I have a large collection of FEDs, Zorkies and Kiev 35mm cameras. Every once in a while I take either my FED 3, FED 5C or Kiev 4 out and a roll of film just for a giggle. Nothing but sharp photos.

hello! thanks for watching and taking time to leave a comment. the fed 5 was my first foray into a soviet camera. and my first rangefinder too. i wanted to try something less expensive to see if i liked that type of camera. since then i have acquired a zorki and a kiev 4. i wear glasses and feel that i can get closer to nailing focus with a rangefinder than with a SLR. since the fed 5 was my first it kind of controls a special feeling, but i think i like the kiev best. thanks again for tuning into my channel. cheers, the Rabbit. =:3

Came across a "brand new" 5c still in packaging last night and impulse bought it. Thank you for the walkthrough.

hello. thank-you for watching and taking the time to leave such a nice comment! wow, you totally scored! i am very jelly! i am really happy that you found the video useful. since making the video i have rethought my method of guessing where the higher asa/iso would be (400) and just set the asa to whatever the highest asa marked is. then i just adjust for knowing that the meter is prolly reading a stop off and i need to stop down one stop. hope that makes sense lol 😂... thanks again for watching and leaving a comment! cheers, the Rabbit. =:3

@@AstralCMS i cant remember what my first rangefinder was, either the fed 5 or the cannon 7. whichever it was i became addicted ... i hope you find the rangefinder an enjoyable experience. the fed 5 is a good choice to try the waters. its a very nice camera at a reasonable price. a good choice to try and see if you enjoy rangefinders. the x700 slr is a nice camera too, i have used one and really liked shooting with it. thanks again for leaving another comment! cheers, the Rabbit. =:3

The Industar61 55mm is the best of the line.

It was a great video, I probably want to buy this camera, it would be better if you took some photos with it so that the samples of the photos can be seen, but anyway, thank you for your good video.👌 ‌

hello. thank you for watching the video and taking the time to participate in the comments. and thank you for your constructive criticisms. a ‘kiev 4am’ i purchased on ebay just came in the mail a couple of days ago. i was thinking of doing a comparison video with both cameras ... i will take your suggestion and include pictures with both :-) ... i really have fun taking pictures with my FED 5 ... i seem to get alot of ‘looks’ when i am out shooting with it ... im not sure why, maybe people are not used to seeing rangefinders? ... i develop my own film so the whole process of making a video takes a little longer and its raining out right now, but a new video is coming soon ... thanks again for watching, hope you enjoyed the show! the rabbit. =:3

@@CrusaderRabbit59 I am waiting for your interesting video. I suggest that you take pictures of the Milky Way galaxy at night with ISO 800 film. For this, you need to keep the shutter of your camera open for 10 minutes.👌
@MichaelRusso
@MichaelRusso Год назад
You can set the shutter dial before advancing the film but your results will not be what you expect. Lol... If you wear eye glasses, watch out! That eye piece scratches.

hello! lol yes its sort of like shutter roulette!! actually i have an old set of specks that have the coatings peeling at the edges, and i use those when shooting so i do not scratch up my newer pair. thank-you very much for watching and taking the time to participate in the comments. cheers, the Rabbit. =:3

The FED's are incredible camera's for all their low-tech offerings and basic construction, but function long after many other's are collecting dust on the shelves for one I'll or another. For those who really want to learn photography it can hardly be matched, being a stolid little workhorse of a 35 mm. The extra lenses are Elmar clones from early Leica designs, that if cared for and cleaned produce amazing images, being better made than many later Industar lenses. The only weak point with your FED V is the Selenium Diode that rest next to the lens. They age if not kept out of the light, frequently glue themselves to the inner light seals, or experience cold solder joints while being in storage. That Canon 7 is very pristine, and will likely cause you more trouble than your FED V ever will, being a much more delicate specimen where the electronics are concerned. Have a great week.

Got the same camera but the light meter barely moves. Any idea on how to fix it?

sorry no. i do have several selenium meters that are very old but still working. the oldest i think is my leica meter mc ... which i think was made around 1955ish? and it still works fine, its a hot shoe meter but i usually just stick it in my pocket as a backup to either a camera meter or a hand held meter. so its 65+ years old and matches my “trusted” meters within a stop. i have somewhere either read or watched someone saying that on a selenium meter, its not usually the selenium cell that goes bad, but the leads to/from the meter that get corroded. im not quite sure where i heard that, but its something that you might want to check at least to see if thats the issue that is causing you grief. hope that was helpful and good luck! =:3 ... and thanks for watching my video and leaving a comment!!

@John Evans hello. thank you for leaving a comment that could help a viewer of my video. i have never heard of this remedy but if the meter isnt working it certainly couldnt hurt lol 😂 and also a very good follow-up comment about protecting the shutter curtain ... i have heard that when shooting sunny 16 and you are stopped down to increase depth of field and/or focused to infinity just walking around without the lens cap could cause the focused light to burn holes. i dont know if that is true, but it certainly scares me enough to always put the lens cap on ... thanks again for participating in the comments section, cheers!! =:3

NO! The camera was not made in Kiev. It was made in the FED Commune just north of Krakov. FED stands for Felix Evonovich Drazinsky. The commune then made up of orphaned teenagers started to make copies of the Leica II and continued to modernize their cameras till the FED5C in the 90's. They also made copies of ther Leitz microscopes and Drills.

One guy calls Ukraine "the Ukraine", another confuses Polish Kraków with Ukrainian Kharkiv, and mangles the name of that bolshevik mf (his name was Felix Edmundovich Dzerzinsky, and he was of Polish descent). Can you use search engines, Wikipedia, do some research before publishing something online?

Nonsense! Poland has nothing to do with the production of FED. The FED production plant was in Kharkov, modern Ukraine (not Krakow!). To be precise, this is the USSR, not Poland
