While he said it in a rather twisted way, Dimitri’s got a point; regardless of civilians or non-combatants, Randolph still killed people in Garreg Mach.
Dimitri is right though. All knights, warriors etc have killed countless people, most of them "just doing their job", probably not even seeing them as actual humans to distant themself and make it easier to hit the final blow and not even thinking a second about their life, the family they leave behind, the pain. But yet they are begging for their own life, only seeing this reality when it is about themself. Dimitri is self aware about this and knows what he is doing, what destroys himself but he still does it as he needs to for the ghosts he hears wanting revenge but also as a knight and for the future of the country by defeating the enemy. That (minus the ghosts) is what all warriors do but Dimitri is one of the few who thinks about victims as individuals and actually cares about them, which is why his mind turns darker and darker. Others like Rudolph distance themself enough to not care. So in a weird way by admiting that he is a monster himself, Dimitri is less a monster than most other knights or warriors. He is such a well written character and makes people think about things and maybe even turn it to something better. He at least helped me to do what neither medication nor therapy was able to do. Overcome my depression and be able to fight it off when it tries to come back. (Excuse my English)
