Are you feeling overwhelmed in your satisfactory world? In this video I will be going over the strategies I use to plan out my satisfactory world and make things much less overwhelming. I will also be going over the pros and cons of both mega bases and modular factories in you world. If you have any more tips and suggestions about managing your satisfactory world please leave them down in the comments bellow. As always thank you so much for watching and I will se you all in the next video!

My biggest breakthrough of my satisfactory world and being overwhelmed in the game was defining a modular building that works with a train network. It then turned into designing just 1 building at a time with different inputs and outputs only. That building framework got me to a world with 120 active trains going around and holy crap it was fun figuring it out.

A mega factory with a central bus is for early and mid game, modular is for late game when you are using every resource in its entirety

If a person isn't feeling overwhelmed at points during a playthrough, are you even playing Satisfactory? After over 1500 hours I still have my moments.

Last time I played Satisfactory I had this issue where my first timer early setup was one that I had always just built on top of more and more without foundations, looking at what the new objectives need. It was just such a huge spaghetti mess sprawling on the sand that I couldn't even figure out how to start disassembling it. So I basically overwhelmed myself by not being systematic in building and later trying to figure out what the setup was even doing was like trying to decipher a doctor's handwriting.

After 500+ hours into satisfactory, one thing I don't wory about too much is efficiency. I generally crank everything up to 200% and work from there. Its irrelevent if a supplying product is over generated as it will stop when its full anyway. This way upgrading belts etc is the main concern. Once you have coal power , then power becomes virtually unimportant. I also DON"T build big flat foundations but try to build around the landscape on various levels. Try to mak it more natural and realistic than having floating factories. There's virtual no videos or info available on quantities of products to start building hence build the max you can from the start, and adjust as necessary. Maximise base products until reach tier 4 or higher then start organising.

The straw that broke my camel's back was the jump to trains. I had just re-built pretty much everything in a more modular and expansible manner. I was feeling the need for longer distance logistics. And then train stations were so much larger than anything else that I couldn't even figure out how to fit any near the existing plants, let alone organize a convenient mall. I managed to figure out how many stations I'd need for dedicated trains, build that station (about a quarter of desert surface), and then got stuck again on just how large even the tracks get. I built one copper, iron, steel, concrete source, intending to make those available through the rail. Never hooked it up. I just got so incredibly tired.

What I did was save on a regular basis, with names like 'first train start' or something. I could mess around, make mistakes but was always able to get back to that point if necessary... The tips on making a list, making just one thing and forget the rest are also good.. You could start a new world in a new area, but when the first steps are going good enough, jump back in the original save... Any tips or thoughts? Lemme know bro! ;-) p.s. someone just made a free demo of Chocolate Factory on Steam, 'same but different' perhaps a nice change...

Good tip! My main problem is the pointlessness of building. Yes, every simulation game is pointless since its just a program for your enjoyment, but copying and pasting blueprints or building with little variation (though to be fair it has been a while since I last played) just kills it for me. The movement and the visuals of the game are so great tho!

Being overwhelmed was never a problem for me. I always did one thing at a time even when it felt like I'd hat to do everything I concentrated on more or less one thing. I always took my time with factories and that's probably the reason why my first playthrough is now at around +450h and took me around 2 years 😂😂😂

It took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to figure out how to make reinforced iron plates when I first played this game. Basically, getting stumped or overwhelmed can happen to anyone at any time.

I'm about to chuck everything into the sink apart from a power plant and start over. Going to go super modular with trucks, I feel like modular will be so much easier to upgrade.

Pretty good tips. Personally I once made a flowchart basically of the whole save so I can keep track and damn, after around 100 hours it was quite an experience navigating that... 😂 Also great video, keep it up!

The middle game is probably my least favorite part. Like a bit after you get steel. Because at first you just make anything and it kind of doesn’t have to be that good. At the end you just have so many things so you can basically do whatever and make a functional and nice looking factory. But that middle part. That transitioning phase, where you start to see how bad your old stuff is and you only have some good looking stuff, but not all of the attachments to make it look just right. It’s mildly infuriating. I always make modular factories. It’s kind of fun to see your own progress in the design of your factories. My design kind of goes from, spaghetti, to closed building, to open concepts. My starting place is always a mess and I rarely move my hub from where I originally placed it. Then I make like one or two big, closed buildings with stuff in it and then I get kind of tired of changing it around to see what looks good and I just use the foundations and walls for practical purposes.

I felt overwhelmed when it came time to making modular frames, or any other complicated part. I find that it helps if you go out looking for alternate recipes first, before tackling a complex build. That way your inputs and outputs are better when you are finished. Also I find I feel less overwhelmed after I practice making a build for a complex part.

Good video, but how do you manage the "Good enough" of throughput? I struggle with knowing what is good enough in terms of production. Both towards the final parts and for construction materials until it just makes me completely stop playing.

Honestly, I don't feel overwhelmed as much as frustrated usually. There are several features that significantly annoy me when it comes to the factory designing of the game. For instance, having no way for miners to line up with the world grid paired with the fact that they are big and their collision extends further than it should. Another good example is having to have a conveyor belt between stuff even if they're right next to each other. Another annoyance is the blueprint designer, you have no way of scanning a current factory, you have to build it in the designer and the designer is very small so you usually have to make like 10 blueprints for a good factory. Then it's difficult to connect it all up due to small annoyances like not being able to switch the direction of a vertical conveyor belt when building it (I wanna be able to start from the top and build downward, but the stuff still goes up the conveyor). The list goes on, but you get the point. There are soooo many examples of this where the gameplay hasn't been polished enough or thought through on the basic level that it makes the game extremely unsatisfying and frustrating to play much of the time. Don't get me wrong, the game has loads of potential and I think it's a truly special game, but it needs a significant redesign from the ground up if you ask me.
@bennyjerman
@bennyjerman 3 дня назад
Idk about the blueprint but placing the vertical at the top then placing the bottom should change the direction
@midnatheblackrobe
@midnatheblackrobe 2 дня назад
@@bennyjerman I agree that should be the default but there should be a very simple way to swap it on a case by case basis. After playing the game more though, there is. You can switch the build mode to reverse using r. This still feels very janky though and is still very annoying because if I build it wrong I have to rebuild the whole thing from scratch despite being in the same exact spot just reversed direction.

Good stuff. I like to try to future proof as much as possible. This is also why I prefer the modular concept though the way I build might be better called decentralized mega base. I try to future proof things as I go. I know I will need more and more and more iron so I plan for the max miner and overclock possible for each node. I might not put down every smelter right away or ever, but I try to have enough room if I do want to put down every possible machine. Once raw material has gone through that first process I will look to importing things to that more centralized base and that one if more flexible and might get some redesign but keeping the raw and first process separate just works for me. That also works well for concrete. I will have concrete banks scattered around usually and being able to grab that quickly rather than going back to main factory is good for me. Another thing is power. I plan power for power's sake, not for production of other materials sake. I might have plastic being produced and from the same node generate some power. Or, I might produce power and also kick out some rubber. But I plan only for one at a time at each node. Byproducts are byproducts. Extras I gain from doing things righyt with my build. Like you said though, there is no perfect build. Only the build that works for you.
