Vegetables should be a large portion of a turtle's diet. However, it can be difficult to integrate them into their diet if your turtle won't eat vegetables. In today's video, I share a few ways to get your turtle to start eating vegetables.
The best way to get your turtle to eat vegetables are:
1) Don't feed them for 2-3 days so they get hungry and become a less picky eater
2) Soak the vegetables in tuna water to make them smell attractive to your turtle
3) Try to feed your turtle a wide range of vegetables. You want to give your turtle vegetables with a range of different colors and textures. In this video, I feed my turtle carrots, zucchini, sweet peppers, and spring mix.
4) Feed your turtle fortified pellets to get them used to vegetables.
5) Feed your turtle fruit that is similar to vegetables. For example, I feed my turtle tomatoes a lot.
All in all, vegetables are crucial for your turtle's diet, as they provide a long list of essential vitamins and nutrients including vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, and calcium. Therefore, it is important that you find a way to get your turtle to start eating vegetables.
How much vegetables should be in your turtles diet?
The amount of vegetables in your turtle's diet will depend on their age. For turtles 0-4 years old, vegetables should consist of up to 25% of their diet. For turtles between the age of 4-8, vegetables should make up around 50% of their diet. For turtles over the age of 8, vegetables should make up around 75-80% of their diet.
