i prefer to think of sorcerers innate magical ability meaning they don't have to do things the way a wizard has to. they don't need materials or gestures unless its a big cost sort of thing. "flexible spellcasting" doesn't really capture the idea of having a natural wellspring of power inside you to draw from on it's own. if you are innately magical you should be able to just throw a chromatic orb when you want without needing a focus or pouch. save that for higher levels.
The only spellcaster I wouldn't recommend Warcaster for are shield and mace Clerics since it's been confirmed that if their shield is emblazoned with the holy symbol then they can use that as their spellfocus and don't need to gesture (same for Paladins) and Artificer because they're the only spellcaster proficient in Con and as Zwordsman mention they're focus item (tools at level 1, Enhanced Arcane focus infusion at level 2, combined with Arcane firearm at level 5) replaces the need for gestures.
This is true, this however only take care of one aspect of the feat. Being able to cast spells as an opportunity attacks is really good for anyone that has cantrips really. Also being proficient in con. saves allows you to double down on save when taking damage as this grants you advantage so its even better if you have both. Personally I thing 2 of the 3 are good enough to take this feat. Not to mention you can forgo having to make the Enchanted Arcane focus and use it for something else if you have this feat also as well.
@@challengeratingepic Those are some fair points. For those two specific classes it merely bumps Warcaster from being a 'must have' to a 'very good' feat putting it on par with Spell Sniper for Artillerist Artificers (which also grants a bonus cantrip). Now Battle Smiths will probably get a lot of use out of Warcaster because of the opportunity attacks with Booming Blade. It's still a very good feat but not quite as top tier as it is for non Artificers.
I'd just like to point out that having looked at Artificer a little deeper...you are correct Warcaster is amazing on Artillerist. I forgot that you could craft common magical items from Xanthar's guide. This includes the Ruby of the War mage. So...you take Ruby of the War Mage, put it on your favorite weapon, take War Caster and boom, you can cast while holding a heavy Crossbow since both Material and Somantic components are taken care of and you can do this as early as level 4...
Yep one seems to be more common than the other. Though amusingly on my artficire (which hadn't come out yet at this vid). They get the casting baked in sort of. (they get imposed focus item requirement on all spells, which overrides all somatic/non cost materials. and then can replace their required focus item with an infused item) So spell sniper is quite appealing on some builds. Like my Artilirist with Ray of Frost slow down +push back turret
