Pistol rank 3 is broken, doesn't work at all, no damage increase. Pistol rank 4 is borderline useless - moderate increase in crit chance after a kill but only for a measly 5 seconds. Pistols themselves are pretty good, but the pistol certification is crap.
I don't see any problem with Swordmaster, except in Blazing Blade, because Blade Lord outclasses it in almost everything, except critical boost which is already covered by Lyn supporting Hector for a critical boost. It's basically a choice between the regular Swordmaster and a Swordmaster 1.5.
Hortensia is garbage, only cause you have to change the games language to Japanese so she doesn't annoy the shit out of you with her minnie mouse whining.
Avoid tanking. I’ll be honest, Avoid tanking isn’t such a bad idea. Mainly, because taking damage just drives me insane. HOWEVER! As soon as I reach Alear’s paralogue AND BEAT IT, I am planning on having Ivy reach B-Support with Pannete and then give the Pact Ring to Nel!
I just turned her into a berserker and her hp and strength shot through the roof. I did give her starsphere, but I also gave that to half my units so I wouldn't call that special treatment. I wouldn't even bother with sniper Alcryst or Etie since they're both terrible long term.
I'm trying 3 houses maddening. I found your silver snow guide, but it looks like not all chapters are available (stops at 13 or 14). By chance are they named something else?
Your videos are super great and extremely helpful, you’re very clearly quite knowledgeable about the game and it’s a valuable learning tool for those like me who are newer to the series :) I do want to say though, it may help you out to have a bit of a script or do some editing down of your videos, as I’ve noticed(and I swear I don’t mean this in a rude way) that you tend to kind of monotonously drone on and it can be kind of hard to get the info down that way. Think of it like an engaging teacher in school vs one that just kind of talks AT you, ya know? And I think there’s some pretty easy steps to circumvent such an issue when you clearly have a lot of love and passion for the subject you’re talking about and have a nice sounding voice :)
Lip's Ring is S+ Game Breaking. You have that effect trigger on the Dreadnought? She uses Penetrate with her Hawk Eye ability? Uses the coin? It now doesn't matter. No build can survive this, except one that uses an Owl. It is now a 5 vs 3 fight.
The Lisa and Rolf replacement lol. Its funny how you finally get an archer than isn't dogshit at a stage of the game the difficulty is starting to ramp up.
I feel like the amount of options offered by games like Engage makes it a more sandbox feel in terms of builds, erasing unit identity to a degree. I mean... how many of us haven't had a squad with almost all fliers/wyverns? Sure, some builds -assuming maddening difficulty- are going to be good, fun, great, very much meta(defining), and others are going to be Bunet/Etie-tier or test your patience like Jean. Fine, I'll concede that those out-of-combat mechanics can be nifty and add some replayability and flexibility, to make people's experience unique and different. Which is perfectly fine, Fire Emblem **has** had the reputation for being too difficult, hard to get into and even gatekeepy at times: so by all means, make it more beginner-friendly. However, using those tools -again, assuming maddening- works against, and somewhat trivializes the strategy/puzzle aspect of planning and in-map execution, which can be relied on your top 2-3 units to just stomp through with upgraded, engraved weapons, powerful rings and inherited skills. Class archetypes and the intricacies of them, how they work together to form a strong army, end up barely mattering if none of the aspects that make a unit (archetype) feel unique aren't present. Side note: i can't tell you how much time I've sunk into planning builds that never come to fruition, because there's only so much time and energy I can spend on a single video game, so they end up on the cutting floor, to gather dust and become forgotten. Builds that in-theory sound like they are fun, powerful, but pivotting to the build isn't "optimal", and starting over is a time-sink. In that regard, I like ringless no-somniel conceptually.
basically a worse thief unless its night then its just as broken as any other evasion build in the game lol. I still think the elves are the most broken thing in the game cuz they fill every single role but being a bruiser tank so they are just better than every generic beast character. Just put a team of Dodge tank elves in the front and put angels buffing the hell outta them in the back and just sleep through the game afterwards lol.
All the unique armor characters but Allain are so broken lol. Reason why I say but Allain is because Allain is more mid outside his mobility and sustain he doesnt have the ridiculous utility and damage output that Berengaria, Virginia, and Amalia have. Those 3 just turn the game on it's head lol.
In this order, I gave the following engravings to these following weapons on Normal: Beginnings - Libération Holy - Levin Sword Echoes - I tried giving it to a Silver Lance, but I don't know if it was a good idea, considering I didn't know what to give the engraving to. Dawn - Silver Dagger. Binding - THUNDER Genealogy - Longbow (don't ask why) Blazing - Thought in process Awakening - Thought in process Radiance - Thought in process Dragons - Haven't thought about it. Strength - Haven't thought about it. Acumen - Haven't thought about it (then again, Soren's an asshole, so why bother.) Bonds - Thought about engraving it on Alfonse's sword, but I slapped it on to another +5 Levin sword. And give it to Céline. Revelations - Haven't thought about it. Rivals - Commander Anna's axe. Heroes - Elsurge! I have a plan for the Fates Engraving, but I need to go through the rest of the story and recruit Veyle first.
Rapier is S. Swiftboots to the enemy, esp if turned around. Start smacking, 2-3 hits for big guys down. Even bosses drop like flies with a melee boost taken.
I challenge Iced Coffee Gaming to do a big multi video guide on a unique game that doesn't veer too much from strategy gaming, but is more JRPG rather than tactical. Game in mind... Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes. Don't see too many creators on RU-vid doing this game.
@IcedCoffeeGaming 😂😂😂... I figured. I will never forget your Triangle Strategy phase. Your guides turned my team into a BEAST. I WILL find that next hidden gem.
One of my favorite thing about class archetypes is that it gave physical infantry a niche. No matter how powerful wyvern knights are in stats and mobility, they can't chain attack. Not without the lucina ring. So only one flyer can chain attack. Wyvern knights are less dominant in Engage than in Three Houses because you have physical units that fill a niche that flyers can't, not without giving it a ring. Which is why I love this game. I'm not really good at strategy games, but Engage gives me the ability to break the rules with one character through the rings. But it does give you a limit, because there's only one of each ring.
Currently doing a no-reclassing run and it definitely feels like re-classing was something that was thrown in the game last minute because the difference in unit performance (mainly the top tiers who need a reclass) is astounding. Also not being able to re-class Alear into a flier for bonded Air Force ramps up the difficulty so much. I do think rings, crafting and such should remain but things like bonded shield should be toned down because doing a run with vs without bonded shield is night and day
Off topic but New game plus moving forward should be a thing too, it greatly encourages replay - Engage really really needed new game plus that retained SP for the characters
The DLC campaigns of FE:3H and Engage tell me that IS/KT would have to visualize a game from the ground up with pared down mechanics to have a chance at making the game described here. In both games the devs attempted a version with stripped down mechanics (Xenologue/CS) which are widely panned. Imo this is because the devs got too used to the wiggle room afforded by build flexibility to remember how to balance the game using its fundamentals. Still, people like juggernauts and min/maxing, so flexibility is likely more marketable
I engraved Chrom on a second Levin sword. Why I did that is beyond me. All I know is that Chrom’s engraving is the same as Sigurd’s engraving, except that Chrom’s engraving increases DODGE by 20.
