Defending champion Fedor Gorst takes on USA's Skyler Woodward in the last 64 of the 2021 World Pool Championship in Milton Keyenes. #9Ball #Pool #CueSports #WorldPoolChampionship #Nineball
They’re talking about skylar’s pace of play. This is a snail’s pace from when he was a kid. I remember playing him when he was 12-13 years old. The kid just flew around the table. Barely taking time to chalk his cue. We knew he was gonna be a good player, but no one knew just how good. He’s gifted.
This arena doesn’t get enough love. The panoramic shot of all the tables is just cool as hell, kudos to the engineers and table movers who made it possible
Gorst is not only a phenomenal player; whether he wins or loses, he is as much a gentleman as any player I have ever witnessed. Skylar played great those last seven racks, but he got several rolls that kept Gorst from being able to do anything. Gorst knew that he was the victim of Skylar's great playing and extremely fortunate rolls, but Gorst also knew that he has been on the other side of that many times in tournaments. That is the nature of pool, though...when you have two players of similar ability, luck is a huge factor in who wins. The sooner a competitor in pool accepts that at any time, the rolls can't go against them, indeed with great prejudice, the sooner that player can learn to be at peace with the game, other players, and themself. That peace of mind will help them elevate their game mentally to a higher level. The biggest difference between good players and great players is not their physical talent or how well they can move the ball around the table. It is their ability to manage their emotions when they experience great fortune or defeat and maintain enough composure to extract all the information available when everything seems to be working against them. Pool rooms are full of players who can pocket well and move the rock around the table with tremendous control. There is only a small percentage of those players who know how to discipline their minds to reach the potential they have physically. The amount of frustration one has playing pool is directly proportional to the gap between their physical talent and the level of their mental discipline. It is those players who will continually make excuses for their inconsistent play. When they make those excuses, they insulate themselves from the valuable information available to them in their mistakes...and victories. It comes down to this life principle, those who blame their defeats on their victimhood will miss 90+% of the lessons available to them...while calling others lucky! It is the great players who remember when they were in a similar frame of mind, yet finally understood these epiphanies, that look at those players and think to themselves, I wonder if they'll ever get it or if they'll just continue in their victimhood and remain way under their potential for the rest of their lives. By the way, Skylar has an excellent attitude and understands much of what this post was about...even at his young age.
When Gorst said he felt he had an advantage over Skyler cause he’s been on a main table before, I just wanted to laugh. Like does he not realize who Skyler is.
Came specifically to tell Matchroom how incredibly annoying having RU-vid ads come up every 2-3 minutes in their videos. Content providers can choose how many ads and where show up in their videos, and I guess Matchroom thinks that many ads is appropriate.
Now the 5 balls are PURPLE!? In the great debate, there's one thing that snooker will always have over rotation games, consistency of color scheme. Thanks for posting the match BTW.
@@neuvocastezero1838 I've first seen this set of balls brought on in the mosconi in 2018 or 2019. I agree it can get confusing for people who don't watch professional pool as much. The USA team had to keep reminding themselves by saying "purple 5" in practice. It all depends on the set of balls they use unfortunately
Man, these two were playing some first class strategy throughout, fun to watch the extended safety work. The puzzle solution parts are always the best for me. Next are some of the insane shots players at this level produce, which was the lesser aspect this match, MHO. Honestly I get kind of tired of rotation, until the match is more like this one, or when it's a long spread and the player down makes a big run to tie, exceed, or at least come close to the higher score, especially when they're far enough away from the hill to make it interesting, or vying for hill hill. Some excellent matches in this tourney. Interesting, the level of intense concentration going on in this tournament. These guys and gals are seriously serious here. Kind of the opposite of Mosconi, where they are still concentrating, but the crowds tend to be a little out of control, and the atmosphere can get a bit silly, and at times, irritating, like intentionally yelping or whatever when players are down on the shot. They were really getting nice consistent break spreads here as well. If only I could break like that, and safety, and shoot, and pattern ... :-/
Does Fedor has a background in snooker or billiards? He seems to have a very textbook stance and cue action, reminding me of Neil Robertson's cue action.
Hello everyone, Does anyone know what the "check side" means which Alex Lely says from time to time? I think he uses it for inside english when pocketing a ball but I wonder where the term originates.
"Check side" means the cue ball slows down off the rail because the english is reverse (as opposed to "running" english). You can have running inside and check outside, so "check" and "inside" aren't always synonymous, but they usually are, and they were in the case you're referring to.
@@Pyr0blast no prob... also, I'm going to retract my statement that they're usually synonymous. Follow shots with inside to go off two rails are "running inside", and they're extremely common.
Skyler played great safety’s and broke great the entire match, will have to clean up his run out play to have a good chance to win the word championships.
@@khoo6622 I checked to be sure because this isn't clear at all if you're not aware about that 😄 Matches are "live" then you can see it as replay, so I thought too that it was the current 2002 championship, which is not before april actually indeed.
It's not because of the Russia vs Ukraine! Russia's flag and anthem are already banned from major events such as the Olympics, Paraolympics and any World Championship organised by a World Anti-Doping Code signatory as part of sanctions imposed over the cover-up of a state-sponsored doping programe! For that Russia received a two-year ban from WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) in 2019. Those athletes are competing under the name of the “Russian Olympic Committee,” or ROC! When an ROC athlete wins a gold medal, the Russian anthem will not be played. Edit: Of course, because of the recent war now, any Russian/Belarusian player is automatically banned from any World/European Championship.
Who is the Third person in the commentator booth? 1) person with Dutch accent (Alex Lely) 2) person with British accent 3) person with German!? Accent… who is this/name?
@@konstantinheller4661 They determine who gets to break by what is called a "lag." You hit a ball down the table and then try to get as close to the near rail as possible. Whoever does that gets to break first. As for your second question, players get one 30-second extension per rack in this particular tournament.
Of this 2 hr video I bet more than half was just slow motions with that logo flipping all over the place. Excellent players. Great commentary...for once. But the production is simply horrible.
I'd say Fedor is the favorite but not so much that I'd be surprised if Skyler won. Not that big of a gap but.. maybe 55/45. Something like that. 52/48 maybe.
yes, fedor gorst is responsble for the political situation right now.... I would say to also ban Filler. Souqet, Hohmann etc because they are german. My grandma still remembers the germans.
It's bidens fault. This never would have happened with trump. And for proof this Didn't happen for 4 years under trump. And Biden is using this as an excuse to jack up gas prices since he shut down domestic oil production
