Now thats a properly built wrx. Gutted, built motor.l, and not overly flashy but a nice clean style. I expected more power. But this car seems fun to drive.

Reliability is lovely. Sure he can push it more but if he's competing in something, he's going to value being able to actually show up, race, and drive it home every week. Much cheaper to go this route in the long run. Plus, the car is like 300 pounds lighter than stock. No need for big numbers when you don't weigh anything.

Question..how big of an spacer are you talking about? Because running huge spacers on 7.5", isn't it putting more strain on the wheelbearings?

This is why I don't plan to ever modify my STI aside from bolt ons. A lot of effort gutting the car and it still weighs more then my factory 97 gc8 sti ra V-limited. I'll keep the modifying for my Evo 6. I have just bolt ons and that thing makes ruffly the same hp.

Actually it isn't the chassis, it is the driveline. The newage 6 speed is about 80 lbs heavier than the 5 speed gearboxes. Add brembos, r180 diff etc. Look at people who've done a full 6 speed swap into a gc8, comes out about 3200lbs. My spec c is 2900lbs with a full interior.

My old bugeye non turbo was 2650lbs. It isn't just an extra gear. The whole casing is different. The 6 speed weighs nearly twice the 5 speed. 80lbs there. Probably 50lbs on the brakes. 4 pots vs 2 pots, Bigger wheels, cross section and diameter, heavier seats, beefier differentials. The gd body is between 100-130lb heavier when you compare the chassis alone.

@@MichaelSeeds 100% this is something that people just don't understand until they have installed one of these on the ground lol. It's a massive upgrade and amount of weight added all around the drive train.

Removes interior, including sound deadener and cuts inside door sheetmetal because rally cars don't need that shit but has no cage to protect himself. I can tell he is a very smart man.

How do you smog it with the engine swap?

It has usdm heads so he can use the stock ECU and accessport. So from a emissions standpoint it's the same engine just more reliable. If he had JDM STI heads to match the block then you would run into issues as you then need either a jdm ecu or an aftermarket ecu. which lack to ODB2 port used for emissions testing. The AVCS with the STI heads is going to be a lot better out the gate but you can always port out the usdm heads to match the performance.

@@Nelbone I have 92oct and made 357whp with no engine work and a Cobb 20g on a mustang Dyno. So I don't think that's as much of a limiting factor as it is a conscious choice to limit power

Colin1337 then it’s probably what you said, overbuilt and I’d bet conservatively tuned. High torque kills these cars so I’d dial back too especially with that much invested. A 5858 maxes at like 600hp so this thing isn’t exactly working hard but still plenty of fun.

Colin1337 it is capable of more :) add e85 and a larger fuel pump for 400- 500 whp but the ease of 91 and reliability is more important for me atm.
