FeiyuTech Scorp Mini: My Honest Review About the Best Gimbal for Beginners 

I have to review based on what it is not what it could be. It's up to the manufacturer to then make decisions about they can fix and what they can't. You can't underplay flaws because there's a chance that it could be fixed by a firmware update. That would potentially be misleading people into a false sense of hope.

Just a little segue - just got the Scorp Mini, since I liked the performance and form factor, and I trust in your reviews. :) About the problems that you mentioned: - Plasticky: yes, a lot. Is my 3rd Feiyu gimbal, and the other look much more solid. - Balancing: just have problems with the roll axis, that keeps returning to center. Had the same problem with the G6Max and the A1000; don't know if it is a thing with gimbals with back 45 degrees angled arm, did not had this problem with the first Crane M. But yes, just did the auto calibration, and was rock solid. - Plate: the screw comes separated in a little plastic bag in the box, odd choice but it is there. Is an Arca plate, and the tab on the front is to attach a lens support, that comes in the cable box - and from other posts about the Scopr line, looks like it helsp a lot with the balancing, still have to test. Is a short plate though, a longer plate like you used will be needed with frontal heavy setups; - On / off button: yes, BAD position. Requires a long press to turn on, but it really could be pressed inside a bag. But (kinda) good news - the last firmware update makes the gimbal go in sleep mode in 5 seconds when the roll axis is locked, than it could help the issue (but a single tap cancel sleep mode, hence it could not be effective). But yes, it is STABLE. Much more than the G6Max. Less horizontal drift too. And the top handle helps not only with the underslung mode, but in "normal" mode you could use both hands, helping a lot with fatigue. And the possibility to use this gimbal with the Feiyu focus motor makes it even more compelling. Thanks again for the review.

One more hint: if you mount your camera to the quick release plate by sliding it to the most right position (as it is suggested in the manual), then you can remove and attach the camera again without re-balancing!

Pc remote issues is a Sony hardware issues. It is the same issues with dji and zhiyun. It is a Sony design issue.

​@@CC-gt3ro Yeah but it would nice if Zhyjun could solve bluetooth remote control functionality, probably with a firmware update on the gimbal RS3 mini does already bluetooth remote control

BTW, I would try attaching a small piece of rubber pad or something around the power button to protect it from unwanted trigger. Yeah it comes with a small wall around it to do this work, but not high enough I think. Hope this helps.

Yes you can. Its not ideal but you absolutely can.

Absolutely spot on. I purchased as an early backer a month out in order to take it on vacation. The thing took 4 months. On top of that I saw it on ebay as refurbished cheaper than the early bird price. I think when they released the gimbals to content craters it helps boost the image and steered ppl to back the project. No one in their right mind in 2022 would think it would take months to arrive. Mine took about 5 efing months to arrive. Probably won't use kickstartwr again for that reason though.

If you’re considering the Ronin or the Weebill then those two are much better options than the scorp mini. I wouldn’t consider the scorp in the same category as those gimbals.

May I know if the reason for the Scorp Mini being not in the same category as the other two gimbals due to the size and max payload of the gimbal? Or just overall capabilities wise? And have you tried the original Scorp from Feiyutech which is slightly bigger and has a similar payload capacity as the weebill s? Love to hear your thoughts!:-) sorry for spamming so many questions at once😅🙏

@@jefftayproduction the main reason is that the scorp mini is more of a consumer/beginner gimbal and not suitable if you’re going to be using it any kind of pro setting. If you’re considering the weebil or the ronin then im assuming you want something less consumer. Its mostly down to the usability, the lack of removable batteries and also the kind of cameras you can balance on it. Its designed for much smaller cameras than what the other two are. I haven’t tried the original Scorp yet.

@@Sondercreative thank you so much for your replies, I just got the Scorp mini for my xt3 for some casual videography. May I know have you tried connecting the xt3 to the gimbal using the wires provided? I have checked the camera compatibility table for Scorp mini and it stated that to connect xt3, the 2.5mm wire have to be used, so does it mean that I will have to buy a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter as there isn't any 2.5mm port on the xt3. @@pentcovechronicles5271 sorry me neither at the moment. I saw some being sold on ebay a few weeks ago but I couldn't see anymore when I searched today. They're a popular gimbal so I guess you'd have to search periodically.

If I'm reviewing something I avoid reading the instructions because part of what makes a good product is how intuitive it is. If I have to read instructions to use a product then the manufacturer failed in that area.

@@Sondercreative I agree that most good products are intuitive, but others sometimes just need a little more effort on our part. I just think scrounging for parts from another manufacturer's gimbal, before actually looking at the instructions or watching a tutorial on the Feiyu Tech site, is a bit amateurish, poor design or not. It may provide entertainment to your dedicated followers, but you hold yourself out to be a professional. So, I guess I just expected more. In my humble opinion.

@@Sondercreative not gimbal, trip is very expensive. Gimbal should work to help record this trip, however - gimbal broke down 😒

Thank you for watching. I generally prefer smaller lighter setups so I'd probably end up buying something like the Weebill or a Feiyu gimbal if they made something similar. My main gimbal is currently the Ronin SC and it's almost ideal except it's slightly on the larger side.
