I love my M8.2. It’s one of my all time favorites. I’ve owned many Nikon’s since the FM and FE and digital Nikon cameras beginning with the D1H. I also currently use the M4-P, M6 and M240. The color from the M8.2, with an IR cut, is beautiful. I shoot it like a film camera. I turned the screen off, and don’t review as I shoot. I keep it on ISO 320 and enjoy the experience.

I absolutely love my m8.2 and I've been shooting it for years now! In fact during this lock down every day at home as a bit of a project! I think this is one of the first videos on the Leica m8.2 camera I've seen. Nice one.

Colin, would you recommend the M8.2 over the M8 to get into Leica? I shoot Fuji (X100T & X-Pro1 for years now) with the occasional Nikon FE film. Coming from Film I still like it, but over here in Switzerland it is a hassle to get good developing and costs are just too high....leica as you know, is dream to own, never shot with one. Shoot my Fujis mostly manual and with the OVF. It is quite a decision to buy a Leica. So no rush. Two M8 popped up locally, M8 with 3K shutter count for 1.100.- (more or less 1-1 in USD) and a M8.2 absolut new for 1.7K. Would you say the 8.2 new is worth the difference? Cheers from Switzerland

@@michel559 I have had nothing but great experiences with my Leica M8.2 I got this used back in I want to say 2011. I was shooting a lot of surf photography aka sports and using Canon L glass so was dipping my toe in with this purchase. The M9 was out and the flavour of the month so the M8.2 was a lot cheaper, if honest I didn't even know the differences at the time between the M8 and M8.2, it just so happened an M8.2 came up first locally to me in Australia. The standard M8 has quite a loud shutter if you haven't heard it before. The m8.2 is significantly quieter as Josh said in the video. I have taken my M8.2 to North America twice, Asia a few times (jungles, dusty volcano areas, urban areas) and Europe a load of times. It's really been everywhere with me. so for 10 years its still my main digital M! It is looking pretty braced up at this stage. Authentic bracing I'd call it, given I do mind my gear but eventually it just wears. I don't mind the worn look. I agree with Josh in the video the finish is gorgeous. Easily my favourite looking Leica M digital finish. When I saw the new M10, I was like wow I like it but why oh why the finish!! Make it black paint, brace top and bottom plates and I'm all in! I just have a thing of the black paint finish personally. I shoot the M8.2 alongside a first batch Leica M4 with either HP5 or Tri X film. Basically the idea being in a fairly small bag I have an M4 film body, the M8.2 digital body and 28, 35 and 50 all fairly compact. That's everything I need. I think if you can get an M8.2 in good condition at a semi close price to the M8, get the M8.2 as it's more unique, it has one of the most gorgeous finishes ever. I would say though, it is electronic and of course they are over a decade old now so buying from some reputable place like Leica Store Miami / other where they CLA it or at least stand over the purchase would give you peace of mind. Through the pandemic and lockdowns in Europe I've just loved using this camera. The photos I get off the M8.2 are just gorgeous, right out of camera. if you love it for what it is, it's not some high megapixel high ISO mega machine. If you enjoy it within it's limits you'll love it. It is a CCD sensor so high ISO is a no go. For fun I shoot it as a black and white camera over ISO 1250 and it's my digital tri x. Also at iso 160 I've upsized the prints nicely and they worked well really well. Not all 10 megapixel sensors are made equally it would seem. The M8.2 has a special place in my heart that is for sure. Good luck finding one and have fun.

@@colinosullivan930 wow, what an answer. Thanks a lot, very much appreciated! Ah surfing.....I went to Australia in 1997, stayed with a home stay family in Perth for a few months, learnt english and surfing 😉, well just a bit of course, enough to enjoy it very much. Also practiced soccer with Perth Glory. Travelled the country for another few months. Returned for another 1/2 year in 99/00, soent the millenium in Sydney, Manly beach. Funny I didn‘t end up in Australia, loved it. Of course, 22yo no worries at all, whats not to like huh 😉. I did some photography in school as a teenager, 3 semester I think, was a volontary course, learnt to know the cameras at hhe time, the darkroom, developing etc. then lost interest somehow and restarted doing it a bit more seriously a few years ago when the kids came along. Got the Fuji X100T, my only camera for nearly 5yrs. Tbh for everyday life, travel, family all one needs really. If just to document stuff. I really like it. Stil great. Even think the 16MP sensor is a sweet spot fir APSC. If compared to the newer 24+MP X100... and X-Pro... the pictures look less digital, less clinical sharp, just a touch more organic looking, maybe we old guys from the film days long for that less digital look whereas the new generation wants everything tak sharp and min. 50MP to crop the hell out of it 😉😂, but hey, I am just a hobbyst, love the imperfection and I enjoy the whole process not just the final picture. For me a camera is a ‚love‘ affair, I need to love the look, love the feel, love the character of it, with all its quirks....a camera for me needs a soul. I think it is fair to say it is a relationship 😉. That is the hobbyist speaking 🥳. Got a X-Pro1 for half nothing with the 18/2 and 35/1.4 and also love it. The pictures are great. My neighbour gave me his Nikon FE, really git into shooting film again, man I missed it. But it is tough here, one lab really, no with corona just open for drop ins...I haven‘t got to know them...it is just a bit of hassle and not cheap at all...still love it. I really don‘t know if I rather opt for a film Leica, M6 maybe or go digital...guess Film camera would have less issues as their digital counterpart....somehow I think the film camera would have a more sentimenal value. But I don‘t know if I would should it regularly. Also dunno if I have the knowledge to do developing at home and also scanning...I would love that! I don‘t take 1000 of pictures when I go shooting, actually a lot of times I treat it like film, 36 shots on a fotowalk. Love the minimalistic approach. With small kids, work etc not much time to go crazy, so quality over quantity. Film would work. And I realised I much prefer rangefinder to slr, looks snd handling. Yeah read that about the paint and the shutter sound of the M8. 🤔 I am just a bit hesitant as I cannot justify the costs of it...but I know I would love and treasure a leica!
