I'm a Fedor fan but it's a little early to call him the best ever.

The commentator Scott Frost won this tournament in 2010, John Schmidt won it in 2009, and Fedor Gorst won the event in 2022. This is a great match.

Watching this video, and I've realized that on the screen are three Derby City Classic one-pocket champs and a Southern Classic one-pocket champ. And then there's another Derby City Classic one-pocket champ doing commentary. Pretty cool.

Fedor is the most overrated player ever. He's good, but goddamn the boy isn't Efren Reyes or Earl or Shane. Jesus Christ. Stop it.

I had a lesson from John Schmidt about 10 years ago. The takeaway was to get lower and stroke longer. Transformed my game for the better to this day!

I am amazed that this channel only has 26k subs. Need some promotion or something. The wealth of knowledge on this channel is unmatched in the pool world.

Obviously, Scott's analysis is always going to be excellent ... but he's also extremely humble & modest (which might not be the first thing you'd predict). Scott's complimentary to both players, and dogged neither for good rolls, or picking shots he disagreed with, etc. And I'm not just saying that bc he's friends with RailBirdTV or anything. But because Scott's commentary and attitude were undeniably excellent. If he's being judged for TV rolls, his grammar and articulation were also very good. And despite having a history with at least John ... he was absolutely UNBIASED. A+ ... every bit as good as JJ or Josh Roberts even ... all of whom do great analysis but I have to admit, Scott has improved his commentary a bit above Roberts and is on par w JJ

What Scott said about John + Scott's proposition match _in their prime_ (1x set of 9B and 1P each) _going the opposite of how you'd expect_ ... just goes to show the effect of NERVES and ANXIETY on performance. Obviously both deal with pressure well enough to win ANY title. But "the favorite" just has more pressure, and the "underdog" feels a little less bc those expectations aren't on them. We just never address this aspect of the mental game. And if YOU think you're exempt from this factor..? As in, your practice gear is the same as your tournament or money game speed..? And that speed doesn't then take a hit when you're in the finals or worse; hill-hill..? Obviously everyone takes a performance hit to pressure ... the question is whether you pay a larger price for it than the average person, or more. Once we acknowledge that we ALL pay a price ... the question then becomes ... WHAT CAN WE DO TO REDUCE THE COST OF PRESSURE ON PERFORMANCE..? Personally, I think Max Eberle might pay the largest "Pressure Penalty" over any player I know. And if you've seen Max's $50 a set gear ... or his speed when playing weaker players (which can be right there with Mika of old's 9B or 10B gear -- someone who's ran an 8 on me without even noticing ... which Max I think is right there). Whereas when Max plays "name brand" players ... suddenly he's all mechanical, he's worried, he's trying to be perfect. And he loses all fluidity. Instead of being an incredibly smooth player with pinpoint precision who can DOMINATE the pockets ... he's at risk of missing moderate-difficulty shots. And of COURSE I feel bad naming anyone here. I don't just 'know Max' ... but I'd say we're really good friends. I hate saying anything critical of him. But the fact is, his talent is FAR higher than his record in tournaments would suggest ... and those he's won is with far more stress ... way less 'pretty' than his talent should allow. It's ego, self-image, anxiety, our respect for other players ... and there are few if any resources oriented to helping us. The inner game of tennis telling how to address it but never explaining WHY. And Max CERTAINLY isn't the only person who pays an outsized price for pressure ... it's just that the others whom I'd like to name have egos that'd likely cost me friendships. Max having fittingly named a book Zen Pool ... I have more confidence in his self-awareness to be both cognitive of this, and to not be upset at someone's belief that should he ever see this, he wouldn't hold it against me. Unfortunately, it wasn't until my eyesight worsened that I spent time thinking about this and realized it. Maybe I'll get eye surgery and can play again one day ... and experiment with ideas that let me see if I can benefit from being conscious of this tendency. My goal of course in posting this is my hope that others too notice the consequence of pressure on their performance ... and find ways to make their practice gear approach their competition-gear.

I remember Scott Frost And Gabe Owen and Cory They would come through St.Louis a couple times a yr when they were kids I played Scott a few time Way before he became the player he is today Man the 80s and 90s were fun in the pool room

What a match. Both players had some big mistakes, but they both played some great shots, too. This is the first set in which I've seen both players at this level miss so many shots that even I would have been an 80% fave to make. This set is a great one to see what can happen due to pressure or fatigue or impatience or lack of maintaining proper form or just taking your eye off the score.

Is there a reason fedor didn't double bank the one ball instead of missing the cut in the last game? Freezer?

I remember when I was younger I played John he came in Grover’s I watched him run 250 balls in straight pool. I then stepped up and played him one pocket for 5000. I lost! 😂🎉😮

thanks for the awesome video, I have never seen this sport before. On behalf of the dummies out here, I wonder if you could say the ball color with the number as the color changes with every cue sport I feel and it's hard to know which is the 13 or the 14 in this sport... your commentary is VERY instructive and that would just help the beginners like me see what you mean when you say he's trying to put it between the 12 and the 14...

It's interesting. I asked John Schmidt about his matches with Scott frost for thousands of dollars. John told me that they have never played one pocket or 9 ball for thousands of dollars and in their 1 pocket matches. John is ahead 21 games to 20 in tourney play. at 9 ball they only played for one time in 1998 for $50 a game and JohnGot 10 games ahead. John said that Scott might be confusing him with another player.

I know John personally, and he told me that him and Scott has never played for anything over Like 50 dollars. so Scott saying that hes beat John out of thousands, playing 9 ball is strange. and John said he has no idea why Scott would say that as they have never played for any kind of real money. And john said he never beat scott for big money.

I can't watch this one-pocket game. I don't know the rules or the thinking behind the shots. This voice in the background is not explaining any of the game to a beginner, either. Give me 8 ball or 9 ball anytime.

I started watching these one pocket matches on you tube a couple weeks ago Broke my cue out of retirement after 20 yrs and found a couple 9 ft tables in a bowling alley and started hitting balls again Gonna have to find some action soon.
