Let's try this again. My "Rio HD" cover got immediately blocked. I filed a dispute which would normally free up the video until the content owner responded, but RU-vid has a new policy of keeping disputed videos blocked for the first 48 hours regardless. So, if you are interested, look for that to be freed up sometime Monday afternoon. One reasons I was irked about the video being blocked was because of a video that I wrote about in the description. Check it out if you like, but wait to comment about it on the Rio video when it gets sprung - • Learn with RU-vid: TJ...
The song is the title track off of the "Feels So Good" album by Chuck Mangione which came out in 1977!!! and featured Charles Meeks on bass. I was in the 7th grade when this came out and I must have heard it a thousand times when I was a kid. I'm playing along with the mercifully shortened version from the movie, "Let's Go To Prison". The album cut was 9:43. When I was practicing the song I'd often wonder what would be happening in the scene where this song was used. I believe I had to tune the bass a touch sharp to get in tune with it.
This was the first song I learned when I got this bass a month or so ago. It is a 1983 Aria Pro II SB-Elite 1. It was not the exact bass that I was looking for, but the seller offered it to me for a very reasonable price. I had let a couple of other basses get away and I did not want to miss out on another one, so I grabbed it. The bass behind me is an SB-700 (the bass I was really looking for) that came up for sale on Reverb (for an unbelievable price) the very day that I received this bass, so I did what needed to be done🤑. Jason, who sold me the bass that I am playing, is a bit of an Aria expert which was a plus both before and after the sale. At one time he had a great Aria related blog that he’s ignored a bit, but said he intends to start giving it a bit of attention since interest in these basses has risen in recent years. Here’s a link to that blog - ariabasses.blog... There’s a wealth of information in it. This bass is a bit more of what I’d describe as a “blender” which means that it sits nicely in the mix and blends well with the other instruments. While this is a good thing it is not normally what I look for in a bass. I prefer my basses to stick out a bit more. That being said, for a blender, I really do love the bass. It oozes quality.
Since this bass is essentially the negative version of Cliff Burton's "Black and Gold" Aria bass, I had an elaborate April Fools Day video planned where I was going to hint at doing a Metallica song with it and then Rick-Roll you with this song... but I'm lazy.
I hope everyone is well and coping with the Corona Virus situation. I know some people think we are overreacting and some people think we are not reacting enough. Hopefully, it will pass quickly. The impositions it has created for me are minor and, while I’m sure I could withstand a dose of the virus, I know and love a few people who I know could not, my Mother being one of them. Please be smart, stay safe, and remain healthy.
With the Arias, I feel as though I've nearly reached the end of my bass collecting adventure and have been moving, ever so slowly, closer to making a series of videos on the basses. In fact, I hired a local photographer to photograph all the basses so I would have a nice record of the entire collection before I begin moving some on. Unfortunately, she cancelled out yesterday afternoon (not quite at the last minute, but close enough) saying, "In light of the recent health scares, unfortunately, I will have to cancel tomorrow's session." I can understand taking precautions, but I thought this was a little extreme. I was not going to argue with her. I'm not sure if I will reschedule with her or take the photos myself. The main reason I was willing to hire someone was for their lighting. Good lighting is very important. I could purchase a few diffused lighting fixtures for less than I was going to pay her, so I need to think about it. I used to have a whole setup back when I was doing the collaboration videos - lights, green screen, stands... but I loaned everything to the nice young fellow who was editing our videos and he took off with everything. Never expected that.
