"FBI-Orchestrated Conspiracy": Judge Orders Release of 3 of Newburgh 4 Tied to Fake NY Bomb Plot

For the past 14 years, relatives of four men jailed on terrorism charges in Newburgh, New York, have accused the FBI of entrapment. On Thursday, a federal judge agreed and ordered the release of three of the men known as the Newburgh Four: David Williams, Onta Williams and Laguerre Payen. The men had been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a government-orchestrated bombing plot of a New York synagogue in 2010. In a stunning decision, the judge accused the FBI of inventing a conspiracy. With the men set to be released within 90 days, we speak with lawyers Kathy Manley and Stephen F. Downs from the Coalition for Civil Freedoms about the monumental ruling, the legal issues with entrapment and what the ruling means for the many cases like this one. The fourth man convicted, James Cromitie, is expected to seek compassionate release.

Dea entrapment has created an industry of "consultants" who charge drug arrestees 70-100 thousand dollars, to set up another drug sting on their behalf, and get someone else arrested. Then the Dea allows a 50 % discount on the first person's sentence for "cooperating".

There is a guy in his sixties on the eleventh year of a 26 year sentence because a clown FBI operative got him to sign a post-it note and put it in his pocket saying he want to kill a judge. He is on tape insisting that he didn't want to hurt anyone, but the operative insisted. This was set up so a friend of this guy could be charged with conspiracy, they needed another person to make it a conspiracy. They never entrapped his friend, but they just lied and convicted him anyway

I remember watching a documentary about this case on HBO and thinking this was a clear cut example of government entrapment. I’m happy that this case is being highlighted and it needs to be spoken about. There are too many cases of government entrapment and it shows to what levels that the government Will stoop to in order to get a garner a conviction.

U have to remember how corrupt this system is, this is the same judicial system that will have all the DNA proof and evidence of corrupt cops/investigations and still make innocent victims jailed for decades stand up and admit guilt in order to be released....even though they have been clearly proved innocent. Remember the white kids in the south they accused of Satanism etc and they still made all of them plead guilty and one was willing to stay because he wouldn't do it, but they would hold the other 2 if he did so he folded. The govt refuses to be wrong even when it clearly admits it is. Nasty work.

Great bravery and reporting. I’m glad that these gentlemen were freed. This was a true miscarriage of justice. Those resources could have been used to fight terrorism rather than entrapping destitute people.

The 4th guy was the ringleader of the four. The informant who orchestrated this farce recruited him at a mosque and then he recruited the other three. He knew that one was mentally disabled and still was willing to feed him to the wolves. He was under the impression that after the job was done, he'd get $250,000 and was on tape with the informant saying he didn't care about the others getting paid, he was ready to sell them out. He should still be freed, but he was the one on hundreds of hours of tape talking about blowing up whatever had to be blown up, doing whatever for money and jihad. He was entrapped but he recruited the others and said a lot of very incriminating things on all those hours of tape, that could be why, I'm not sure though. For the record I am just trying to objectively explain, I am not in any way justifying the entrapment.

While it's nice to see these men being "compassionately" released, wtf is with the ruling judge's comments about them at 00:57!? Totally condescending! And, as it turns out she was the "hapless" one who ruled on the original case and got them locked up for no reason for years. She should be disbarred at the very least.

Well they did involve themselves in a violent plot for money, whether or not they actually intended to commit the crime or aligned themselves with jihad. The point of the story is not to make heroes out of these men, but to expose the government tyranny and corruption that manufactured the war on terror.

I've always said follow the cases and case studies of these people in law enforcement! You'll find a ton of evil and entrapments going on. The very people placed in charge of policing are committing the worst crimes! Crimes against humanity....
