escaped from the Aurors if he had wanted to. The fact that he decided to advance towards them while dueling clearly shows that he had no intention of running away. His smirk at the end says it all.
Pretty sure he didn't mean to be captured. Had the fight continued, Grindelwald would eventually have defeated every last one of them. Then again, getting captured is nothing more than a setback for him.
Dumbledore and Grindelwald are very like Professor X and Magneto, one seeks peaceful coexistence with the Muggles while the other sees wizards as the "superior species" who should rule the world. I'm looking forward to seeing Grindelwald's epic breakout scene the very next movie (hopefully it's even better than Magneto's breakout scene XD)
Thanish Davipaul in my opinion, the difference is that he is not a fanatic, ideology is not at the first place in his character. The primary motives at the base of his actions are his ego (he feels special, he wants to be great, to achieve his potential, that urge for power which he later learns to keep under control) and his infatuation with a person he feels connected to, who is in fact a fanatic.
"Will we die just a little" chilling lines that are delivered amazingly. Say what you want about Depp but he gets into his roles and I believe he will do just fine as Grindelwald.
@@steffenjensen422 Depp was the only reason people watched that movie in the first place. Won't be surprised if people stop watching it just because he's gone. Mike may or may not be a good portrayal of Grindelwald, but he would never equate Depp at all
according to Potterlore, Grindelwald only ever lost to Dumbledore in an honest fight, and Grindelwald thought Voldemort as a "powerful idiot" who "understood nothing of importance" Couple that with his ability to decieve the entire Ministry pretending to be Percival Graves for years, and subsequently overpowering 20+ Ministry Aurors by himself and that gives perspective on his level of power and intellect
When he started to kick the ass of all the Aurors, I was like "How in the hell is this guy so powerful?" And later "Oh, he is Grindelwald. That make more sense"
He is fighting the best 10-20 MACUSA Aurors at the same time, non-verbally with a wand that doesn't belong to him and given how he avoids using it during the film, probably doesn't even have its allegiance, and he only gets stopped not by the Aurors but by Newt's Beasts that were behind him and he wasn't counting on. The same kind of underestimation that Voldemort had, he doesn't acknowledge or take anything besides wizards into consideration. And likely neither does the elder wand and since a beast disarmed him (Tina only retrieves the wand, and does NOT disarm him) he likely doesn't lose the elder wand's allegiance.
The fact that Fudge was somehow less terrified of Dumbledore, the man who beat this absolute force of nature, coming for his job than Voldemort returning just absolutely baffles me
Why? Voldemort was more powerful than Dumbledore AND willing to kill. Unlike Dumbledore who wasnt a threat so there is not really a reason to fear him unless you attack first and even then he would probably only disarm you and leave you to aurors. Lord V would just go for the killing curse right off the bat.
@Dark Voice Voldemort is not more powerful than Dumbeldore. The rest I agree with. I will add that his fear of Dumbledore comes from his delusion & being usurped by a superior wizard
@@Dark_Voice Yeah Voldemort is not stronger than Dumbledore, quite the opposite actually. Dumbledore is "the only one he ever feared". Dumbledore wiped the floor with him in the books (fawkes was one of his weapons) and seemed to be in a tie in the movies despite the fact that Dumbledore was only protecting/stalling and had to look out for Harry too. Knowing that the elder wand didn't exist in Rowling's head back then and also knowing that the deathly hallows are not all they are made to be, using the elder wand doesn't take away anything from Dumbledore.
@@BapeRuLLZ it goes 1. Dumbledore 2. Voldemort 3. Grindelwald so yeah the thing is as many have said he Voldemort has no problem slaughtering so many innocents just for the hell of it that is what makes him scarier in my opinion and unable to feel love.
@@McherriNope it is Dumbledore, Grindelwald and Voldemort....Grindelwald wiped out entire force of Aurors with a single spell. And that Protego Diabolica spell empowered by the Elder Wand took 6 persons to contain. Being dark and evil? It goes to Voldemort but more powerful and skilled? Grindelwald
A few thoughts about Newt capturing Grindelwald with such apparent ease (apologies for the length): 1) When Grindelwald fought Newt earlier, Newt attempted only one attack, a standard magical blast with his wand, and it was easily deflected. The rest of the battle Newt spent dodging, defending, and almost getting electrocuted. Grindelwald would not have seen him as an offensive threat, especially compared to the Aurors. 2) Grindelwald's speech was intended to plant seeds of doubt in his listeners about the MACUSA policy of hiding - and when he says "I ask all of you" he takes a long look back at Newt and Tina. He knows they watched Credence get (apparently) killed, and I'm sure he wants them to be thinking about Credence when he says "who does this law protect?", and wants them thinking that the law is what forced Credence into his condition and ultimately got him killed. Despite having just fought both of them, because of Credence they're his most likely "converts" to opposition to the law. 3) If you watch the Auror's blasts hit Grindelwald's shield, from the way the energies dissipate it looks like the shield is spherical. So he was prepared for that kind of magical attack by Newt or Tina as well as the Aurors, and if either of them _had_ attacked magically like that, their attacks would have similarly hit the shield and been deflected. 4) Also, when he starts walking back and the battle begins, Tina and Newt are on his left but still in front of him. He can see that they're not attacking along with the Aurors. That might have made him think that they were at least pondering what he said, torn between the two sides. 5) This bit is even more speculative, but I don't think Newt released the Swooping Evil just as a distraction. Grindelwald, as Graves, would have gotten reports from the Aurors who chased Newt and Tina, so he would have known that the creature could deflect magical blasts. When it flies in front of him, you can see several blasts hit the ceiling, indicating that the Swooping Evil _had_ deflected several attacks, probably from the Aurors. This may have led Grindelwald to believe that Newt had been convinced by the speech and was fighting _with_ him, and caused him to let down his guard a little in that direction. To me, the look on his face as the creature flies behind him and he starts to turn around says "I can't believe I convinced you so quickly". 6) You can see from Grindelwald's face that he is completely shocked when his hands are seized by whatever-it-is Newt threw at him. He wasn't _planning_ to be captured, at least not by Newt, and he is first shocked, then angry. But I suspect he _had_ planned for the possibility of capture, so after getting over his surprise at _how_ he was taken, he settled into his more customary arrogance.
I love this kind of discussion. I doubt number 4 though because he had sentenced them to death and just been trying to kill Newt moments before. It would be foolish of them to think they'd come to his side. As for 5, you can't read too deeply into the too-early shocked look on his face. I think Colin thought Grindelwald would see something looming behind him out of the periphery of his vision that grabbed his arms before he could react. They didn't end up animating it that way though. Grindelwald stared straight ahead at the aurors during the fight. He didn't look up at the swooping evil. So, why would he have noticed it less conspicuously coming up behind him? Which reminds me, why didn't an auror just apparate immediately behind Grindelwald and grab his arms?
@M G I think I heard somewhere that Grindlewald had something of a tendency to have little interest or tolerance for those whom he considered beneath him. Hence why he dismissed Credence as unimportant once he was done with him and only showed renewed interest once Credence proved to be who he was seeking. Thus he likely did not consider Newt anything more then a nuisance.
I don't know how they're ever going to pull it off though. It's supposed to have taken 3 hours. If they do it in real time, it'll be a movie and a half.
OneOnOne1162 They'll probably place it between scenes set over that amount of time. Maybe they'll give the other characters something to do in the background that aids in bringing down Grindelwald's army or some large scheme he has planned. But yes, with scenes placed in between different stages in the duel and then say how long has passed is the closest there will be to the full fight. Hopefully it will be an incredible scene and live up to expectations, but those expectations are very, very high.
There's been so much negativity towards Johnny Depp's casting as Grindelwald and honestly, it's irritating. We've only seen him as Grindelwald for just about a minute and that's barely enough to start saying he'll be terrible in the role. Besides, if Rowling believes he is the right choice then I'm confident. It's true he's not been on top form for a while now, but give him a chance. Playing the villain may suit him. Personally I think his brief part was promising. He was chilling and the expressions he made (that smile he gives Newt as he's lead away) were spot on. And am I the only one who thinks the design of Grindelwald was great? Just my opinion though.
People need to give him a chance. I am looking forward to seeing Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. People are always going to have something to disagree with.
Victoria Richardson Absolutely! I'm very much looking forward to his portrayal of Grindelwald too. Just as you said, people will always disagree on something. Depp is a fantastic actor and has played and brought to life so many iconic and interesting characters (e.g Jack Sparrow) and his movies show he has the perfect range to play Grindelwald. Some didn't like his "design" as Grindelwald but I think it looks fantastic. Instantly iconic and if the way he plays the character matches the appearance, he'll likely steal the show in the next few movies.
I completely agree. Technically speaking Grindelwald had about two minutes of actual screen time. But Johnny Depp owned those couple minutes. Just the right blend of elegence and crazy. Unlike Voldemort who was a mass murdering impulsive psychopath. Albeit an extremely powerful and genius level one. Grindelwald struck me as being a little classier in his craziness. Sort of like a Hilter and the Godfather comparison
The negativity has more to do with the twist being unnecessary and poorly executed, than who was actually cast as Grindelwald. It is quite obvious that Johnny Depp's head was sloppily edited into the scene, and that is Colin Farrell's body. It also does not help that his contacts are completely distracting, and his German/Austrian "accent" is terrible.
chocolateyes613 It's true there's no denying the editing was imperfect and the twist was at best unnecessary, but I did not say that was the main source of the negativity. What I meant was how most of the initial reaction towards Depp's casting was negative. I did not at all say it was the main source of the poor response to this scene. I was speaking distinctively about Depp's casting as a separate thing, not this scene. Everywhere I have looked there is an overwhelming amount of criticism to Depp's casting. I personally find it infuriating when people decide how an actor will be in a role before they've even seen them completely in the role. There's a lot of examples of this and more often than not the actor excels and proves their detractors wrong. Perhaps his accent wasn't perfect, but as I was trying to say, give him a chance.
Grindelwald probably could breakout of their version of azkaban because in book order of the Phoenix when they are about to arrest dumbledore he says something like "I could breakout of Azkaban of course but that time would be wasted when I could be doing more important things".
+nikprostaPiE no sorry I meant in the film I would have liked to have seen him take out a few more aurors. I'm not talking about this video specifically.
toe to toe with Dumbledore only in his early years, let us not forget that Dumbledore didn't exactly have an easy duel in the ministry against Voldemort and Dumbledore was using the elder wand (like Grindelwald in their duel) Grindelwald is strong but not strong enough to take 10 aurors including Newt with beasts
I’m sure he could have broken free from Newt’s creature but I think when he got his hands trapped he decided to escape captivity instead of escaping right then and there.
Wow, that scene was awesome. I don't know how he was able to deflect all them spells the Auror's was casting. An average wizard/witch could only deflect spells from one or a few wizards/witches, but Grindelwald was able to deflect from many Aurors at the same time and hit some Auror's back. But I noticed Madam President Sarafina Picquery did not draw her wand, she looked amazed and I think she knew right then that was Grindlewald because I don't believe Graves could ever hold back that many Aurors. The MACUSA President is very powerful with in her own right, it would have been interesting to see a duel between the two of them. But I think Dumbledore could possibly be the only one that could have stopped him, but who knows, Madam Picquery is very powerful too.
i know right!. home girl didn't lift her wand! I was like you about to die girl!but than maybe because they both didn't hurt each other....they are on the same side
She didn't draw her wand because she knew that it will make no difference cuz at that moment she realized that it was Grindelwald. And she is not powerful, having a high position in the wizarding world doesn't mean you're powerful. We all know Fudge was weak and insecure although he was the minister of magic.
She was one of very few students that all IIvermorny houses wanted, which does not happen very often at all. That says that she is very gifted. It says on Wiki that anyone who has tried to cross her has lived to regret it.
Not sure why they say the dark lord was the most evil to ever live. I mean 7 books and there was nothing apart from the duel with dumbledore which was a draw at best. Whereas gellert here was total badass
Felipe Medeiros In that duel Dumbledore wasn't even trying, even Voldemort got pissed off because of it because even though he was immortal he couldn't touch Deumbledore. The duel between G&D lasted for hours, and this is when Dumbledore was in his dueling prime.
Leo Richards So from what u say, Voldemort is the most powerful dark wizard just cause Grindewald didnt showed his true strenght? Perhaps because his plans didnt require him to do so? Cause i believe none in the magical world knew about Voldemort immortality (If they knew, his reputation could have grown on this fact alone) but maybe he was just more violent than Grindewald, not more powerful. U may be right then.
Felipe Medeiros You read my comment wrong i was saying Dumbledore was the one not trying when he dueled Voldemort, and this was when Albus was not in his prime. Its hard to say who is truly more powerful out of Voldy and Grind, they both have vast knowledge of the Dark arts, if Voldemort had his horcruxes then obviously he would win but without them its really hard to say. Me personally would go for Grindelwald because even though Voldemort was very intelligent his arrogance blinded him as shown many times during the second wizarding war, even Grindelwald himself said that Voldemort was a powerful idiot as he didn't understand the elder wand or how to master it.
I'm sure Johnny will do great in the role. I'm just sort of sad that Colin Farrell's character was wasted like that. Here's to hoping the real Graves pops up in the sequels
Grindelwald weilds Mr. Grave's wand here. That is obviously not the elder wand. If you read the Elder Wand Wikia, it was passed from Grindelwald to Dumbledore to Draco Malfoy to Voldemort, then to Harry Potter. It was never owned by Tina or Newt (as some said Newt disarmed Grindelwald and Tina Accio the wand), it confirms that was not the elder wand
@@Zero-qy2rf tbh i would have feared voldy more, not because some are saying voldy is more powerful, but cuz he is a psychopath. He genuinely enjoys torturing, and murdering. He enjoys the fear he gave other people. Grindelwald, on the other hand seems to be much, much more sane than voldy. I mean, dude cant even understand love no more.
I wish he took out all of the aurors and as he was about to kill the president thats when Newt used the beast to capture him... too short... I can't wait for the next movie and hope to see Grindlewald kicking more ass
He would not have killed Seraphina lmfao she stood there for a reason but if she did have to draw her wand she wouldnt have perished mightve lost a battle but shed have gotten away, seraphina was president for a reason and americas first woman duelist champion.
It’s crazy just to imagine how actually powerful Grindelwald was, and how could it be if he had created Horcruxes for him. But is very important to say that Grindelwald didn’t created the horcruxes not because he couldn’t, he most like could have done as well, but he never was obsessed with immortality or afraid of dying like Voldemort was. As a matter of fact, he always knew what creating those would cost him, and that death is inevitable, which makes him at the very least, far more wise than Voldemort. I personally think that Grindelwald was more powerful than Voldemort in terms of knowledge/spell skills, but Voldemort was far more cruel, destructive, and at his end almost irrational (also very skilled), which combined, made him even more dangerous than Grindelwald itself. J.K. Rowling world is even more amazing when you can see the details she has created!
While I personally think it's bullshit how easily Grindelwald was taken down, at least it was from a surprise attack and not the director depowering him and letting a nobody like Newt or one of those Aurors beat him in a fair fight. Cause ain't nobody but Dumbledore doin' that.
No you're underestimating Newt, the man trained fucking dragons to fight in WW1 and tamed super monsters which he pull out of case like a Pokemon master.
@@li-limandragon9287 btw bro I think Grindelwald doesn't need dragons or even wands to fight.Look at his smirk in the last part..Its says something..and when he told this line "Do you think you can hold me?"...The President was quite terrified and have got goosebumps from that.. Just what I expected from Dumbledore's archenemy. Grindelwald was using Graves' wand and yet if it wasn't for Newt's sneak attack, he would've defeat all aurors and president herself. The reason why Tom Riddle Jr was placed No.1 as most dangerous dark wizard of all time is because he was a psychopath who killed anyone standing in his way. In terms of leadership skills, understanding of human psychology, wisdom, and intelligence, Grindelwald was superior. If you read Deathly Hallow, you can see that even though he was already dead, Dumbledore had Voldmort on his palm. Dumbledore's planning skills and understanding of people's relations allowed him to completely toy with Riddle. Grindelwald's skills and intelligence are near mirror level of Dumbledore. In terms of over all skills, Grindelwald deserves No.1 in the list of most powerful dark wizard of all time. Unlike Grindelwald's ideology was somewhat understandable, Voldmort was using blood superiority as his tool for gaining more power for himself only.
Garammaru - Grindelwald is the #1 dark wizard, he’s only placed second cause the franchise came out second, Same reason Voldemort’s wizarding war is known as the first when there’s clearly Grindewald, only because she thought of his idea first but skillfully, Grindewald is more powerful then Voldemort. Especially Voldemort with the Horcruxes who was weak after them all being destroyed with a weak soul.
And now with Secrets of Dumbledore released, (SPOILER ALERT) Grindelwald is basically the same as Voldemort. He also thinks that Muggles poison blood purity and make the wizards weak.
And remember, Dumbledore was only a "shade" more powerful than Grindelwald. Admittedly, Grindelwald was using the Elder wand but then it could be said that Dumbledore beat/stalemated Voldemort too. Regardless of who's more powerful, these three are really in a league of their own
I would actually be a Grindelwald fanatic if it wasn't for wanting to dominate muggles/no-mages. If it was just to reveal magic to them and be on all equal terms, then I'd go for it. His speech made me realise that, since it makes so much sense
wizards tried that once and it ended with a bunch of them getting burned or their heads cut off. Grindelwald was right their choice was to rule the muggles or to hide from them
@@hannahdyson5603 They wanted to rule muggles not wipe them out. Also they wouldn't be as bad as muggles for two reason firstly, they wouldn't execute people for how they were born secondly they wouldn't be as bad because nobody would be forced to live in hiding. Also I never said the wizards would treat the muggles well only that the wizards would themselves have better live.
I think this is amazing casting, I honestly think Johnny Depp will be amazing as Grindelwald, he looks the part, and it's nice to see him doing something different away from Jack Sparrow and OTT Tim Burton characters
am I the only one confused as to why they were more than willing to execute Newt and Tina for accidentally releasing creatures and inadvertently (in their eyes) causing the death of a no maj) but they capture one of the darkest wizards of all time and no one thinks to say "hey guys this wizard is super dangerous and super guilty, I mean we have a way of killing wizards right here why don't we just deal with this here and now?"
To be fair, even after Dumbledore defeated him, they didn't execute Grindelwald. They sent him to a magical prison. And if Azkhaban is any indication of how torturous magical prisons are, I would say that an execution would have been a mercy.
Honestly, I don't understand why people said that Johnny Depp shouldn't be Gellert Grindelwald, I mean for gods sake! He was only in the movies for how long? 1-2 minutes? I mean, come on guys, just give the guy a chance to prove himself to you
Because Johnny Depp is a love-him-or-hate-him actor, and quite overexposed at this point. How many would-be franchises has he been in, during the past decade?
me personally call me a perfectionist but I found him a too flamboyant for the character which ironically was the same problem I had with Ralph Fiennes doing Voldemort although in that case I suspect as with here they have purposely made a character less frightening then their book counterpart to make the films more family accessible (unfortunately the deathly hallows doesn't get that past because of the scene of Hermione being tortured in part 1)
actually no two different problems their Johny depp I found too Flamboyant Ralph Fiennes I just saw as being too human in his portrayal of Voldemort (that hug and awkward laugh from part two of the deathly hallows)
While Voldy wasn't that scary in the films, it kind of suited his character, I big point about Voldemort's character, is that he dosn't live up the hype, beneath all his reputation and mystique, he's just man who's everybit as fallible as everyone else.
Voldemort would simply just conjure his silvershield and kill them all with the killing curse as he did so with hundreds of wizards during the first wizarding war.
If I lived in this time I would be with Gellit cause he's kinda right what's the point in having magic if you can't use it and I wish he didn't get captured cause he's so bad ass
This to me was so epic bc Voldemort ran away from the aurors, but here Grindelwald takes on as many of them as he can and seems to have an upper hand until Newt caught him from behind. Plus he wasn’t using his own Wand, nor the Elder Wand, so even a casual movie goer would go “WOW, this guy is powerful and Albus Dumbledore beat him when he possessed the Elder Wand?”
People talking about how strong Grindelwald is, but let’s talk about how strong Graves is. Everything he does before now is what he’s actually capable of, not Grindelwald. The “oh shit” look on the President’s face was the realization. Graves was capable of everything Grindelwald did in his body up to now, meaning he was a top rate wizard who Grindelwald subdued and used as a disguise.
Alexandru Moraras I agree, however as for the magic beasts this particular film was called fantastic beasts and where to find them therefore it is natural that the film would showcase the many different creatures. I do want to see more of grindelwald and how it plays out, I understand that some people feel that Johnny depp isn't right for this role however it is also fair to say that because he is such a character actor and that he's played roles like Sweeney Todd, Edward ScissorHands and even jack sparrow he should be able to get into and portray this role well. Let's just see how it goes and hope for the best👍
Grindelwald casually taking on approximately 20 Aurors at once showed what a badass villain he is. He's like "Okay, fuck it, let's get this over with", then casually dispels their barrier and starts wailing on them without saying a word or even using any aggressive spells. Everything they throw at him is just deflected back at them like a lightsaber deflecting a blaster bolt. It's a nice contrast to Voldemort, who is much more aggressive. However, this scene wasn't shot very well. They should have shown Grindelwald dropping his wand before Tina summoned it. Because they didn't do that most people, myself included, mistakenly thought that she just achieved mastery of the Elder Wand (the fact that Grindelwald wasn't actually using the Elder Wand means nothing because Draco Malfoy wasn't using it either when Harry achieved mastery). The Swooping Evil technically disarmed him and the Elder Wand doesn't recognise animals as its master, but we don't see the wand drop from Grindlewald's hand so it's very easy for people to think that it passed on to a new master in this scene.
Koba granted there were many dozens of aurors at the ministry, along with Dumbledore and most of the order. Even Voldemort isn’t stupid or arrogant enough to think he’d come out of that one unscathed.
He ran away from Aurors and Albus Dumbledore, who was Voldemort's equal in duelling ability. Voldemort had a good chance of beating Dumbledore in a one on one duel but even before the Aurors arrived, Dumbledore had two advantages. The first was stated in The Half Blood Prince with the quote "I taught Tom Riddle. I know his style". The second was that he was using the Elder Wand. Duelling Dumbledore whilst fending off a group of Aurors at the same time would be foolish.
I still can't believe that WB were foolish enough to replace Johnny Depp. He was great for the role. This whole cancel culture crap is absolutely ridiculous and getting out of hand.
I did some counting, there were about thirty Aurors present. And he looked like he was fending them off with relative ease. I'd say, Grindelwald and Dumbledore going head to head should be quite the sight, if David Yates don't mess it up.
Being one of the most dangerous dark wizards of all time, it's honestly a bit weird how it only took 5 seconds to apprehend Grindelwald (when he isn't Graves). Anybody trying to defeat, kill or even apprehend Voldemort would end up dead immediately.
If Newt hadn't been there, Grindelwald would've taken them all down. He was only distracted by that animal and when he was tied up he lost his wand so what could he do? Besides he will return so there's always Plan B for him.
Prithviraj Basu Because, if though Grindelwald killed a lot of people, when he was 16-17 in Godric's Hollow, Dumbledore advised him to not use force more than necessary, why kill if stun will do? So Grindelwald didn't duel to kill. Did you see him firing any killing curse at all? There were only stunning spells. Voldemort, on the other hand, was unwise and wasteful (there were so very few wizards in the world and yet he killed unnecessarily). Voldemort signature spell is the killing curse. He fires it left and right like a gatlin gun, he uses the killing curse with the same easiness that Harry Potter fires disarming charms.
"Anybody trying to defeat, kill or even apprehend Voldemort would end up dead immediately." I doubt anyone would even try to apprehend Voldemort, unless they were extraordinary like Dumbledore. I mean, there is something called survival instinct.
+Novo Eduardo AC Exactly. Avada kedavra is like Voldemort's default or like factory setting. When he doesn't know exactly what to do, he's just "fuck it, lets fire a few Killing curses and see what happens". When he isn't sure how to respond or interact with a person and not sure how the person will react, he's just "fuck it, lets just fire a killing curse at the bitch. Atleast I can be sure that'll he'll react by dropping dead, right?". When he's alone, he probably faps by repeating "avada kedavra .... avada kedavra ..... avada kedavra" as jerks off his "wand", which then shoots out slimy green spunk.
That bir when Graves nod and decided to fight and attack always gets me. I mean Collin Farrell needs to come back as the real Graves somewhere in the remaining installments.
What bothered me the most about this scene was how calm and collected everyone was as Grindelwald not only deflected and was killing off the auror's but he kept up his pace while doing so. Soldiers can do that, hardened criminals can do that but I find what counts as the wizard police not even flinching is just downright odd.
@@valaxius You'd still give a reaction if someone next to you just fell down dead and this doesn't explain why the women (the president I think?) gives no sign of emotion. This was an oversight in the film that could of been easily addressed.
@@anonymous99923 But they weren't. They just kept on launching spell after spell with straight faces. If they were indeed shocked then they should of had the actors portray that with surprised/horrified looks. Not straight faces. This is what I think anyway.
