Thanks.. mine is also a messy eater.. food is all over her face and under the neck.. i tried to wipe it with wet tissue or cotton but she hates it.. i already thought of using spray but i dont know if its advisable to bathe my 1month old cockatiel
pepe is very cute.i just got a apir of cockatiels one is grey speckled the other lotino.they are a cute pair.love them both.they hand tamed.the issue is the yellow cockatiel does not know to eat by herself.i'm advised by the seller to hand feed baby food daily twice.but i dont know how much.and is twice enough?and how do i know he/he is full?please help.. thank you
Since your cockatiel is 2 months old, you should consider feeding it birdseed or leaves instead. It might also enjoy a small and tasty banana snack , not too much just a little piece maybe every 2 days. Also when you are cleaning your bird try not to hold the spray too close to your little feathery friend 💜

@@saratasnim6238 :( Cow passed away on Thanksgiving day. My advice, let someone who knows what they are doing hand feed. Get them once weaned. It`s heartbreaking. It`s not worth the risk. Our next birdie we got very young as well but weaned. She is very bonded to us and a happy healthy spoiled birdie. We love her and miss and regret Cow very much.
Mine is 1 month old, and when i try to feed it it doesnt even open it mouth, it goes away. I open it mouth with a small spoon and i dont know if its ok to do that or not but i cant make him more hungry i feel bad
it could perfectly be a one month old. You see, it really depends on how the cockatiel is fed. I got a two week old cockatiel that looked like a one week old. By the time my cockatiel was a month, their wings had no pin feathers at all. They are now two months and a week or so old, and they are almost fully feathered, however, they are still very tiny. I don't know if they are going to grow more than this at this point, but I do know the breeder was doing a pretty bad job at feeding my son
My bird doesn’t do that, he turns his head the other way when I try and give him the formula, can someone help? He looks exactly like the birds in the video. Little update- after watching many videos I came to the conclusion that my formula wasn’t warm enough, so I began to heat the water up more and testing it on my wrist (if it burn you it will burn the cockatiel) and he started to eat up. I am now 2 months into hand feeding and I feel like I’m a pro. I heat up a kettle full of water, and mix the formula with the heated water. Once I make sure it’s warm and won’t burn him I feed him, if the cockatiel stops eating, I plop the syringe in a glass full of the heated water so it can warm up, then try again.
Your pepe reminds me of my little ones, I'm wondering at what age did you start bathing him/her and how do you keep him/her warm afterwards? Mine are 3-4 weeks closer to the 4. They currently have gnarly chunks of dried formula building up on their neck feathers.
This also happened to my baby. I'd use a wet, warm paper towel for now, at least until they turn 5 weeks, you can try bathing them after that, however, if they don't react well to water, I'd continue to use the wet paper towels until they turn 8 weeks, hope that helps :)

2 months old.. you would need seed diet, fruits and vegetables. some fruits are not good for birds.. research before giving it to your bird. 2 months old bird doesn't need that diet as in the video.

I don't know about the food in the video, but I use Kaytee's Exact hand feeding formula. It is highly recommended by veterinarians, and it can be easily found in any pet store. Now, 2 months old should not be fully weaned yet, however, a soon as they turn 6 weeks old you can START with the weaning process, offering them soft foods, preferably at room temperature, and moist pellets. Now, if they are crying a lot for food it might have something to do either with the amount of food you are giving them, or the consistency of the formula. When they turn five weeks old, the consistency should not be so watery anymore, and have more of an applesauce consistency. This should go on til they turn seven weeks, then you start thickening the formula to the point it's more like a dough and not a liquid. You should increase the amount you give the baby regularly, half a cc at the time. I hope that helps
It is handfeeding formula for birds. You can find it in most regular pet stores. I use Kaytee's Exact Formula. It is very recommended, however, I wouldn't use a syringe if you don't know how to properly use it. You can use a plastic spoon instead. Just submerge it in boiling water and shape it with your fingers so the tip will be curved and it forms a cone-like shape. This way the baby can decide how much to take at the time
You can start bathing them when as young as five weeks old, however, mine ended up traumatized from that experience, so I'd check how they react to a little bit of water. If they freak out I'd wait till they are 8 weeks old. I know they can get stinky, and the formula can really get stuck all over their face, however, you don't want them to be problematic at bath time in the future, so, for now, I'd just use a warm, moist paper towel, regardless of how the baby reacts. Especially if they haven't turned 5 weeks yet. In any case, it is not recommended to bath them if they still have too many pin feathers, or bald spots
Shouldnt you have put them on a flat surface, and held your hand around their neck a bit? It's a natural instinct for them to bounce their head like that when other birds lock their beak in theirs to feed - but with a syringe it just makes a mess :)
well, you would typically do that in younger birds, or when they are way too eager to eat (to the point they open their wings and run at you like they're about to tackle you LMAO), however, I don't see a problem on not holding them if they don't move around too much. Sure, it makes a mess, but some cockatiels prefer it, and at the end it is all about building trust with them. You don't want to force them to do anything they don't want to do unless it is absolutely necessary

Im getting a baby cockatiel maybe 2 weeks old and i need advice for hanfeeding him, someone i know had a baby cockatiel and after 1 week she stopped eating then she died and we don't know the reason and i don't want mine to not eat or get sick so what do yoi think i should do?
@@vara.x Well, first of all, I'd recommend not getting one as young as that. I got mine at that age, and let me tell you, it was a nightmare. I became exhausted to the schedule in no time, and as soon as I saw mild signs that mine could be ill I became straight up depressed and took him to the vet right away, just to find out there was nothing wrong with them. So in the first place, don't get one that's too young. I'd say that if you really want to get a young one, it is at least 4 weeks old, and doesn't only have pin feathers. Now, whether you get a 2 week old or a 4 week old, if they stop eating that will clearly be a sign of sickness. Poop might get funky looking, and even have a funny smell. This happened to my tiel and it made me worry, as most forums say that this should not be the case in a healthy cockatiel. However, mine turned out to be perfectly healthy and still had really funky poop. The main thing to keep in mind is to remember his behaviors and possible symptoms so you can recognize a disease if there's a match. The most basic thing to care about is temperature, if the temperature is right, probably everything will be alright. A baby anywhere from 1 week to 5 weeks needs to be at a temperature of 80 F as a bare minimum, 90 being the maximum. The humidity is not all that important since Australia's humidity can change drastically, and cockatiels are genetically designed to adapt to that, so get a thermometer and a brooder. As long as the temperature is right, sickness should be easily avoidable. You need to make sure you keep the cockatiel's brooder clean so they don't catch anything from decomposing poop, and also regularly check the baby's crop to make sure they don't get a sour crop. You can make your own brooder at home, since they are really expensive to buy. I'll leave you a link to a tutorial on how to DIY a brooder, and all the details to keep in mind. I personally got my tiel a critter keeper and it worked like a treat, however, as the baby gets older it will need a bigger space, so I'll leave you another link to a video on how to make an even more DIYed brooder. The temperature of the food should be between 102 F and 106 F. The safest way to check on the temperature is using a food thermometer, however, if you don't have one, you can just check the temperature on your wrist, where you can see your veins. If it doesn't burn, it's the right moment to feed it to your baby, however, it can't be too cold either. This last one is obviously less accurate, but it works perfectly fine and it is still pretty safe. If the food's too cold the baby will get a sour crop (meaning the food will stay in the crop for way too long and it will start decomposing inside the baby, leading to an infection). You can recognize sour crop by feeling your baby's crop and looking for dense, kinda hard, remains of baby formula inside the crop. If the formula is too thick, the baby won't be able to digest it fast enough, and again, this will cause sour crop, so pay attention to thickness and temperature, I will leave some links so you can go check on that info more thoroughly, and if the food is too hot, the baby will get a burnt crop (the food's so hot that it burns that baby's skin from the inside, leading the baby to feel excruciating pain. This one, however, is not so easy that your cockatiel gets it, and I know all I'm saying sounds pretty intense, but don't freak out. Trust me. At the end this is all less technical and more intuitive once you learn to understand your baby). Now, for a while, my baby refused to eat, this ended up being caused by formula that cooled off too soon inside the syringe, and also, because the way I was holding him made him uncomfortable. I had changed the way I held them without noticing, and apparently, that bothered the mister very much LOL. So I had to put the formula in the syringe while it was still a little too hot so when it cooled off inside the syringe, the temperature would be alright. I would check the temperature of the formula every time, and definitely tried different ways to hold my Sire, so he would not be bothered by my brute ways LOL. I am very sorry. Sometimes it's really hard to tell if you're going too fast for them, or if you're pushing too hard on the syringe. Sadly, it is a harsh learning process
I have 4 cocateil chick I separated them from their parents for hand feeding but it has become very difficult to hand feed them as I have to hold them and feed them forcefully ... 😏
Malik Jawad Hassan if your chicks aren’t eating try giving them a different baby bird formula, such as egg and biscuit mix, arrow root mixed with warm water etc. my baby bird hates weetbix but urs May love it.
At this point judgement will solve nothing. Depending on their age you can try giving them weaning foods like leafy greens or soft veggies. If they're too young then maybe they find the food too cool, or the way you hold them bothers them. For like 4 days my maybe would not want to eat all their food, to the point they just didn't eat at all. Luckily they were willing to try the weaning foods, and I realized soon enough that I was doing both of the mistakes above. Maybe you changed they way you usually fed them without even realizing.
