Feather swords are great users of the Master’s Gauntlets. It lets them turn their passive points into damage. If you’re willing to give them some support, a soldier can give them crits and they can use the Dancer’s Delight sword (from the hidden mountain town by Drakenhold’s capital) to get a reasonably strong crit kill chain going until the soldier runs out of PP. It’s still not S tier or anything, but it’s pretty decent. Mostly I like Feathersword in early and mid game as a tanky-ish dodge tank that can actually survive a couple of ranged assists, and this combo gives them something worthwhile to do with their AP.
They already have a way to turn PP into damage. Its discharge. I understand people love trying to figure out how to use dancer's delight without their units dying from allowing enemy soldiers to still exist past the 4th action and beyond. But dancer's delight isn't really an optimal weapon, just a fun thing to build around.
I think as an evasion tank, they are pretty solid since they have a good guard rate and get shields. So even if they get hit, good chance they don’t die. But I agree with you. They just lack that punch. Their early active skills kind of suck. They have the stats that if they just had a better ability, they’d be amazing. Otherwise, they just sit in the front.
Yeah same for me. Ochlys is insane early where dodge tank are absurdly strong Also ennemy cant target backline that easely so in 3 or 4 formation Ochlys can just frontline and be nearly invincible Ochlys is also prepromoted so early its just more absurd. (2 ap --> x2 dmg)
Dancers Delight + Masters Gauntlet, pair them with Chloe/Soldier for keen call - probably falls off later in the game, but super fun when you get access to it ~lvl20. The attacks are ranged as well, so she can hit the backline. Or just slap the nighttime block shield so she has free blocks at all times of the day in case she doesn't evade
Featherswords buff themselves. They only need 3buffs to do 200% Potency damage on Honed Slash. You just need to find the right mix of group wide buffs.
This unit is good early game with Ochlys doing good work for the first third, but after that she starts getting outclassed by the other units you get. Imo there's no reason to run one of these over a featherbow
I think in the first area any unit that is pre-promoted is going to be super good... but then you quickly get other pre-promoted units that are better and then you gain access to promotion and suddenly there's not a good place for them.
Thank god I’m not the only one struggling to use them. Oclys was the frontline to my most flexible unit until Elheim. I supported her with a devoted Arrow Guard and that was all the defensive utility she needed to never take any damage and I could use all the PP for Pursuit. Then I hit Bastorius and suddenly she’s completely exposed and dying left and right without even any archers in sight. Unfortunately all they can really do late game is buff themselves for that big attack and then they’re done for the entire battle and since they don’t have any abilities that let them filter AP or PP they can’t take on other roles in a squad. But at least all the other angel classes are way more useful.
I think this is one for the stronger class in PVP. Fly can hit the rear, the small shield is versatile for survivability or block for others, aerial flag can buff up to 3 air units, that’s 3 buffs for the discharge. Accelerate itself is 2 buffs. Try Griffen, feather bow, and feather sword front line. It’s amazing.
Yep, early game is a dodge thank and during day figths diurnal guard is excellent and the extra pp is good to suuport the party, self boosting is not that good jus the dodge.
Ochlys and umerus are primarily for tanking and they're one of the best at it being evasion tanks who can guard the truestrike hits other evasion tanks die to. There's no point in her offense aside from debuffing enemies for your nukers to take advantage of. accelerate and discharge are indeed trash. the best use of their PP is to buff allies like with inspiration or quick impetus. overall still a good unit i'd put in the a-tier for their superior tanking ability. Shes for the front not for the backline.
I paired with a witch and a breaker. Witch confers magic stuff and the breaker can dip into some ofnthst as well. Festhersword is a good tickler to open up a charactwe without killing it and then the breaker can go on a streak/secure a kill
An armored flyer is really attractive but the frontline angels are pretty underwhelming. Being okay at both guardrate/evasion is less useful than maxing out in either one, but at least the feathershielders can counter magic (if only you didn't get them at lvl 30)
Since she is ranged can she potentially just be a fast unit that can drop Squishies/Casters in the back row and then spend the rest of the round evade tanking?
thats the only unit i didnt use in my playthrough, it can work obv with the right setup but you can get so many better teams with less prepping that it just dosent feel worth
I agree they're a bottom tier unit. I’d rather use the other angel units in almost every case, let alone if I can use any other unit. I don't think they're useless, its just in ideal scenario you do all this buff stacking and at most they take out 1 enemy unit, blow most their AP/PP and probably lose all their buffs from discharge. They're probably best as support units to use item skills like gambler's coin, cat hoods, etc. since they're still reasonable tanks without any PP. Even then a feathershield probably better (better hp, better guard%, better guard efficiency, better defenses, less evasion if you don't use mirage shield but you're still flying, and if they get their turn they can trade 1 AP for 2 PP). All these folk that think dancing sword are good, I'm not sure where they got that impression. I'm not saying its bad but ideally you kill enemies before they can use their AP/PP and typically your teams should be able to kill enemy teams in 1-2 actions even on TZ. Any dancing sword gimmicks would be enabling enemy units you're killing with dancing sword on actions 4th/5th action and beyond to have used all their AP and probably PP as well.
Have you tried that Aerial Standard thing? It gives triple buffs at start of combat for my all angel unit (front row). I also have Raynes give Tailwind and Sanatio with the heal buff, so Umerus and Ochlys hit with like a 5-6 buff discharge Honed Slash (not sure if tailwind counts as 1 or 2 buffs). Im using Wingcrest gear, so no crits, but they can at least put out ~200 damage nuke. Literally feel like Aerial Alignment (I think that is what it is called) is the only thing that lets Featherswords be somewhat viable lategame by giving triple buffs lmao (much better on like...triple wyrm or gryphon for sure though)
Featherswords really cannot offer anything other than dodge tank. Their big damage needs a lot of setup that you probably can only swing once. Might as well run Swordmaster with scarf and pair it with Cleric+Barcelet/Gambler.
@IcedCoffeeGaming I like to setup crazy things like 2 swordmasters in front to meteor rush 6 times with seargent to grant ap and mage to give magic conferral to specifically have a weteowl to keep charging my magic conferral unit to let my swordmasters run over the front line as my mage uses thunder to stun the back
I'm going a race/unique/nation only units run. The angels have done well for me. The two swords and bow up front, staff and shield in back. With the Wingline Standard, Honed Healing, and the Accelerate/Discharge combo, they are killing units even through guard, except against heavy guards, with ease. You're stacking 6 buffs before their Honed attack. The bow is set to to blind True strike units and pursuit twice with 3 AP, so she gets 3-4 attacks. The unit generally does a good job against most things you send flying units against.
Would have made discharge just give more damage based on buffs instead of consuming them. Also the class is a bit trying to do various things, high dodge while also having a shield giving it some bulk. The meta being more aoe focused doesn’t help their single target thing, perhaps if they balance AOEs like in darkest dungeon where aoe attacks hav3 decently lower damage so you need to hit various enemies to get potentially more damage than a single target hit and normalize it for all classes.
If honed slash was just a row and/or board nuke that started at like 50 potency and went up 20 or 30 per discharge stack it would be way better. Especially if it worked off all buffs she receives. But yeah her blowing basicly all her ap/pp into a single target attack that needs set up is just not worth at all.. Especially with how average her base stats are..
I think discharge just doesn't fit into how the game is balanced. it is supposed to be a "huge final attack" after you've built all your buffs up over the course of the battle but the game rewards having big opening attacks way more (since the faster you remove enemies from the board the less time they have to use their AP and PP). its the same reason low initiative is such a huge downside to Berserkers and other slow classes that otherwise might have pretty good moves. Maybe if discharge made the attack it activates for hit "number of enemies equal to the number of buffs consumed" or "double damage if it consumes at least 5 buffs" or something.
Hey ICG thanks for the video and enjoyed your TZ streams. Speaking about the balance of the game do you think it would have been better to nerf the base damage of board wipes and maybe to a lesser extent row and column? I feel like the AOEs dont really have many downsides which is why alot of the units feel invaidated once you hit a certain point in the game. Maybe have buffs like conferrals have a weaker effect on AOEs? Not sure but was wondering about your thoughts on it.
Not sure about nerfing them, it could just make the game less fun, I'd rather they buff enemy teams and buff weak classes so the board nukes are still good but just no longer OP
I mean the only reason Ochlys was considered good is because she built a reputation from the demo and her power there is entirely about being a pre promote and have 2/2 AP/PP. Agree totally, the unit isnt very good
