Fazzy i have seen every single one of them, i dont know where you are going at, but it seems its the other way around since this is where federer absolutely destroyed his rival, and considering its djokovic the one he is playing against, its even less questinable
@@Luchon20082010 i did too, since 2005, and yet we both have pretty much diffenrent opinions... Well i am not saying it was a bad match, nope, rog played wery well, but if u saw the whole match, it was an pretty average encounter with some yeah amazing shots. But that doesnt have to mean it was one of his best matches of all time. I saw the match at least 3times the whole match, i enjoyed it since if am not mistaken it was last GS match between these two that federer won in straight sets... But on a defense of Djokobitch at that time he had only 1gs and his peak has had yet to come...Still wimbledon 2003 vs Roddick or 2005 US vs Nalbandian, 2011 vs Djokovic, 2009 AO vs JMDP, US 2004 vs Hewitt, And even AO 17 vs Rafa, (Atp finals 2006 vs Blake not an GS), were all much better performances than this..
@@fazzy2920 pretty average encounter? lol he was far better than against nalby 05 uso, rod 03 wimbledon? you can barely judge matches against clownish half opponents lacking all kinds of game. You are very wrong.
What a classy guy this Djokovic. So classy in defeat. He gets scored on with a tweener (amazing shot by Fed), and a point later he loses the match and is all smiles and congratulations. Tremendous respect for the guy!
Yeah, 3 years later, but you have to watch the Wimby's final 2015, the medical timeout tactical. Federer clutched the fourth set and in his momentum in the fifth, OMG DJO BROKE HIS ANKLE, medical timeout please, 75 minutes later, -ah, it's nothing, let's play. Result→ no more Federer's momentum and Djo wins.
federer has always been the benchmark for Rafa and Novak to raise their game to, even though they might have better head2head against RF they owe him a salute for being the very top to which they tried to surpass.
Dagorian Stark They ended Federer era in 2008 when he was still at his peak and young (27) , Novak beats him in the AO , Rafa RG and Wimby, Takes the World No.1 ranking
Alexander Federer's era continued , making 6 consecutive GS finals from USO 2008 till AO 2010, winning 4 of them and regaining no1 ranking. He started to decline after 2010, loosing to players not called Nadal and Djokovic. It is normal because he maintained a very high level between 2004 and early 2010, practically in his prime and that is already astounding.Every player declines.Djokovic started declining at about the same age, Nadal when he was even younger.
I'm not that kind of "fan" that tries to defend his hero even in absurd ways, but sometimes I think that Federer's H2H with Nadal and Djokovic is "penalized" by his incredible continuity over the years. He reached the deep stages of many tournaments, even when not in the best form or when very old. I'm not saying that every time he lost to them was because he was either in bad form or old. I simply think that this happened to him more times than to Nadal or Djokovic.
His movement was still great as he got older but his movement to the forehand side is where he slowed down. It's evident when watching these old clips. There are running forehands he hits here that he just could not hit throughout the 2010's. Got to give credit to Djokovic, he maintained his speed better than Federer and Nadal. His training tools are definitely more advanced. He spares no expense in taking care of his body, whereas Federer has always been more old school, didn't believe in all the fancy new technology.
@@sakshamsanwaria7486Whatever substances he inhales mid matches from his specific water bottle his team runs down to him ONLY ever in TV commercial timeouts. Novak is a doper. His PED use made him better than Fed and Nadal
This match is under-appreciated. This was the best match of 2009, and one of the best matches in tennis history. The shot-making here is of the highest quality. This is post-peak Federer at the end of his prime years (28) vs Prime-Nole entering his peak. Quite simply: the best attacking tennis vs the best defensive tennis the world has ever seen. Djokovic's domination in 2011-2016 is a much a result of his talent and hard-work as it is a response to Federer. You see Djokovic not only return Federer's 1st serves here, but attack them. Forcing Fed to use his imagination creating in-out forehand angles, drop-shots, passing shots, net-rushing, over-heads... it's freaking beautiful. Only for Fed to lose to Delpo in the finals. :-)
qing zhang I think you are right, though if at the ao 2010 he was aiming for a fourth in a row, it would have massively changed the dynamics and increased the pressure and tension of feds. Perhaps he would not have been at the same level there as we saw him.
+qing zhang exactly, it would have been the "Roger Slam" (like Serena did by winning Wimbledon this year). But a guy called Del Potro had to ruin the party....
When pressure and lack of confidence wasn’t a concern. It is on his face the difference here and other US open after losses against Nadal and Novak especially 2016 final he looked way much nervous.
As much as people say he dominated in 2004-2007 , i think he dominated until begin 2010 . I mean until then reaching 18 of last 19 GS finals is just ridiculous.
@@wihanvandermerwe hahahaha very funny story about FedEx dominance 25 weeks on top from 2010-20 .. NOVAK DJOKOVIC is GOAT off tennis game his dominance is unstoppable force and still counting 275 weeks on top... H2H on grand slam vs federer 7-0 For Djokovic
This is Fed still close to his prime and Djoker very close to if not already there. Fed was simply a better all around player . That tweener in the last game was legendary! Great match and extremely high quality from both players
Nole was nowhere near his prime here - you can see how immature he is during the crucial moments that he would convert after USO 2010. He acts weird and rushes instead of approaching things with calm mind. I think Roger's prime was late 2003 till late 2007. => So you are wrong on both accounts - its just that 80% from Roger and 60% of Nole is still insanely high quality
Tesla Death Ray sure he did, between 2006 and 2008 he was hitting the ball as hard as he could, almost ball bashing, his forehand swing was different and so was his serve motion. his current forehand technique allows him more accuracy and better angles.
After 2008, every year we have a different winner at US Open. Just shows how incredible it is for Roger to dominate the most unpredictable tournament for 5 years in a row!
After so many times I've watched this match on RU-vid, thanks for still recommending this to me from time to time, definitely one of the best tennis matches ever played. + the shot that perhaps will be remembered as the coolest shot ever hit in tennis.
And to think that 10 years later, Federer was still playing at an ultra elite elite level and made it to Wimbledon finals in 5 set match against Novak again. Novak won that of course, but that Federer was still that good in 2019! Wow!
Tuvo 3 bolas de torneo.. y novak las remontó.. federer se puso muy nervioso .. mereció esa copa pero djokovic tiene una mente fria para momentos importantes de los partidos.. nunca se pone nervioso
My favorite Federer racket by a distance, and his ball striking this entire year outdoors was beautiful. Not as powerful as the past, but a beautiful, crisp spin that created depth and height effortlessly.
5 years later and i still can't believe he lost us open 2009 final... 2020 later edit: Wimbledon final 2019 loss > us open 2009 final loss, think i'll remember that every time i drink
unowen7591 i cant believe the 2009 loss either At least win vs del potro and u have the roger slam. The ao final that year was also the same case But 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014 at the us open hurt the most. Cost him 2 gs at minimum
+Masterdoctorgenius14 2gs minimum? Lol, okay, lets not fool ourselves, Rafa would have spanked him in 2010... 2011 is another thing, but Rafa would go in as clear favorite, so, its 1, considering 09 he lost in the final anyway.
He got some justice with all the later wins 2011 onwards. Djokovic has always been brilliant. In fact only his mental game improved 2011 onwards. There has been no real change in his physical play in the last seven years. But Federer was in his prime here. Just too good for Djokovic. But Djokovic played very well. Federer served the best I've ever seen him serve in this match. They looked like Sampras serves.
@@ishaangupta4125 His forehand has declined for sure. Even this 2009 forehand wasn't as good as his peak 2004-2007 forehand. In the 2010s his forehand wasn't the threat it once was.
This and the 2010 vs Murray Australian open final are his best two god mode performances ever! Never seen such a demolition in a tennis match like in these particular ones
one of federer's best matches. in 2017, after he won no.18 people say his backhand is better than ever. I don't think federer's 2017 backhand is better than this version. most important thing is, federer's forehand is not as good as his forehand in this match. cannot believe it's 8 years now. how time flies. thank God, federer now has 18 slam titles.
FH definitely was more aggressive back then but then again he had all the confidence in the world. I feel he is a lot more humble now and that probably translates to how he plays nowadays. Nevertheless, his 2017 backhand is way better than this(technique-wise) and also the way he is stepping in the court is beautiful to watch.
And del Potro?? Buen chiste!!! Por supuesto según tú del Potro que no a ganado ni al póker mejor que Nadal?? Tú ves el tenis o tienes botones como los muñecos?
Wish we could have seen this Fed against prime Djokovic. Seriously, watch the highlights from his matches in the 2010s and compare it to here, he's so much faster here, but not only that, both backhand and forehand on tough shots on the move have just...so much more power and precision.
Federer is still the best. But I think Alcaraz's behind the back shot, followed by the lunging cross court backhand winner the other night at the 2022 US Open comes close.
Everyone says Djokovic didn't hit his prime yet, but he already won a slam lol. He reaches SF consistently until he faces Federer or Nadal. He's at his prime folks but not yet in his peak in 08-10. Give Fed his credits the same way you give Djoko the dues when he beat a 33-38 year old man lol....
@@NamTran-xc2ip not saying Fed's better, but Djokovic already hit his prime in much earlier stage of his career. Nadal beating the sh*t out of Djokovic in 2007-10 at the almost the same age means Nadal was better? You will said No ofcourse lol...
that between the leg is the greatest shot in tennis because against whom it was hit a class opponent and at what stage it was hit in a slam semi final to give him match points cant get any bigger and better than this long live RF...
Best match from Federer of all time. Djokovic didnt play that bad to begin with, it was just that Federer was unreal in this match, total demolition with a huge amount of wonderful winners and agressive approaches and passing shots. Then sadly he didnt perform well against Delpo who truly deserved to win the match, but this match was the best gift he could have ever gave us to us.
Life Of Tennis Don’t agree I think Federer has been playing at a high enough level he just has not been clutch enough on key points. He had 2 match points at Wimbledon 2019 ffs!
This was the last year of the peak Federer where he was consistent...the losses started the following year with Berdych at Wimbledon and things just were not the same...he seemed to lose something...that killer instinct...not sure whether the birth of his kids had anything to do with it...but he was just not quite the same from hereon out.
this federer is far better than the one in 2014 us open. here he still sort of hits his shots flat. curious to see how far federer will reach in this years open( wtitten before monfils match)
I never get tired of watching Roger play, and the matches between these two are always competitive and engrossing. I wish Federer won the final though.. that would have been 4 grand slams in a row./ 7:08
Once Upon a Time when the GOAT was simply unplayable… 🙌🏻 Sadly, injuries & Age caught him more than anything else.. He just thrashed every player till 2011…!!!
You know the tennis is good when the commentators can only say "Oh, look!" or "Oh, yes!" or "ohhh..." or "Oh My Goodness..." LOL. Great match. To bad Fed couldn't pull it off against del Po though.
not sure novak played very well though this was when he was messing around with his serve, always wondered why they didn't just leave his serve, he had a great serve in 08
chris boothby I don't think he felt comfortable with his old service motion after he switched rackets from Wilson to Head at the beginning of 2009. It took over a year for him to settle into his current service motion along with polishing his ground strokes to championship form.
Both players are definitely different players right now, in the opposite way. Federer moves and hits te ball a lot better and deeper here. Nole does these exact things better right now.
Very tight match. Djokovic was still letting Federer's shot making get to him, he let it affect him more instead of brushing it off. Federer had him outfoxed and seemed to always win those types of critical points until Novak finally figured out the mental aspect when playing him and Nadal. This type of match in say 2013 probably goes 4-5 sets that either could win instead of 3. Novak didn't learn to be at his best at the crucial moments, but 2010 and 2011 at the US Open against Federer probably helped him get that mentality needed.
Back when courts were fast and Federer played with confidence against Novak. In 2010s he consistently chocked against Djokovic and loses tie breaks, break points etc in grandslams.
Buongiorno
I mean whom you have seen play so fluidly with a sting like that on a hard court?? Fed is definitely the best among the 3 in their respective prime, the one who has a true for the tennis will definitly agree with me on this. His Forehand was razor sharp, never seen anything like this
