In this video we help diagnosis and troubleshoot the sequential twin turbo system in the Mazda RX-7 FD model with the 13B rotary engine. This was filmed during a live issue with my RX-7. The second turbo was not kicking on. I had primary turbo boost but after the changeover I got nothing. I will video the process till I find a solution or come to a conclusion.

Very helpful. Just ordered a set of those check valves after banging my head against a boost issue for months. Hopefully that's the issue.

Let me know what happens. My issue was a small hose in the back of the rear turbo that came off.

Crazy I came across this :). I have a fuel leak and replacing my FPR. Decide I am about to replace almost everything I see the hood now. Going to stay with my factory setup but replacing everything I can while I have it all apart. Might even get the engine rebuilt 😂. I am at 100+k miles on my black base model.

I had the same thing with my FD where the second turbo wasn't working. After verifying that all vacuum lines were hooked up properly, the way I diagnosed my solenoid issue was to tee my boost gauge into each of the lines that go to the charge actuator valve (the big one that allows exhaust flow to the second turbo). This one will have a pressure side and a vacuum side. The pressure side wasn't working as it should so I replaced the solenoid that corresponded, and problem solved!

Dude I owned a '94 Montego Blue with tan leather. I paid Rotary Performance in Garland TX probably $15,000 in upgrading it. Sorry Vipers...lol

Welcome to 30 year old FD stuff. Expect all rubber items near the keg and turbos to be in this shape, Just went through this with my FD and had the same issue with the same hoses, they explode when a little bit of force. Just typical Maintenance with these cars after this period of time. If you need to change anything in the rats nest, might as well replace everything under there and be good for another 30 years rather than fight with old parts. The cost isn't that much vs the benefit of replacing everything.

I just bought an FD with stock twins and engine cut off as soon it hit 8psi. What could it be? Boos leak? ?

Hey how are you wondering if you possibly had these issue. I have looked through forums but cant seem to find out. My issue aside from picking up a RHD rx7, is that I notice at different speeds and rpm's sometimes my car feels like I hit a brick wall. The issue is intermittent but recently it has been happening more and more. I'm worried that I'm going to toast the engine. I thought initially it was a JDM speed cut, but recently it cut out at 3000 rpm in 1 st gear at 35 mph while taking off. Also has notice a surge when at idle which was not present prior. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated. By the way the RX is a 1994 model with 49000 miles on it a.

@@DriversTherapy Yes all stock JDM RHD, well today it got worse. I went out for a ride earlier approx 30 minutes away. I went to a buddies house and as I was leaving she started to buck and surge at idle . I revved her up a little thinking that it was bad gas as I had just filled her up prior to leaving the house. When I revved her up black soot smoke came out the exhaust and she cut off. I stopped at a Red light and started her up and she was surging and wanting to die. Turned around and took her back to my buddies house. I left it parked at my buddies and came back 2 hours later. I started her up and she surge up and down. I began to driver her back home and the Over heat exhaust light came on JDM model. It Smelled like really cooked gas dieseling smell. Light was intermittent and the smell was now entering cabin. I Finally got home still surging at idle. I saw another one of your videos and attempted to get a code. Initially I got code 12 then i turned ignition of and tried to repeat the code and then got code 11. Wondering if the cat clogged or a coil went bad. She only has approx 49000 miles as It was imported and the guy told me that the cluster had been change do to it going bad. New kilometers read 8200 kh. She looks low mileage but who knows. Could a cat go bad at that low mileage. Thank you again for all your help its greatly appreciated.
