Feeling Unstable? - Try a Timbren Suspension Enhancement System

We were looking for a way to enhance our truck's suspension as well as to provide additional support while hauling our truck camper. In addition to adding support, we were also looking for something to help reduce the sway that you sometimes get with a Truck Camper. After researching our options, we found the Timbren Suspension Enhancement System. In this video we show how we installed this system on our 2019 RAM 3500 SRW. It is not only for use with truck campers but it is also used for any type of heavy hauling or towing. We hope this helps someone out there.

Thank you for such an awesome video on these thingys!! We are about to get a used truck camper and I had heard of these but I hadn't researched them until now. Several people suggested them and we have never owned a truck camper so we are still learning. I want to avoid as many unpleasant experiences as possible as so not to get discouraged about this style of RVing. When I searched RU-vid about RVing in a truck camper, yours was one of the channels that popped up and I've been watching several of your videos.

Plus fresh water, hot water, propane, batteries (if the factory didn’t install them), fuel and oil in the truck, stuff and gear in the truck, stuff and gear in the camper and don’t forget the people. I think we better add 1,500 pounds minimum to the factory dry weight. I’ve been through this with a LB Ford 3/4 ton with air bags and big stabilizer bars. Lance says their 850 model is made for a 3/4 ton pick up. Wrong, our first trip we were 1,600 pounds over the GRVW top heavy and unsafe. Thanks for your GREAT videos.

A sway bar sounds like a good idea. Interesting I noticed the other day at the Ram dealer while I was checking out some duallys that the truck I saw with factory air bags did not have the overload springs above the spring pack. The trucks without the air bags had the factory overload springs. The overload springs really helped with sway on my old GMC truck. I wish my current Ram 3500 SRW had the factory overload springs. I just thought it was interesting that they come with either/or springs or air bags. Maybe you can order them with both. Maybe you have both on yours which would really be nice. I have a 2008 Dodge 3500. It now has 60,000 km on it. Truck has overloads and I added 2 additional leafs to bottom springs. Also put Torklift stableloads both upper and lower along with a Helwig sway bar. Makes huge difference. I have airbags as well but you have to be careful not to inflate too much. Crazy part of it is gvw rating on the door post is 10,100 pounds. Truck weighs close to 7500 pounds so by law I haven't got a lot of wriggle room with my northernlite sportsman on. I would definitely recommend putting some overloads with the torklift products on your truck. I have 0 sway and none of that floating feel.

@@RunawayRoses the RAS did ok at speed. (60-65) no sway when I may have had it before. It however didn’t do what I had wanted. And that was to take out the rebound bounce. Please spend the $10 and take it to a CAT scale and get actual front and rear axle weights (another chance for a good video!!! hint, hint), and compare them with the numbers on the door placard (the other placard, not the one you showed in the beginning). Also look at the tires and find the actual weight capacity on the sidewall (which is specified at 80 PSI) to make sure the tires match or exceed the max axle rating. The eye opener will be how much the front end weighs. You can easily fall within the total Gross Rear Axle Weight limit and still exceed the total Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

Frankly, putting that kind of top heavy weight (more than two tons!!!) on anything but a dual wheel truck is questionable... You are measuring & viewing the springs under a static load & not while the load is bouncing up and down, when everything is flexing... Adding thicker snubbers might soften the shock when the frame hits the axle, but does nothing to support the load.. I would have added another leaf to the springs to support the weight and not soften the travel to the axle.. In addition, the thought of a blowout or tire failure of some kind at highway speeds in unnerving.. My stomach would be in knots driving such a rig.. Good luck to you and Carla for living on the edge..!
@RunawayRoses
@RunawayRoses 4 года назад
Hi Happy Camper, I agree a dually will support the load and be much safer having an additional two tires in the back. You made all good points that I agree with except after using the Timbrens they actually do help support the load and sway significantly. Having hauled a camper with and without them there is a huge difference. There are a lot of people hauling truck campers on SRW and they do ok however I may end up going back to a dually again sometime. A dually is just not the best daily driver for me and my job.
