I started feeding 2 cockatoos, then they brought their kids over, then their other relatives, next thing I know, there are 12 birds coming 3 times a day wanting to be fed. I had to stop feeding them out of concern for the noise they make disturbing the neighbours. I am back down to the original pair of cockatoos who come twice a day. I hide from the rest :)
yup - not feeding them anymore. They haven't been into my place again for almost a year now. They wrecked my 3 day old Christmas lights! It all started when a cockatoo saw me feeding one of the magpie. The magpie was fine as it's always just one bird. Unlike the Cockatoo that normally flies as a group.
@@brad727 Actually, since I stopped feeding them, only a few have come, usually 1 or 2 at a time. I have fed them on occasion but when they think I am not home, they don't stay long. Fortunately they have not been destructive.
@@foiblegilneas1777 I'd love to see an experiment if a household fed a flock, and then suddenly stopped, but the household was nowhere to be seen, would they still put on the black-mailing behavior or would they understand that no-one was around to feed them. Would be interesting.
@@ayushikarn1893 Well, if first you don't succeed, try, try again. I would just say something simple when they come, like hi, or hello. Repete that over and over, everytime they come in a joyful voice. 😀
This is the best possible interaction with cockatoos. Trust me. I have a 27Yr old Umbrella. You can never really own a cockatoo so you might as well make friends with these guys. Take the opportunity to commune with this gregarious edge of nature and be thankful your hearing is in-tact along with all 10 fingers. Keeping these as pets is an exercise in patience. I just wish I went to the gym to exercise as much as my patience has. Nice Video.
We adopted a sulphar crested after she was left in a backyard cage for 35 years ..she is quiet, smart and loving. It’s luck of the draw or we actually know how to treat a bird that is in captivity. Some idiot kept her after being hit by a car and obviously after 35 years she can’t fly (has arthritis) Birds should not be kept as pets ,they should not be hatched and sold for pets. Injured birds should be taken to a wildlife shelter.
Oh, it's so sweet and kind that you give them food! :) But that one cockatoo is such a bully to the poor other one, I've never seen a cockatoo who is scared of another one, but this little guy was quite shy and a bit intimidated. I'm glad that both had a delicious meal though.
i love how so free and behave your cockatoos, i have a pet bird before, a peach face love bird who can survive without a partner and she was so loving and so attached to me but I lost her when i went away and leave her to a friend😪 .... i love the way you feed them, teach them patience and at the same time looks enjoyable too
It's cute that you think cockatoos are nice. In reality, they're destructive blighters who break stuff just for the fun of it. They do have a lot of character though.
@@ronaldpum - RU-vid land is crazy and full of crazy people too. Go the "crazy" way and you shall see. I am telling you what I've learned for the past 3+ years. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@ronaldpum - Let me give you some tips.... A bag of food is under $10.00. 100K views is about $700.00+ RU-vid Money. That is a pretty good investment don't you think? "I don't know what crazy is, but I see what crazy does!" -Jordan Bronson 😂😂😂😂😂😂
They’re like “oohhh, we definitely like this bloke” The wild ones are so much fluffier and they seem happier than the ones kept as pets. Plus, the ones as pets seem like they go a bit loopy after a while, probably not being able to spread their wings and fly naturally
They are so much nicer than pigeons! You guys might have gotten the snakes and man eating spiders, but at least you got a better selection of wild birds than we did on the other side of the equator.
I have pigeons, doves, crows, cardinals, blue jays and flocks of dirty sparrows, plus squirrels, possums raccoons, and the occasions skunk. I feel cheated.
Nice of you to feed them. Now there are so many people in what was their habitat, it must be harder for them to find food and water. I saw a video of 2 cockatoos trying to lift up a garbage can lid. Of course, they couldn't. I felt sorry for them.
I agree with you, where once there were trees and habitat for wildlife, there are now houses, we all need to give back to wildlife, nature and be kind to all! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💕💙💜
There's such beautiful birds you can train them to come and eat at your place everyday and guess what you're not in cages like people at the North United States and Canada I put them in cages they don't belong in a cage thank you for feeding them ♥️💯🥰🤗🦜👍
The Makers Muse channel has done an experiment testing the intelligence of some local cockatoos with some puzzles. It’s a surprising entertaining video.
I think wild parrots are not searching for natural food any more...they are just going around in the neighbourood visiting their hooman friends one after another having "just a little" everywhere :D
Thanks - I just recorded it so that my 1yr old can watch it on TV. Didn't expect it will gather a lot of views. Love German Cars!! ✌️ I'm uploading a better version this weekend.
In Au, can feed the parrot, anytime as wish. In UK cost 1k more to buy one is not the problem is that need to feed water and food everyday, no holiday.
Some are super aggressive. They will fight (and bite the hand that feed them). There is always a "pecking order"... and blood and feathers will fly if a bird tries to change the order.
@@MaxMastaSmash I know! My profile picture is of our rescue, the Amazon parrot Rocky, 21 years old. He has been with us now for nine years, he chopped up my arms real bad (have a lot of scars!) but now he's a love bug. I know what I'm doing, unfortunately, too many people buy parrots because they are "cute" 🙂 it's GREAT that you warn people, I do the same. I have the fortune to work from home, so I have the time for birds. Rocky was saved from a drug house, only God knows what he has been through, he was scared to death and it took me two years to be able just to touch him.
I'm getting you're feeding them bot you are giving them a tiny amount. I feed dozens of birds every day but tons more food than you this is in Iowa. Don't forget the water!! Wish I could move to Australia and have that bird mates; I would treat that very well. And yeah talk to them too. There is better food than sunflower seeds but glad you gave them something.
Thanks - I dont put a lot because most will just fell on the ground especially when their jumping or flapping their wings. What I would like to feed are the pink and black cockatoos - but they just dont want to go down the tree.
Sunflower seeds are really fat for birds!! They aren’t toxic, but they aren’t really recommended either, you should give them veggies and fruits (not avocado or tomato, they are toxic)
I think that only applies for domesticated birds. Wild birdies do a lot more flying and expend a lot more energy than domesticated birds and actually can use the fat and calories that domesticated birds don't really need.
What will happen if you grabbed one of them and take him in your house and make him your pet? Do you think the other one will fly away and go warn the others by saying “someone caught jerry today, don’t take food from strangers 🤔
Darmin Axel most likely, birds actually have a brain too, and if a bird sees another bird being taken, it will most likely tell the other birds that humans are dangerous
Be prepared to spend more money fixing you wooden an plastic fixings as a result of this action! The birds themselves are beautiful but their crys are painful when there's more of them. The lorient were my favourite when I lived in OZ
