How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a RU-vid channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

You should get drone footage of all your pastures before you do everything you want to do with it and in a year or two when you get done with it I think it would be very interesting to see how much ground you reclaim with something like that

Get a front screen for the JCB, poly scratches MUCH easier than glass and a good screen can keep the scratches away longer. Get a pin on design and you can remove it easier. The ones I've made just use 4 tabs welded around the window opening and have a slotted bracket on the screen. 4 hitch pins hold it in place. Makes it easy to remove when not wanted. You can also upgrade that head if you can find a chunk of heavy grating, bolt it between the uprights to stop all the small stuff from getting through. Handy tip for nice looking areas, run it into an area 2" or so off the ground to get the majority, then tip the head down and set it on the ground and back over the area. That gets the leftovers and it picks up dirt and chips and mixes it somewhat like a tiller would so it looks better and rots faster.

Here are some of my findings running mulchers. 1 Use an angle grinder on the teeth you will get more life out of them. 2 Avoid rocks not your friend. 3 Like you said hardwoods dont grind up well 4 since the jcb does not have a external cooler watch the oil temps mulchers can be hard on hydro systems. You probably knew all of that but hopefully somthing was helpful. Fecon makes a very good product nice find and happy mulching!

I work at a construction equipment dealer that sells fecon. Their heads are the best you can get honestly. Very simple strong design. Vibrations come from uneven worn teeth or on the Vermeer ones it was from bad head bearings but the fecons almost never heave head bearings go. We get a local electric motor repair that comes out and balances them for us

for sure, got to kit the JCB up to be more forestry safe. though drum mulcher, really is the better win as you are able to clear a lot more area without going over it multiple times and also mix it into the ground(if you can dig into the ground a bit). make your life so much easier than just using the bush hog which that is good, but in wooded area, not the greatest.

I have a mulching head. Using the carbide teeth work great for areas where there may be hidden rocks. Knives are awesome! They speed up the process, grind into smaller pieces and are cheaper. But a rock will play havoc on knives for sure.

Nice up grade! Fecon makes a great aggressive eating machine. I ran large Fecon machine on the front of a Hydro-AX power unit and could clear 5 plus acres a day on golf courses construction projects. Teeth are expensive and seem to wear fast on rocky ground. Speaking of teeth or cutter bits, looks like you could use or may need a new set? Base upon the stumps you were chopping on; they should have disappear with just gravity down pressure on the unit; base upon my experiences. Cannot wait to see what you do upon getting comfortable in running this unit. My advice, consider heavy duty forestry overhead protection rack for the cab of the JCB; sometimes called the headache rack. When the widow makers come crashing down on the cab you will be thankful and soon realize why guys and gals call them head ache racks. Welcome to the logging and forestry world.

It's mind-blowing to know that a machine like that humongous mulcher exists. I agree with one of your commenters who said that you should get some drone footage of this machine, in action. The drone footage may help you sell it, 2 or 3 years down the road, if that is your plan. I very much enjoy your videos, and was glad to see Hannah with you.

@peteparker7396
@peteparker7396 Год назад
I’ve put thousands of hours using mulching heads. Nothing to be afraid of you just don’t stand in front of one and don’t nose it over to far where it can fling things back. The two things I noticed, the knock down bar is rolled to far back. There are holes to adjust it further to the front. The other thing and it’s a big one, your machine. Isn’t set up to truly run one. The constant flow causes heat. And you don’t have an additional hydraulic cooler. It will wear out your hydro system in a hurry. I also think you dont have enough flow. The fecon are good heads. Keep the bearings greased regularly. The best mulchers in my opinion are diamond mulchers. They have more and smaller teeth on the drum where the Fecon has bigger and less. Takes more power to run the fecon and the teeth do not last as long on a fecon.

I believe you have to get the drum balanced and tuned for your specific application. From my understanding the brush will eventually over time grow back because all the the mulcher head does is cut material flush to the ground. You must maintain with a brush killer or the mulcher.

I have been curious about matching a 3TS-8T with an aux high flow rate of 33 GPM to a mulcher that requires a minimum of 28 GPM and can take up to 45 GPM. I'm pleasantly surprised with your results. It can be done without stressing the 3TS, and it's understandable why the pair struggles with substantial hardwood stumps because the Fecon has reserve if JCB beefs up in future teleskids in the compact range.
