Hey Y'all! I hope you're doing great!
I am excited to share this EXTREME grocery budget video with you!
I sourced all the ingredients for a week's worth of meals for a family from Aldi for less than $50!
I apologize that the quality of this video is a bit spotty in places. I am working on a few upgrades to hopefully help in those areas. Thanks for your patience as I learn and grow the channel and equipment.
Here are a few links for some food banks if you need them--
www.feedingame...
www.shfb.org/
also, you can search "local food bank" on google.com and it will bring you local specific resources!

Here are the recipes I used in today's video:
Soft Oat Loaf Bread
2 1/2 C water
1/4 C brown sugar
1/4 C butter
1 C oats
1 TBS salt
1 TBS yeast
5 C flour
Incorporate all ingredients and knead for 10 minutes.
Allow to rise 2 hours.
Divide into two loaves and place in loaf pans to rise for 2 additional hours.
Bake at 350 F for 35 minutes, or until golden brown.
Breakfast Casserole
6 eggs
1 C milk
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 C cheese, shredded
1 C ham, diced
Whisk eggs, milk, salt and pepper together.
Place cheese and ham in bottom of casserole dish. Pour eggs over ham.
Bake at 400 F for 30 minutes, or until eggs are set.
Serve with apple slices.
Vegetable Soup
2 lg. cans crushed tomatoes
2 bags frozen mixed vegetables
2 C water
2 TBS italian seasoning
2 tsp salt
2 tsp pepper
Pour all ingredients into stock pot and simmer for 4 hours.
Serve with saltine crackers.
Saltine Crackers
2 C flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 C water
1/3 C butter
Mix dry ingredients together.
Add water and butter and knead slightly until it forms a ball.
Divide mix into two balls.
Roll each section to 1/8 in thickness.
Cut into squares. Sprinkle with salt.
Bake in 350 F oven for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.
Broccoli Rice & Ham Casserole
1/3 C flour
1 C broth
2 C cheese, divided
1 bag frozen broccoli
2 C diced ham
3 C cooked rice
1 C milk
2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
Create a cream with the flour and broth by mixing them together and heat to thicken.
Add all ingredients to bowl and mix well, saving 1 C cheese.
Add mixed ingredients to 13x9 casserole dish and top with remaining cheese.
Bake in 350 F oven for 25 minutes.
Broil 5 minutes longer to brown cheese.
Chef Salad
2 heads romaine lettuce, chopped
3 roma tomatoes, diced
1 bag spinach
1 C shredded cheese
8 oz french dressing
toast (optional)
Mix all ingredients together and brown toast under broiler, if desired.
Broccoli Cheddar Soup
1 C flour
2 C milk
1/2 stick butter
8 C bone broth
2 pkgs frozen broccoli
1 tsp salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp pepper
8 oz cheese, shredded
Make slurry by stirring flour and milk together and heating in dutch oven with 1/2 stick butter and heat until thickened.
Once thickened, add broth and broccoli. Simmer broccoli for 10 minutes.
Add seasonings and cheese and cook for 30 minutes longer, until well thickened.
Egg In A Hole
6 slices bread
6 eggs
1/2 stick butter, softened
Butter each piece of bread on both sides and stack on top of one another.
Once all pieces are buttered, cut a square in the middle of the slices.
In a heated skillet, lay bread, with holes removed, in skillet and crack one egg in each hole. Cook until set and flip to other side. Season as desired. Cook holes as well (these are the best part!)
Serve with apple slices.
Corn Chip Salad
1 head romaine lettuce, chopped
1 tomato, diced
1 C cheese, shredded
2 C black beans, drained
1 bag corn chips
8 oz french dressing
Mix all ingredients together and serve immediately.

Thank you for encouraging use of and donating to food pantries. I work at one and i want your viewers to know most can buy way more food if you donate cash than if you buy items yourself..in case noone is aware of that. $5 or $10 donation can buy a large amount if food thru the food bank purchasing power.

FYI.the shank portion of the ham contains mostly bone. The butt portion is the best for the price. You will pay more per pound but you will have 2 1/2 to 3 times more meat from your ham. You can get more meals, and sandwiches for lunch. Believe me you will definitely benefit from paying more in this situation.

If you usually buy instant oatmeal, did you know that you can make your own instant oatmeal, to make your own instant oatmeal all they do to make instant oatmeal is blend it up into finer pieces and you can do the same thing in you own blender at home, and to make oatmeal flour all you need to do is blend it to the desired fineness you desire

I like your idea of stressing whole foods as opposed to a lot of processed ingredients. You also proved we can take basic ideas and switch them up when we find a great deal on an item we had not planned for. Switching the ham for the chicken definitely was a smart move. I never was a soda drinker on a regular basis and have finally weaned myself off potato chips the last was Doritos. I had to ask myself what nutritional value was a bag offering ? At $5-$6, a large bag of Doritos is the same price as say a package of Hamburger which could make 6-10 meals depending on how I used it, and also the price of meat in my area. Your little shopping buddy is a cutie.
@homemadesimplewithlori

Thank you for sharing this. You are doing Gods work helping those who may not be great home cooks. You prove that with a bit of planning and on the fly adaptation you can feed a whole family for under $50. Good tip on the yeast. I find bakers yeast the best. Those big blocks rather than the dried packet stuff. Another good tip for ppl with a garden is to plant your own Apple, Plum or Pear trees. Every year apart from the plums (bi yearly) we get free apples and pears and over harvest can be shared with neighbors or turned into yummy jam. I also have a Bay leaf tree and everyday herbs like parsely, mint, basil can be grown from seed in planters or from cuttings from existing plant and all it needs is some sunlight warmth and water its basically free. The herbs freshen up homecooked meals like crazy and add taste to otherwise bland tasting food.

I buy those too! Kroger has them. It’s a ten pound bag of leg quarters. And it’s like 67 cents a pound and there ya go. Broth, dumplings, fried chicken(dark meats always best) and btw y’all Paula deans fried chicken recipe is amazing. You need hot sauce, just like Texas Pete’s not Tabasco, salt pepper and garlic powder which she calls her house seasoning, eggs water flour and it’s so good. You just mix the hot sauce eggs and water whisk your eggs of course and then put the dry ingredients together. Flour your chicken, then dip in eggs and hot sauce then the flour again. That’s what I do. And make sure your grease is hot when you put your Chicken in. And btw y’all my mamaw taught me to save my chicken grease you just strain it into a container when it cools enough to. Or if you forget to when it’s still warm just warm it back up enough to get it out of your skillet:-) she’d use a spaghetti sauce jar.

I have to tell you during Easter in 2022 Aldi put all there hams on sale after Easter i picked out 5 of the bigger hams and loaded them into the freezer we ate them throughout the year and i have quite a few bags of ham in the freezer along with a bunch of hambones we just ate the last ham this Easter it came out great so i needed to make some room in my freezer so i took 3 hambones out of the freezer and made 12 quarts of ham broth from those 3 bones i put them in crock pots for 12 hours the broth was so golden and rich looking. I am eating all whole xlean foods nothing processed i have a soy allergy and a gluten allergy as well. Wow! I live in Washington state and im watching the prices scroll down the screen in awe! These prices are waaaaay cheaper than in Washington! This state is so expensive and the residents are all @holes. Seriously I'm paying $4.00 for a pound of store brand butter! We get dried garbanzo beans and cook a cup or two at a time in the instant pot. Add them to soups, meat loaf, salads, make hummus, rice dishes etc. Garbanzo beans (chick peas) are a great source of plant protien, fiber, potassium, magnesium and iron. I frequently add them to meals to help with those with texture issues 😉

I keep a couple pigs of instant potatoes in different flavors and use them as thick eners instead of flour, works really well and adds flavor. cornstarch is also another thing I use to thicken things. I just don't care for using that much flour to thicken.

Lovely meals. We had a ham and used some for fried rice, we loved it with egg drop soup for a meal we call Chinese Fake Out, instead of take out. Simple and filling. I cannot find the yeast at Sam's or Costco but I do have some in freezer. Bought it a while back and it is still good. I like the look of that bread you made too. I am trying to make the sourdough you shared and it is not ready yet. I do love to make French bread and big rolls that taste like Kings sweet Hawaiian bread, especially big enough to make bun sized for pulled bbq meat sandwiches. Soups looked delicious too. I make a vegetable soup or lentil soup to carry for my lunches for the week. Very filling and frugal. Have a great weekend!

true preping yourself saves lots money but it also depends on what your prepping and it gots to be delicious to your family and you, it cant be food thats just cheap and gets you buy you got love it. im on a same journey trying spend no less than 25 to 50$ a week and feed a family of 4 making sure they get their fullness and nutrients needed. eggs are the first thing that became a staple, you can get box 60 eggs for 7.50 and can def feed family for week on breakfest for 2 eggs per person of family of 4 for 7 days, that covers breakfast, now lunch i say we work with chicken which is cheap and uo can get 5lb bag for 5$.... help me out ppl what else can i get cheaper on and make family full of delicous food? no point in making food if fam wont eat it..
